      This 44ft sunken vessel is just to the west of the Waterway’s channel approaching Georgetown and the fixed Hwy 17 bridge. Ironically, the vessel appears to be in a charted obstruction area.

      Georgetown – Waccamaw River Entrance –

      Sector Charleston received a report of a sunk/partially submerged 44 foot vessel on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway in the vicinity of US 17 (Ocean Highway) Bridge. The vessel is approximately 20 yards north of the bridge in GPS position 33-22.05N 079-15.158W (33°22.0500N / 079°15.1580W, 33.367500 / -79.252633) . Two marine salvage airbags and a strobe light are attached to the vessel. Salvage efforts are expected to reconvene on Monday April 8, 2019.

      Vessel master reported hitting a submerged object in this area. A VHF Broadcast Notice to Mariners has been activated for the incident. All Mariners are urged to use caution while transiting the area.
