    • [EXPIRED] Ocean Springs, Mississippi Marina is OPEN

Glad to hear that there at least one functioning marina off the ICW's trek through Mississippi Sound. For those who don't know, Ocean Springs lies just east of Biloxi, near the eastern foot of the Highway 90 twin bridges.

I was surprised to read in Passagemaker magazine that a Captain from Baton Rouge reported that there were virtually no functioning marinas between Pensacola and New Orleans. This is not true. Several cruising guides list the Ocean Springs Harbor which is owned and operated by Jackson County, Mississippi. This harbor was the first to have restored power after hurricane Katrina. Power to all slips was restored within thirty days after Katrina (August 29, 2005). This harbor is very cruiser friendly. We have thirty amp electrical service at all slips, water and pump out facilities. The harbor office is still in a temporary trailer and currently has no bath facilities or laundry. However plans are to start on the new harbor office in January 2008. The new office will include bath and laundry facilities. Fuel (gas and diesel) is available at the bait shop at the entrance to the harbor. We are within walking distance to the Shearwater Pottery, Walter Anderson Museum and historic downtown Ocean Springs. We are also within walking distance of grocery stores and numerous restaurants. We have 174 slips and transient slips are almost always available, although it is best to call ahead. The bridge to Biloxi is scheduled to open on November 1, 2007 and then it will be a five minute ride to Biloxi and the casinos. The transient fees in the harbor are $10.00 per night and include water, electricity and pump out. We are still the only harbor on the Mississippi Sound with electricity as of this date, although the other local harbors in the area are again open, excluding Gulfport which is scheduled in late 2008. The harbor office can be contacted at the below number or on my cell phone at 228-217-6670.
