This maintenance of the I-64 High Rise Bascule Bridge will delay few, if any, Waterway cruisers, but mariners should still observe caution in the vicinity. With a CLOSED vertical clearance of 65ft, the lift bridge crosses the Waterway at Statute Mile 7.1.

Mile 7.1, Elizabeth River Southern Branch, Chesapeake, VA
Mariners are advised that an engineering firm, on behalf of Virginia Department of Transportation, will be performing maintenance at I-64 High Rise Bridge over Elizabeth River Southern Branch, mile 7.1, in Chesapeake, VA. The maintenance will be conducted from December 30, 2016 to August 17, 2017; Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Repair and rehabilitation of the bridge will occur. A barge and work boats will be in and around the vicinity of the bridge. Maintenance personnel, equipment and vessels will relocate from the navigable channel, upon request. Work vessels may be reached on VHF-FM channel 13. The project foreman can be reached at (804) 520-9766. Mariners should notify the work foreman no less than one hour prior to navigating through the area and should use caution when transiting the area.
