In addition, the Deep Point Marina is convenient to Southport's shopping, restaurants and historic district, and offers easy ocean access.

      March 5, 2020 Coastal Consumer Showcase @ St. James Community Center from 4pm-7pm

      The Coastal Consumer Showcase, “Highlighting the Best Products & Services” in the Southport Oak Island area is held annually the first Thursday in March (3/5/2020) from 4pm-7pm at the St. James Community Center. Admission is free.  There are free samples, giveaways, Pick-A-Prize Auction and register for the $100 cash drawing.  The Showcase is organized by the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce for the public.Contact:

      April 18, 2020 Oak Island Lighthouse Run @ Middleton Park Extension, Oak Island 

      Packet Pickup & Onsite Registration: 

      April 17th  – 5:00pm-8:30pm @ NC Baptist Assembly @ Fort Caswell, 100 Caswell Beach Drive,  Caswell Beach.  

      April 18th – 6:00am-7:00am Middleton Park Extension, corner of SE 46th Street & Dolphin Drive, Oak Island

      Half Marathon, 10k, 5k & 1 Mile Run: April 18th  – Middleton Park Extension, corner of SE 46th Street & Dolphin Drive, Oak Island

      Oak Island Lighthouse Half Marathon Run and 5k, 10k and 1 Mile Run or Walk is a fun and enjoyable event for all fitness levels.  The run courses showcase the best scenery on the North Carolina Coast — with salt marshes, the Atlantic Ocean, beautiful beaches, foot bridges and a lighthouse as a cheerleader. A race worthy of taking a weekend trip with your friends.   The festivities start on Friday, April 17th  from 5pm-8:30pm at Packet Pickup & Onsite Registration at the NC Baptist Assembly at Fort Caswell.   Come out and help create our beautiful finish line with Chalk Art at the Start on Saturday, April 18th from 6am-7am then participate in a group stretch and warm up.  There will be finisher awards for the Half, 10k & 5k as well Pelican SnoBalls and beer for the participants. The overall and age group awards are prints by renowned coastal artist Ricky Evans of The Ricky Evans Gallery in Southport.  Half Marathon begins at 7:30am, 10k at 8:00am, 5k at 8:15am and 1 Mile at 8:20am on Saturday, April 18th  at the Middleton Park Extension in Oak Island.  An event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Dosher Memorial Hospital.  Check the run website for additional details and link to register www.lighthouse10k.com

      July 2nd – 4th,  2020 North Carolina 4th of July Festival @ Downtown Southport 

      The N.C. 4th of July Festival is held annually in the City of Southport July 2nd – 4th and Beach Day on July 1st in the Town of Oak Island.   The City of Southport first celebrated our nation’s independence in 1792 as the “Festival of Free Men”.  Over the years, the name of the festival changed until 1972, when the festival incorporated as the N.C. 4th of July Festival. Today, the festival celebrates our freedom as it remembers the sacrifices with some fun thrown into the mix. This year will be no exception.  Join the over 50,000 people who attend the N.C. 4th of July Festival each year.  Festival events include: Naturalization Ceremony, Flag Raising Ceremony, Flag Retirement Ceremony, Veteran’s Recognition Ceremony, Over 100 Arts & Craft Booths, Food Vendors, Parade, Live Stage Entertainment, Fireworks, Franklin Square Art Gallery’s National Art Show, Shine & Show Classic Car Show, Voter Registration, Old Jail Tours, Used Book Sale, Lions Club Boat Raffle Drawing, Cape Fear Yacht Club’s Flotilla, St. Philip Episcopal Chapel of the Cross Open, Children’s Entertainment, Children’s Games, Pancake Breakfast, and Firefighters Competition.   Prior to the Festival:  Beach Day Events – July 1st (sandcastle building, horseshoe, volleyball and shag contests plus evening concert and fireworks).

      October 1st – 3rd , 2020 U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament @ Southport Marina, Southport

      The U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament began over 40 years ago, when a small group of community leaders met and decided that they needed an event to showcase the great fall fishing in the Southport-Oak Island area. Today, the U.S. Open King Mackerel Tournament attracts 400+ boats annually and is one of the largest kingfish tournaments on the east coast. The tournament has a guaranteed prize structure and in 2019, paid out over $317,000 in cash with 496 boats fishing the tournament.  Captain Robert Carr and the crew of Nauti-Edition III took home over $42,000 for their 36.60 pound king. Entry Fee Charged. Music, food and beverages. Public Welcome. An event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Southport Marina, Garmin and BEMC.

      Southport-Oak Island Area Restaurant Week – October 19th – 25th, 2020

      Foodies everywhere, make sure you have marked your calendar for the 3rd Annual Southport-Oak Island Area Restaurant Week to be held October 19th thru October 25th in 2020.  This week will give diners in our area an extra incentive to go out because participating restaurants will be offering at least ONE of these options that week:

      –       Pre-fixed dining options including multiple courses – offered at one price point

      Restaurant Weeks are extremely successful all over North Carolina.  Chefs tend to enjoy the week because it allows them to be creative and come up with special menus to test.

      Youth Business Fair – November 21st

      YOU’RE NEVER TOO YOUNG TO START A BUSINESS!!!

      What is a Youth Business Fair?  Applicants create a product or service, develop the brand, and then market and sell it at the event. They run the booths without adult assistance ensuring they practice skills necessary for professional and personal growth such as creative and critical thinking, math and communication skills.

      The Southport-Oak Island Youth Business Fair will be held on Saturday, November 21st from 10:00 am – 1:00pm in Southport City Gym, 211 N. Atlantic Avenue, Southport.   Participant application deadline is 9/21/2020.   There is no fee for the youth to participate. There will be two Workshops for the participants.

      November 28, 2020 Shop Small Saturday & Shop Small Holiday Open House Weekend @ Area Retailers

      The holidays are a perfect time to remind visitors and residents to support the small business in their communities.  American Express began a nationwide movement to support these businesses during Shop Small Saturday on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Our local small businesses have unique gift items and provide excellent customer service.  The Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce encourages you to support small business year-round. Chamber Member businesses in the Southport-Oak Island Area will host a Shop Small Holiday Open House in conjunction with Small Business Saturday on November 28th. A Christmas Gift Guide will be posted on the Chamber’s website at www.southport-oakisland.com in November with details.

      December 5, 2020 Christmas by the Sea Parade @ Oak Island Drive, Oak Island @ 2pm

      Christmas is perhaps the best time of year to visit the North Carolina coast. The average air temperature is 59.4 degrees and the sun is warm. In a celebration of this wonderful weather and the holidays, the Chamber organizes the Christmas by the Sea Parade, the first Saturday in December on Oak Island.  The Christmas by the Sea Parade steps off on Saturday, December 5, 2020 at 2pm on the 2.4-mile parade route from Oak Island Town Hall, traveling Oak Island Drive to McGlamery Street.  The parade showcases the businesses and organizations in our community.  The hometown feel of the parade makes it a favorite event of locals, second homeowners and visitors.  A float decorating contest will be held.  An event of the Southport-Oak Island Area Chamber of Commerce.
