In July, the NMMA launched the Waterways Access Initiative, a new campaign that will advance policies that protect public water access, modernize recreation infrastructure, support conservation, and strengthen the made-in-America recreational boating industry.

As Congress returns from August recess, it has less than 20 legislative days left before the November Election. Some of our key access priorities are still pending before this Congress, and over the next four weeks, we are asking you to join us in letting your member of Congress know they need to act on these priorities now!

Few experiences are more quintessentially American than spending a day on the water with family. That’s why it’s important to help more families achieve the dream of boat ownership.

Congress recently made interest on qualifying loans for American-made automobiles tax deductible—but American-made boats were left out. The bipartisan Boat Loan Interest Deduction Act would correct that disparity by allowing taxpayers to deduct up to $10,000 annually in interest on loans for qualifying new recreational boats assembled in the United States.

Recreational marine manufacturing is uniquely American and primarily consists of small businesses. These companies support skilled jobs, invest in local communities, and help make American-made boats sought after around the world.

The bipartisan legislation, H.R. 9537, was recently introduced by Representatives Rudy Yakym (R-IN) and Don Davis (D-NC), and more cosponsors in both parties are now needed to build momentum and move the legislation forward.

Write your member of Congress and ask them to cosponsor H.R. 9537, the Boat Loan Interest Deduction Act of 2026.
