I have not stayed in Marina Jacks in a long time but, their service is unchanged. When you radio for a slip they come meet you and help you tie up. In the morning you will find a newspaper in your cockpit. The only problem I had was a Fountain powerboat that was next to me was incorrectly tied and threatened to crash into my boat when the winds shifted. I jumped on the boat and fixed his lines. Never saw the owner or any of the marina staff there at all to correct or comment on the issue. I guess he was a just another blow boater.

We were part of the Cape Coral Cruise Club recent visit to Marina Jacks and this was our third visit this year by boat. we are always impressed with this operation, the staff, the facilities, the restaurants. one of our favorite stops along with Florida west coast.

Stayed at Mooring Field 2 nights. Great location and beautiful spot. There are some issues that need to be addressed. There are only a couple of no wake signs installed be Marina Jack which manages the Field owned by the City. Fishing and pleasure boats cruise through the Field regularly; there is no policing or security although there is a Fish and Wildlife boat at the marina. One of the tour boats operating out of the marina–Le Barge–takes a sanctioned shortcut through the field. Folks at marina seem to feel there is not much they can do. It’s a shame!

The next to last stop on our trip was the always popular Marina Jacks in downtown Sarasota. After breakfast by the cruise leaders, several members hopped on the shuttle to visit the Ringling Circus and Art Museum and the John Ringling Mansion. Others opted for the great shops and restaurants in downtown Sarasota.

I stayed at Marina Jack’s a couple of weeks ago heading up the gulf coast in a
sailboat. I loved the place. Yes, the bar is a bit loud, but only while we were in the cockpit. Down below, no problem. The showers/bathroom were as good as any I’ve ever seen, and the security is great. A short walk to all of the shopping or eating out you might want.
If I move my boat from the east coast to the west, that’s where I’ll head…

Marina Jacks has moorings available for $275 a month. They have a specific dock for dinks.

I love the mooring field, dink over to O’Learys Tiki Bar and walk to Marina Jacks from there. Short walk to downtown and lots to do there. Marina Jacks has the best showers anywhere, if they only had a pool it would be perfect.

After much controversy in Sarasota, Marina Jacks opened its mooring ball field about a year ago. We recently used the field. The marina management, staff, and facilities are first rate. It is located right downtown with numerous restaurants nearby and a Whole Foods within easy walking distance. The only drawback is that out of the 35 balls, only 3 are set aside for transients. They do take reservations but you will have to move on if your ball is reserved before you want to leave. The daily rate is $20. You can still anchor outside of the field boundaries but it is a lengthy ride to the dinghy dock.

Actually this restaurant and all the great restaurants in downtown Sarasota are about a 10 minute walk from Marina Jacks (0.6 mile) so no taxi is necessary. Enjoy Barnacle Bills, Floribbean, Patricks, El Greco, Etc.

We had just started exploring the Gulf Coast, the first fuel stop being Marina Jacks. Our experience was so pleasant that we decided to extend our stay (with 6 kids in tow this time). The dock manager (Sam), and deck hand who assisted us (Keith), were so welcoming that it was almost disconcerting to us New Yorker’s – being generally accustomed to a more “reserved” attitude at local marinas, yc’s and fuel docks. If you’re in the Sarasota area and looking for a very family friendly, spotlessly clean, & welcoming environment – Marina Jack’s is the place.

We stopped here in early May 2012. The staff are anxious to help, floating docks are roomy, laundry and shower facilities clean,a free newspaper is at your slip daily, and free DIY pumpout is available at the slip. We loved being able to take the courtesy van to the Ringling Museums. Only gripe is the charge for WiFi – almost every marina now has FREE WiFi.

Stayed at Marina Jacks marina one day due to storm, early April 2011. Marina staff and facilities were wonderful. Later going back south, anchored in Sarasota Bay off Marina Jacks for 2 days. Free pumpout by friendly nice young man. Just call Marina Jacks pumpout on CH 16. He even put fresh water in tank after pumping out and then pumped out again.

It was a last minute decision to tie up at Marina Jack. We hailed the dockmaster on the way in and they were quick to assign a slip and were there to take our lines as we approached. First class operation. It is busy there with the restaurant and bar patrons adjacent to the transient dock. The live band plays into the evening (this was on a weekend).

This was the fourth night in our trip from Ft. Lauderdale to the Gulf Coast and it was another great marina. The docks extremely well maintained, the staff helpful and the onsite services excellent. Again, we did not get to stay long but by report they have a local shuttle that is very helpful to resupply and get you around town a little. We are planning a trip back to explore the west coast of Florida hopfully next year and Marina Jack will most likely be our base of operations. Forgot to mention that the onsite dining is excellent. There are several restraunts on site and I forget which one we ate at, but it was excellent and by report all the others are as well.

        Hi Claiborne,
Marina Jacks was one of the nicest marinas that we have visited.
They have approximately 30 transient docks primarily located on the outside of D dock. This is a long floating dock with 40ft finger slips. It is well protected from the westerly winds, but with 10 to 15 knots of blow, there can be some current running the length of D dock, making docking a little interesting! Paulette did docking practice and did very well!
The docks are in impeccable condition with all of the normal electrical, water and cable hookups. The dockhands were exceptional helpful. There is a security gate with an access code to the transient area. We discovered the laundry area with a direct veiw over the water…a delightful way to handle one of boaters’ chores. Each morning, the Sarasota newspaper mysteriously appeared on our aft deck…a nice touch.
Access to downtown Sarasota could not have been better. It’s a five minute walk, of which three minutes are waiting for the traffic lights to turn in your favor. Once downtown, foodies like us can walk five minutes further to a very large and well-stocked Whole Foods plus a number of very interesting restaurants.
For those of us with dogs, the marina is situated right next to the nicest park we have ever visited. What can be nicer than walking your dog through pathways along the waterfront!
Marina Jacks now has a courtesy van. This service was just added during our five day stay, so “the rules” of where and when it goes are still being developed. However, I was able to go to both WestMarine and Publix all in one trip.
Dockage was $2.25 a foot plus electric which seems on par for a top quality marina on Florida’s West Coast.
I hope that this is helpful

        Hi all,
We had spent 3 wonderful days in Sarasota,Fl upon recommendations from other turtles. Would just like to say thank-you for the great advice. We stayed at Marina Jacks, excellent marina, secure, clean, boater friendly and very accesible to town. We took the trolley to St. Armand’s circle (lovely), ate in Sarasota twice at Two Senoritas and Patricks, (excellent). We toured the Ringling Bros. Museum and all we can say is next time we’ll use the whole day (wow).Had a fantastic time and would recommend it as a must stop!!

Sarasota is a great stop, the marina is top notch, but u can anchor out and dinghy in. The town is awsome and i would not pass it up…lots of great dinning and dancing.
