[EXPIRED] LNM: UPDATE: Groundings at Lockwoods Folly Lighted Buoy 47 Missing, Lockwoods Folly Inlet, NC, AICW Statute Mile 321
The intersection of the Waterway and Lockwoods Folly has been a Problem Stretch for years and requires almost annual dredging. The missing ICW buoy is stationed on the southside of the channel in the heart of the intersection. And our thanks to Hank Pomeranz for the update and survey below.
SEC NC BNM 137-18
NORTH CAROLINA – MYRTLE GROVE SOUND TO LITTLE RIVER (CHART 11537)
CAPE FEAR RIVER- LITTLE RIVER LIGHTED BUOY 47 (LLNR 40225 [33°55.2964N / 078°14.0893W, 33.921606 / -78.234822]) REPORTED MISSING.
And this from Hank Pomeranz of Carolina Yacht Care
At Lockwoods Folly Inlet / AICW crossing – AICW G47 is missing and R46A does not exist where shown on most nautical charts. Has been reported to the USCG. The shoal in the middle of the channel still exists. It is imperative that skippers follow the red marks around up towards the sea wall for deep water. Boats are going aground – perhaps mistakenly believing that absence of the mark indicates the channel is clear. No word on when the mark will be replaced. Suggest post along with the attached graphic if possible.
Thanks
Hank
