The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge, with a closed vertical clearance of 65ft – reduced to 57ft via this maintenance, crosses the Cape Fear south of downtown Wilmington. Unless piggy-backing on a 4hr opening, sailing vessels needing 65ft will be unable to access downtown dockage or marinas.
Cape Fear River – US 17 Cape Fear Memorial Bridge – Bridge will be maintained in the closed-to-navigation position and will require a four hour advanced notice to open from 12:01 a.m. on June 15, 2018, to 5 p.m. on November 30, 2018, for maintenance. A work platform will be attached underneath the movable span and will reduce the vertical clearance to 57ft in the closed position and 127ft in the open position. Vessels able to pass through the bridge in the closed position may do so at any time. The bridge will not be able to open for emergencies and there is no immediate alternate route for vessels unable to pass through the bridge in the closed position.
