This cantankerous aging railway bridge in the heart of downtown Jacksonville requires constant upkeep and has plagued boaters with its numerous maintenance lockdowns and its closed vertical clearance of 5ft (!!) severely restricting river activities on the St. Johns, a popular AICW side trip, especially in the Fall.
FLORIDA – ST. JOHNS RIVER – FEC ST JOHNS RIVER (ACOSTA) BRIDGE: Bridge Repairs / Temporary Deviation / Bridge Closure
Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) is authorized to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operation regulation, 33 CFR 117.325(b) that governs the FEC St Johns River (Acosta) Railroad Bridge across the St Johns River, mile 24.9 at Jacksonville, FL. Under this temporary deviation, the FEC St Johns River Railroad Bridge need not open from 8:30 a.m. on Monday September 9, 2024, until 6:30 p.m. on Friday September 13, 2024, and from 8:30 a.m. on Monday September 23, 2024, until 6:30 p.m. on Friday September 27, 2024. At all other times, the bridge will operate per its normal operating regulation. Mariners are advised to seek alternative transit opportunities.
