      Gulfport Municipal Marina, A CRUISERS NET SPONSOR, and the City of Gulfport always have a full calendar of events for all ages. The marina and harbor, found on the northern shores of Boca Ciega Bay, are easily accessible from the Western Florida ICW, just north of Tampa Bay.

      Mayor Henderson will open the day’s activities at 8:30 a.m. at the entrance of Lincoln Cemetery, 600 58th Street South.
       
      Make it a Day ON, Not a Day Off! There are many ways you can participate in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. You can join a project already planned in your community; you can develop your own project with family, friends, and neighbors; or you can work for an organization that mobilizes volunteers.

      Activities taking place within the City of Gulfport on Saturday, January 19
       
      Gulfport residents, businesses and civic organizations will join Americans across the U.S. stepping up as volunteers and will leverage the strength of our community through a variety of community service-oriented projects on Saturday, January 19, 2019.

      The American Red Cross in partnership with Gulfport Neighbors and Gulfport Fire and Rescue will be sharing fire safety information and installing smoke detectors in helping to save lives.
       
      Volunteer teams will go door to door throughout a Gulfport neighborhood installing smoke alarms in homes while educating the community on fire safety. Did you know seven people die every day from a home fire? Most of these individuals did not have a working smoke alarm. 
       
      Consider helping the Red Cross, on January19th from 9:00AM to 1:00PM, reach their goal of reducing the number of fire related deaths and injuries by 25%. Breakfast will be provided by Dunkin Donuts and lunch will be provided by Smokin J’s Barbque. 
       
      Volunteers 16 and up are welcome to participate.
       
      Closed toed shoes are recommended.
       
      Smoke Alarms Save Lives!
       
      Parking: Meet at Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church 5800 15th Ave S, Gulfport, FL 33707 at 9AM, after the opening ceremonies at Lincoln Cemetery. Please park on the south side of the parking lot of Holy Name Church.
       
       
      Councilmember Paul Ray is leading a project, with the assistance of the Gulfport Neighbors, to rebuild a small porch for an elderly resident. If you would like to help or have any questions, please contact Councilmember Ray atpray@mygulfport.us or by phone at 727-698-9847.
      Visit Jax In & Out Neighborhood Cafe while smelling the fine aroma of fresh brewed coffee along with casual conversation. This event is hosted by Community Resource Officer Zack Mills. The chat and coffee will occur on Saturday, January 19th between 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 4928 Gulfport Blvd. S. As always during Coffee with a Cop, there is plenty of socializing and meeting old and new friends.

      Visit the Gulfport Community Garden, 5125 Preston Ave. S., as they provide expert garden advice, samples of fresh garden produce and fruit tree seedlings from 9 – 11 a.m. If you have any questions, please contact George Zarillo at 845-242-7452. 
       
       
       
      Participate in making a community peace chain in honor of MLK Day at the Gulfport Public Library on Saturday, January 19th between 10 a.m. -2 p.m. The Library will display our community art piece in the children’s area as a symbol of peace and community spirit.
