    • December OBX Park News: OBX holiday gift guide, Meet Your Ranger, and aviation celebration!

On November 30, we celebrated Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, and the results are in: In just 24 hours you helped us raise $1,500 for our OBX national parks!

On November 30, we celebrated Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving, and the results are in: In just 24 hours you helped us raise $1,500 for our OBX national parks! That is nearly double what you gave last year and we are so grateful for your support.

Our parks faced new challenges this year and we don’t see that trend changing anytime soon. Your generosity allows us to fund projects that create new ways for you to experience our parks, while also protecting the history, culture, and environment that are vital to our OBX community.

If you missed Giving Tuesday, don’t worry; you can still make your end of year gift today to help make exciting new projects possible like a paved, multi-use path at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse, an artist in residence program, the Aviation Trail Through Time – and more.

Here are a few ways you can help our parks today to become more resilient and protect them for generations to come:

Thank you for showing love for our parks,

      Meet Your Ranger: Carmen Pantaleo
Our Meet Your Ranger series introduces you to the many amazing people who support our Outer Banks national parks every day!

We’d like you introduce you to Carmen Pantaleo, Special Parks Uses Coordinator for all three of our OBX national parks. None of his days are ever the same – Carmen works with individuals, families, contractors, utility providers, film crews and others tp provide permits for activities like weddings, sporting events, construction projects, filming for television and the big screen, and memorial services.

In his free time, Carmen enjoys walking and shelling on our Outer Banks beaches with his wife, Patty, and their dog, Wesley, and reading the late Gen. Colin Powell’s books.

Our OBX Forever 2021 Gift Guide is here!

      Celebrate the 118th Anniversary
      of the First Flight
On Friday, December 17th, we’ll be celebrating the 118th anniversary of the first flight!

If you can’t join us in person, you can still experience the celebration from wherever you are – tune in to our Facebook page where we’ll be joined by our friends at the National Aviation Heritage Area to jointly livestream the ceremonies being held at Wright Brothers National Memorial and Dayton Aviation National Historical Park.

The event hosted by the First Flight Society at Wright Brothers National Memorial will begin at 9:00 a.m. (EST), and the celebration at Dayton Aviation National Historical Park will begin at 10:00 a.m. (EST).

Highlights of this year’s event include the First Flight Society’s induction of Dr. Sally K. Ride, the first American woman in space, into the honorary Dr. Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine, and Col. Gail Seymour Halverson, a World War II veteran U.S. Air Force pilot famously known as the “Candy Bomber,” making a special trip to the Outer Banks for the celebration at the age of 101!

A Sneak Peek Just for You…

In celebration of the anniversary of the first flight, we’ve got an exciting new project launching on Monday!

We’re putting the Ohio/North Carolina rivalry to rest with a new way for you to experience the story of the Wright Brothers. We’ve been working with an amazing group of aviation partners to bring you the Wright Route.

Here is a sneak peek before we announce it to the public…enjoy!
