As the first inlet into NC waters south of the Chesapeake, Oregon Inlet is very tempting to southbound offshore cruisers. HOWEVER, Oregon Inlet is notorious for shoaling, keeping the USCG busy relocating ATONs. Even with these added ATONs and recent dredging, Cruisers Net still recommends attempting navigation ONLY with shoal draft and good local knowledge.

OREGON INLET LIGHTED BUOY 6A (NO LLNR) IS NOW ESTABLISHED IN POSITION 35-47-41.619N, 075-31-56.110W (35°47.6936N / 075°31.9352W, 35.794894 / -75.532253) .
OREGON INLET LIGHTED BUOY 8 (NO LLNR) IS NOW ESTABLISHED IN POSITION 35-47-18.751N, 075-31-59.509W (35°47.3125N / 075°31.9918W, 35.788542 / -75.533197) .
OREGON INLET LIGHTED BUOY 9 (NO LLNR) IS NOW ESTABLISHED IN POSITION 35-47-19.482N, 075-31-56.091W (35°47.3247N / 075°31.9348W, 35.788745 / -75.532247) .
