This operation extends immediately south and west of Beaufort Inlet channel.

NC – SEACOAST – CAPE LOOKOUT TO NEW RIVER – BEAUFORT INLET – OPERATIONS HAZARDOUS TO VESSELS
From March 6 through March 15, 2019, USCGC MAPLE and NASA will be conducting in water tests off Beaufort Inlet Channel. The operational area begins 1.5 nautical miles west of Beaufort Inlet Channel Lighted Whistle Buoy BM (LLNRs 720/29328) and extends approximately 6 nautical miles further west and begins 4.5 nautical miles south of Atlantic Beach, North Carolina and extends approximately 3.5 nautical miles further south. MAPLE will be restricted in ability to maneuver and the testing will present additional navigation hazards, which could be difficult for passing traffic to see. Vessels should stay 1000 yards from MAPLE while it is within the operational area and flying “ball diamond ball” day shapes. MAPLE will conduct regular “Securite” broadcasts on scene and monitor VHF FM Channel 16 and 13 for vessels requesting to approach within 1000 yards.
The testing will occur within the operational area bounded by the following points:
