MSIB 5-20 Waccamaw River Flooding – Socastee, SC

There have been reports of high water and flooding near Socastee, S.C. The flooding is a result of the cresting of the Waccamaw River in this area. This high water leaves near-by residential areas susceptible to damage by vessels transiting the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW) at high speeds.

Please be reminded that each operator, mariner, and/or boater is responsible for his or her vessel’s wake and any damage or personal injury it may cause. Operators, mariners, and/or boaters are urged to use discretion when assessing their vessels’ speed while transiting the AIWW between Highway 501 and Bucksport, S.C., during this high water event, so as to avoid causing any damage or personal injury.

This MSIB can be viewed at https://homeport.uscg.mil/port-directory/charleston. For questions or concerns regarding this MSIB, please contact Sector Charleston Waterways Management Division at (843) 740-3184 or the Sector’s 24-hour Command Center at (843) 740-7050.
