      Local Treasure Coast Squadron
      Elects 2019 Officers   
       
      John E. Goebel, of Port St. Lucie, has been re-elected commander of St. Lucie River Power Squadron, also known as America’s Boating Club of Martin County.
       
      Also sworn in were the following squadron bridge officers: Robert Chaille, Port St. Lucie, executive officer; Paul A. Vallier, Stuart, educational officer; Rosalie M. Goebel, Port St. Lucie, administrative officer; Richard P. Pontynen, Stuart, secretary; and William E. Gelpke, Jensen Beach, treasurer.
       
      The installation was conducted at Miles Grant Country Club by District 8 Commander Janet L. Leh, of Vero Beach. America’s Boating Club of Martin County is one of 13 squadrons in District 8 encompassing southeastern Florida from Sebastian Inlet to Key West.
       
      The group is a unit of America’s Boating Club, formerly known as United States Power Squadrons (USPS), the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit organization providing safe boating education and skills enhancement training.
       
      WEEKDAY BOATING SAFETY COURSE FREES UP YOUR WEEKEND
       
      WHAT: ABC3 (America’s Boating Course, 3rd ed.)
      Presented by St. Lucie River Power Squadron, America’s Boating Club of Martin County Complete course includes“Rules of the Road,” chart reading, marlinspike, seamanship, piloting, and federal and state requirements. Course completion qualifies attendees for Florida Safe Boating ID Card. Many insurance companies offer discount after completed course.
       
      WHY: More reasons why a safe boating course is so important to Florida boaters:
      • In 2017, 41% of fatal accidents in Florida were falls overboard
      • In Florida, 90% of victims of fatal accidents were males
      • 75% of Floridians involved in fatal accidents were 36 years of age or older
       
      WHEN: Twice weekly, Mondays & Thursdays, March 11-28, 7-9 pm
       
      WHERE: St. Joseph Parish Life Center (Room 7 on far eastern side of campus) 1300 E. 10th Street, Stuart (Parking across from Parkway Drive on eastern side of campus)
       
      COST: $50, cash or check made payable to SLRPS
      Includes instruction and materials. Families may share materials – $10 fee for each additional family member
