I went with my kayak and a Bosch laser range finder. I verified that the center span (between the fenders) matches the clearance gauge boards to within 3". I also measured the span just west of the center span and verified there is an additional 24" if you pass close to the east columns (within 12'). The boards (both north and southbound agree as of March 2025) indicated 55.5' (+-3"). I measured a minimum of exactly 55'8" in center and 57'10" under west span. The difference is due to the center span having a thicker beam across the span than the others. At the time, the tide was at +1.7' above the Navionics chart datum (MLW?) I was 1 hour from high tide.
