This cantankerous aging railway bridge in the heart of downtown Jacksonville requires constant upkeep and has plagued boaters with its numerous maintenance lockdowns and its closed vertical clearance of 5ft (!!) severely restricting river activities on the popular St. Johns.

FLORIDA – ST JOHNS RIVER – FLORIDA EAST COAST RAILWAY – RAIL BRIDGE: Bridge Repairs
Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) is authorized to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operation regulation 33 CFR 117.325(b) that governs the FEC St. Johns River Railroad Bridge across the St. Johns River, mile 24.9, at Jacksonville, Florida. Under this temporary deviation, the FEC St. Johns River RR Bridge is authorized to remain in the closed to navigation position between the hours of 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the following days:
– April 24, 25, 28 and 29, 2020
– May 8, 9, 12, 13, 29 and 30, 2020
– June 2, 3, 12, 13, 16 and 17, 2020
This deviation is necessary for the maintenance to the main trunnion and link pin bearings. Vessels able to pass without an opening may do so at any time. During non-working hours the bridge will operate in accordance with 33 CFR 117.325(b). The drawbridge shall return to its regular operating schedule, 33 CFR 117.325(b), at the end of the designated time period. We are approving this request under the provisions of 33 CFR 117.35.
