      Staging vessels and equipment will be moored in the the commercial anchorage south of the Waterway’s path through Charleston Harbor requiring regular crossings of the Waterway as materials are moved from dredging sites further upstream in the Cooper River.

      SOUTH CAROLINA – CHARLESTON HARBOR – COOPER RIVER: Dredge Operations
      Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Company have begun mobilization activities in the Charleston Lower Harbor. Operations will occur 24 hours per day – 7 days per week until approximately July 25, 2019. Equipment is being staged dockside in Shipyard Creek and in Commercial Anchorage B. The Mechanical Dredge GL 58 will commence dredging in Shoal 6 (Drum Island Reach) of the Charleston Lower Harbor May 6, 2019. The dredge will work approximately 6 days before moving to Shoal 5 (Myers Bend), Shoal 2 (Lower Town Creek Reach), then Shoal 10 (Daniel Island Reach). Tug NAHOKU will tow scows GL 63 & GL 65 and place the dredged material in the (ODMDS). Tug CAPTAIN DANN will tend the dredge and operate as a backup to the NAHOKU for towing scows. The crew transfer vessel SAGINAW RIVER will transport crew and personnel daily from Great Lakes Dredge Field Office dock in Shipyard Creek located at 32° 49’ 55”N, 79° 56’ 31”W to the location of the Dredge at the time of transfer. Crew and material transfers will occur periodically between all equipment. The survey vessel PEARL RIVER will perform survey operations in all areas of dredging, placement areas, staging area and the ODMDS. Commercial Anchorage B located adjacent to the South Channel and James Island within Charleston Harbor will be utilized throughout the project for staging vessels and waterside equipment, pipeline and pontoons. The dredge will monitor VHF channels 13 and 16. IMPORTANT: All material placement/disposal locations are currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION!
