    • [EXPIRED] New Orleans Locks

Excellent information about the various locks and canals in the New Orleans region.

My home is on the west side of the Mississippi River and whenever I have to cross the river in the New Orleans to get to Lake Pontchartrain I must use either the Harvey Canal Locks or Algiers Locks, and Industrial Canal Locks.  The operators at the Industrial Canal Locks generally are very helpful and toss out lines for us to secure our boats while locking out.  The problem is mostly with the Harvey Canal and Algiers, not the people who are always very friendly, but with the construction of the locks.  These locks are designed for large barges and tug boats but are very difficult for small boats.  The hand holes that we use to secure our boats are very far apart both vertically and horizontally making it very difficult to safely tie off.  I am sure that if enough of us were to contact the Corps of Engineers and our representatives something could be put in place to make it easier for small boats while locking out.  If anyone of you have had the same concerns and can help with some type of plan of action please contact me.
