Elizabeth River – Gilmerton Bridge Operations Restored
Mariners are advised that the highway vertical-lift bridge – Route 13 (Gilmerton Bridge) across the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River, mile 5.80, at Chesapeake, VA, has restored normal operation using generators.
A temporary closure period will be required later this week to conduct permanent repairs, date and time to be determined. Any closures will be announced by MSIB and VHF broadcasts.
Until permanent repairs are completed, mariners should use caution when transiting the area.
Reports of any issues with the drawbridge or its navigation lighting should be made to the Coast Guard Sector Virginia Command Center at (757) 483-8567.
