[EXPIRED] LNM: RR Swing Bridge Closures, Jan 17-18, 22 and 24-25, AICW Alternate Route Mile 47.7
With a closed vertical clearance of 3ft, the Chesapeake and Albemarle Rail Road bridge crosses the Dismal Swamp Canal route north of Elizabeth City, NC. With current weather conditions and the recent frozen over Dismal Swamp Canal, be prepared for delays in these repairs.
NC – INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY NORFOLK TO ALBEMARLE SOUND VIA NORTH LANDING RIVER OR DISMAL SWAMP CANAL
Mariners are advised that an engineering firm, on behalf of the Chesapeake and Albemarle Rail Road, will be performing maintenance at the railroad swing bridge, across Pasquotank River, at mile 47.7, at Camden, NC. The maintenance requires the removal of the counterweights and gears, which will render the bridge inoperable on the following days. The bridge will remain in the closed-to-navigation position on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, through Thursday, January 18, 2018; and again Monday, January 22, 2018; and again Wednesday, January 24, 2018,
through Thursday, January 25, 2018. The bridge will remain in the closed-to-navigation position 24 hours a day for each of the five days listed. The railroad swing bridge has a vertical clearance of 3 feet above mean high water. Mariners should remain vigilant and use caution when transiting the area. Chart 12206 LNM 03/18
