    • [EXPIRED] Updated Report on Government Cut Inlet – Apalachicola, Florida

We have already had a number of reports on this "Northern Gulf" page concerning Government Cut Inlet, south of Apalachicola, Florida. Now, we hear from Captain James that he had no trouble, nor did he find any shallow depths during his passage of this inlet. I guess the local's advice of "hug the greens" is the way to go!

We left Apalachicola Saturday in 1 to 2 ft seas and headed for the Government Cut on our way to Tarpon Spring. You hear all sorts of things about the cut being shallow.  I draw 3.8 ft. and had 14 ft. under the skeg. I even whacked my depth sounder thinking it had went haywire. I have been thru the cut 4 times before and it has never been less than 6 ft. total depth. All the locals say to hug the Green and you will be "OK".
