Spending a bit of time at Cricket Cove marina. Dock Master, Capt Bill and the staff are pure examples of outstanding South Carolina hospitality.
        Fuel prices are great.
Snookies restaurant above the marina offices is a real treat!

I have stayed at Cricket Cove in 2003, 2005, 2011 and most recently 6-8-2013. Tropical Storm Andrea had just passed through the area and winds were a good 20 knots out of the S. Arriving at Cricket Cove at low tide 3:30 PM, Siskiwit grounded approximately 15′ off the fuel dock. We thew a line to Brian and asked him to simply cleat us off as we’d wait for half tide. My depth sounder showed 5.9′ at that moment. High tide that evening was 8.9. This was a first for Cricket Cove and they report they will be dredging in the fall of 2013. Its a great marina, good food, friendly folks, cheap diesel and due to the inconvenience offered a discount on the face dock. Not a big deal, but when one calls in advance and providing that we are 6′ draft, there should be greater awareness of expressing the conditions one is to find upon arrival.

Just wanted to let the loopers know about the best fuel price we have seen in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina! Cricket Cove Marina at Little River, SC 29566, is selling diesel at $3.80 per gallon, including taxes! We just fueled up the boat and saved $$$ here! If you are cruising north this spring or heading south in the fall, check out this marina’s prices! Bill Cramer is the manager and his # is: 843-249-7169. Great restaurant at the marina too!

Made a quick stop here for gas before leaving South Carolina heading North on ICW. Very friendly staff and the best gas/fuel prices along the SC ICW. Last stop before you get into North Carolina’s high prices. They are trying to keep boating affortable given the high energy cost we are experiencing. They should be patronized for this fact alone.

I have stopped and stayed at many marinas in my over fifty years of boating on the East Coast, and I can categorically state that I have not found a better-run, cleaner, or more pleasant place to keep “The Lady T”, a Trojan Tri-Cabin trawler, than Cricket Cove Marina. I’m sure there must be comparable marinas somewhere, but I haven’t haven’t found one yet that combines secure docking, attention to detail, and the pleasant and accommodating staff, that I found at this place. it is a gem !

Both LKM [Lightkeepers Marina] and MBYC are very good stops. I favor Light Keepers mostly because I am a member there. But there are really good folks at both places. James Blanton is the dock master at LKM. He is always accommodating for transients and renters. Ask him about monthly rentals. We have some great pricing this summer. The Officers Club at MBYC has a very nice informal food. Good cruisers talk going on there all the time. Clarks, right next door is more upscale and is really good also. LKM also has pump out available. Pools at both places. West Marine about 3 miles away. Food shopping about 2 miles. Very laid back nice stop over whichever you choose.

We stayed at LKs in April 2013. We were blown away by the friendliness and hospitality of James and the locals. James arranged an appointment when my cat needed a vet, plus dropped me off and picked me up. The marina was cute, clean and you won’t beat the price. We draw 6’9″ and had absolutely no problem getting in.

Floating docks, climate controlled bathrooms, showers and laundry facilities. On site pool. 1 1/2 mile boardwalk around the harbor. Friendly and welcoming dock master, James and assistant Bob. Two restaurants within the harbor. Clarks (formerly Umbertos) and Jug Handle Inn of the South (formerly the Officers Club.) Waffle House, Dunkin Donuts and Sunnyside Grill within walking distance.

We have kept our boat at Lightkeepers Marina, Little River, SC many times. Coquina Harbor, it’s basically the North Myrtle Beach area. http://www.lightkeepersmarina.com/
Floating docks, quiet and secure with great rates, phone James the Dockmaster for their best rates. Phone 843 249 8660. Tell them the Aussies told you to call. We’re here at the moment on our boat and plan on staying until mid January, maybe longer.

I have a condo at Coquina Harbor. Depths have been good since the dredging of the harbor was completed. I have a shallow draft boat, but I asked the owner of a 6.5 foot draft sailboat that stays here how he found depths throughout the harbor. He said he had seen nothing less that 7.5 feet at low tide. This inquiry was made 9/04/09. I came through the entrance at high tide on 9/05/09 and my depth sounder indicated 14.5 feet. When I really want to reward myself, I have pork chop at Umburto’s.

7-5-17. Left Harbor Village at 6:15am. Beautiful day all day. Changed plans when realize get nto Southport way too early and changed to MBYC at mm346. Fueled up– 80 gal/stb. And 62.2 in port -total 141.6. With Boat US dockage was $34!!! (my boat is 34″) $5 for electricity- 30 amp. Gene was as competent as cute helping us dock and take on fuel. Have a pass to get in the club’s grill- taco and tequila sunrises on very special! Shower secure, clean and even the soap dispensers had soap. Wifi strong on A-10. Easy to take dog out. No current and maybe a foot tide fall. Docks in great shape. We are here for only 1 night but may be a very good place for several days since so much going on around here. We will be back – most definitely.

Arrived around 3:45 and melted into the dock. Been a long day, lots of slow going with a lot of no wakes. And it has been hot. Stopped at Osprey for fuel, best prices in the area, then continued to Myrtle Beach for the night. To hot to cook so we eat at Clarks, its right next to the marina. Every thing was excellent.
Had a problem with the electric “Y”, had to get one ordered from West Marine. Had two days to enjoy the area, we rented a car and did just that. Found some fresh shrimp and did them on the Barbee. Then were able to find Fishy Fishy, had a fantastic meal. Great stay.

We just spent two weeks at MBYC (our second visit) and had a great time. At $1.00 a foot (Boat US discount), you simply can’t beat this place. The pool is immaculate, the restaurant has great food and good music, and the social life is terrific. Saw old friends and met several new friends. Highly recommend stopping here if you never have.

Sitting in Myrtle Beach Yacht Club as I write….. now our favorite stop in Myrtle unless we need supplies. It has a nice Laundry with computers, swimming pool and is set back off the intracoastal. 2 good restaurants on site and Little River is the actual location but only about 6 miles North of Barefoot.
2 night stay was $87.50 for a 40 footer with 50 amp service….friendly resident boaters.

We just stopped here for two nights to visit and catch up with some other cruising friends we hadn’t seen in a while. What a great spot this is! The staff and the boaters are all very friendly, beautiful pool, nice laundry room with plenty of machines, a healthy book exchange and a computer for boaters to use. The docks have combination security gates. We weren’t here long enough to check out the exercise area but plan to stop back next year on our way north and possibly stay awhile. The area’s seafood restaurant choices are endless but you do need transportation. We ate at Captain Poo’s last night. I’m usually up for trying new and unusual dishes so I had the cheeseburger with a friend egg on top. I’d never heard of it before but it was fantastic!!

MBYC is in Little River, not Myrtle Beach. We stayed here on our way north last spring, and then again last week (13 September). Both times we have been very pleased. The staff is knowledgable and very helpful. They drove us over to West Marine late in the day before it closed. Facilities are A-1. Good value. There is a nice walkway for exercise that goes all around Coquina Harbor. People seem to be very friendly. We would definitely go again.

SweetPea is now located at Myrtle Beach Yacht club mile marker 345.9 and and will remain here till after the Thanksgiving holiday. Though we have just arrived I can say this the people here are very friendly and the Officers Club (restaurant) is excellent ! Those boaters heading south if you land here for a night or extended stay stop in and see us. The entrance of the harbour is marked by a lighthouse.

As we are departing Myrtle Beach we hear chatter on the VHF regarding the number of boats in the Calabash Creek anchorage. This was to be our destination but it was already crowded so we opted to stay at the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club.
The tide was low and water depths into the harbor basin were very skinny. Darn near heart stopping at one point. Even at the dock we were very close to sitting on the bottom (our draft 4.5″). We were helpfully refueled and docked by the staff.
We were both a little tired so instead of fixing dinner, we decided to go to the Officer’s Club Restaurant. We were pleasently surprised. The atmosphere and food were great. We both had excellent meals. We had crab stuffed mushrooms, steak, and shrimp scampi,. We even decided to have desert and enjoyed a monster “Brownie Tower” with coffee. After that fabulous meal we walked about the facility a bit. This place really surprised us. A great place to stop.

Very pleased with MBYC. Loved the rate. We are Sea Tow but they still gave us the Tow Boat rate. Excellant Pecan Pie at the Officer’s Club Restaurant. The rental car was from an outside contractor and it was a bit over the hill (that is kind), but the club facilities were excellant. It is also a very protected marina, all inside a basin.

        Subject: MYBC Officers’ Club
Cruising News: Not wanting to get back out in the Myrtle Beach Bikers Rally, we went to the Marina’s Officers’ Club restaurant (actually a private club), and we were very pleased. This was a 4.5 star dining experience. I have had bad luck with gumbo this trip so this time I asked for a taste. I was brought a condiment bowl on a doilied saucer with the gumbo, rice and garnish. It was Seafood Creole (almost a Cioppino). But it was very good creole!
After excellent shrimp with Thai Chili sauce for an appetizer, when the creole dinner serving arrived, it was literally beautiful. A cookbook cover photo. My wife’s stuffed flounder was every bit as well prepared and presented. Ryan, waiter, did a great job.
The Marina has been an excellent place to keep the boat for a week while we took care of land side must dos. We strongly recommend this secure, clean, well run establishment.
I need to add that MYBC’s capital investment in new head and shower facilities paid off. The new arrangement is excellent.

Actually stayed at the HarbourGate marina next door, but next time will stay at Anchor Marina because of the great service and congeniality. Had some water pump problems that I couldn’t seem to fix by myself, so on a Saturday morning two mechanics from Anchor Marine came over to help. It was a vexing but simple problem and it took them more than a couple hours to solve. They were VERY reasonable on the fee and were really helpful. Highly recommend.

If you need help on the waterway, talk to “Guy” at Anchor marina. He was absolutely super with us and helped us problem solve possible reasons for breaking alternator belts on on engine. He is very professional, very reasonable, and extremely easy to work with. Highly recommended.

Harbourgate has been our home away from home for the last two years. The service is superb, the water is fresh to brackish, and the location is ideal. One of the best features is their harbour cam that allows a boat owner to see his boat even when he is away.

We stopped here last year. Our dog loves marinas where they are given treats in the office, and Suzi exceeded his expectations (she was very helpful and friendly to us as well)! This is a very easy in and out stop, with fuel and pumpout. All floating docks. We did eat at the adjacent Filet’s Restaurant, and it was very nice as well.

Harbourgate marina is in semi-fresh water at MM 347. The basin is an excellent hurricane hole and if you pay in advance, Susie will only charge you $9/ft [monthly rate]. First class docks, etc. Also you can watch your boat on their harbor cam while you are gone. MB airport has connections to all major cities. Restaurants, West Marine, etc close by.

we stopped there initially to fuel up and get a pump-out, but just before we got there, an alternator belt broke. The wonderful staff there helped us get into the dock with the current, and were wonderful in helping us get a mechanic from nearby Anchor Marina. The staff at this marina are wonderful. They were extremely friendly, helpful and did everything they could to be helpful to us. WE ended up staying night and will certainly return to this wonderful facility.

We decided to stay here for a week so I have a few items to add.

The docks float so the tie-up is easy.

The kids (or visitors) can rent PWCs here at the marina and there is a boat that takes passengers on a dolphin watch and another takes passenges out fishing.

The marina still has no laundry and the nearest coin laundry requires a car.

The restaurant on the ICW is still closed but a Bar/Restaurant behind it opens at 4:00 pm Tuesday – Sunday. They have a band every night from 7:00 pm til 10:00 (later on weekends). The music is loud and if you want to sleep before 10:00, hatch up.

The beach is about a mile walk eastbound on 11th ave which originates directly across from the marina. Access areas are a short walk either way when you reach Ocean Dr.

Route 17 runs parallel to the ICW here but you can cross it at the walk light at 11th Ave. For dining options, Carrabas and Dirty Dick’s Crab House is a short walk and on the same side as Rt 17. Across Rt 17 and southbound is an ATM, Food Lion, CVS, and Chippers Grill. A longer walk south is Fridays and BW3. Also across Rt 17 and further south is Home Depot and Walmart. If your nails are looking rough from weighing anchor, Happy Nails is next to BW3. Northbound on Rt 17 is an Applebees and an Outback.

Rhett and Matt will serve you well here at Dock Holidays.

I have stayed there and at Barefoot Landing by the outlet stores. Face dock every time. I’ve never had a problem with wakes, it’s a no wake zone. If jet skis bother you, travel from here to Little River in winter or heavy rain. The ICW here is polluted with them [jet skis] and for most of the operators, this is the first time they have ever driven a boat.

Plenty of restaurants and “beach” type stores within walking distance. The restrooms are public, but clean.

Just keep in mind, it’s a “dock”, not a “marina. No pool, no showers, no captain’s lounge, etc.

Arrived here about 1500 and were greeted by Mark the Dockmaster. He expertly helped us tie up our dock lines and adjust fenders. Price is $1.50 per foot and that includes electric and WiFi which makes it a great deal. The welcome pack includes info on the shopping area and a great discount coupon to T-Bones. The docks are in great shape and very easy to approach from the waterway.
