Very attentive and efficient bridge tender.
Traveling under 5/23/16 mid day.
We have never had a problem, passed through today, 4/7/2015, courteous bridge tender. I too here some boaters being demanding with bridge tenders and lock masters. Being courteous to them goes a long way!

Opens on Demand. Closures may be required every 15 minutes when vessel traffic is heavy.
NOTE: Because of heavy traffic to two schools within a half-mile of the bridge, the bridge will not be able to turn between 7:45AM and 8:15AM on school days. All other times is “on demand” unless traffic becomes heavy, as on a weekend, then bridge closures may be required to every 15 minutes to accommodate road traffic.

We have been across the Socastee Swing Bridge by car. It carries a 4-lane road that is very busy with local traffic during the day. Be patient with the bridge tenders here, because they have a job that make them unpopular with boaters AND THE LOCAL PEOPLE who use that bridge every day.
Any updates as to opening schedule ?
This bridge is a pain, you never know what to expect. They built a new high rise bridge next to it so I don’t understand why they cannot abide to there on demand status.

The swing bridge being closed for 5 1/2 hours during the day is seriously impeding traffic flow along the Beaufort (SC) ICW and was extremely detrimental to our (Lady’s Island Marina) transient business during the 2015 spring migration. I wonder if whoever made the decision [to curtail bridge openings] considered the impact on transient boat traffic thru Beaufort. Did they put it out for discussion before making the decision?
