      Set in beautiful Camden Count, NC, the Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center provides free dockage for cruisers' on the Dismal Swamp AICW Alternate Route

      The Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center Docks and information are provided at the Dismal Swamp Canal Welcome Center, A CRUISERS NET SPONSOR and a NC DOT Rest Area facility, located adjacent to the Dismal Swamp State Park, offering trails, exhibits and ongoing programs in Camden County, NC.

      Greetings!

      Here comes spring! We can’t wait for the warmer weather. Here is what we have coming up at the park for the month of March. I’ve also included a save-the-date for our upcoming special events Statewide Star Party (Fri 4/12) and 16th Annual Paddle for the Border (Sat 5/4 – registration still open, but it usually fills fast!).

      Spring Hike
      Sat, 03/02/2019 – 11:00am
      Meet at Visitor Center
      Join the ranger for a guided hike along the Supplejack Trail. This footpath meanders through the Swamp forest near the Canal and features many different types of common vegetation, along with some old liquor stills! Learn about the Swamp’s wildlife and colorful past while enjoying early spring weather. Don’t forget to log your miles for your NC 100 Mile Challenge.
      **All ages are welcome, but trail is not recommended for strollers. There are opportunities to loop back to the Visitor Center at 0.25 and 0.5 miles, if you do not wish to hike the full distance.**

      10K Run with the Ranger
      Sat, 03/09/2019 – 10:00am
      Meet at Visitor Center
      Join the ranger for a 10K run along the park trails to the water control structures. Water and snacks will be provided after. All ages and ability are welcome to participate! Don’t forget to log your distance for your 100-Mile Challenge!

      Denizens of the Dismal
      Sat, 03/16/2019 – 11:00am
      Meet in Auditorium
      Join the ranger for a short indoor talk about the many fascinating animals that call the Swamp home. You will be able to see mounts, skulls, and tracks. There will also be touchable pelts.

      Spring Wagon Ride (Morning)
      Every Sun, 03/24/2019 through 05/26/2019- 11:00am
      Meet at Visitor Center
      Hop aboard the Dismal Swamp Express, an open-air wagon, for a narrated ride along Canal Road. See the park’s liquor still and lighter boat replicas and maybe even some interesting snakes, birds, or other wildlife! The ride lasts 45 minutes to an hour and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If the weather is questionable or you have a large group, please call the office at 252-771-6593 in advance. Insect repellent is recommended. Bring snacks and water if you want them.

      SNAKES! are the educational theme in North Carolina State Parks in 2019. Come Scale Back Your Fear and learn about these fascinating and beneficial animals! New bandannas will be out to celebrate our scaly friends.

      Statewide Star Party in the Swamp
      Fri, 04/12/2019 – 6:00pm to 9:30pm
      Join us for a Star Party in the Swamp! This year, we are excited to announce that the Back Bay Amateur Astronomers will be out to support our event and provide additional equipment and viewing expertise!
      Please call the office and reserve your space in advance to help us plan.
      Rain date Sat April 13, same time- if sky conditions/rain are unfavorable both nights, we will consider an indoor, daytime program on Sunday.

      16th Annual Paddle for the Border 2019
      Sat, 05/04/2019 – 8:00am
      Join us and our co-sponsors for the annual Paddle for the Border! Spend this Saturday morning paddling along 7.5 miles of the beatiful Dismal Swamp Canal from South Mills, NC to Chesapeake, VA. Lunch is served at the conclusion of the paddle. Registration is now open and usually fills up fast! Visit http://www.cityofchesapeake.net/paddle to sign up.
