    • [EXPIRED] New Marina to Be Built in Gulf Shores, Alabama AND Increased Water Patrols

Always glad to hear about new marinas about to be built. And, as Captain Bob notes below, it looks like there will be increased surveillance of the ICW in this same region. Sometimes there is a good reason for no-wake zones, and one of those good reasons is to protect boats docked at marinas. So,maybe the increased patrols Bob describes below are not such a bad thing!

The 10PM news in Pensacola, announced that a construction company had applied for permits for 3400 slips on the Gulf Coast Waterway as part of a mega developement in Gulf Shores Alabama.  This appears to be between Homeport (LuLu's @ hwy 59) and the "The Wharf of Alabama" (by the  Foley Beach Expressway).
The same report noted the the city of Gulf Shores Alabama will create a special marine police force to patrol the ICW in this area!  So watch out–I know that boats are not slowing down at "The Wharf  " a 200 slip marina with 750 condos–and I would not be surprised to see special water police in this area shortly.
This existing marina is right on the GCICW, with no protection, and I expect that the new marina will be similar.
