Outstanding photo! I cannot detect a ripple in the water. The mirror images of the houses in the water are remarkable.
Good work!
just like it is!

Manitou, John Kennedy's 62-foot Sparkman & Stephens yawl
Win Jones
Chesapeake Bay
2008
As one of his first official acts, incoming president Kennedy selected Manitou, the 62-foot Sparkman & Stephens yawl designed in 1936 to replace the 92-foot powerboat that was then the Presidential yacht. She had been donated in 1955 to the Coast Guard Academy. She was brought to the Chesapeake Bay and equipped with communication equipment so the President would never be out of touch with his office (or the Kremlin) while on board.
Kennedy sailed Manitou often on the Bay and in New England. Kennedy was so fond of the boat that he deemed her the ‘floating Whitehouse.’ She was named after Manitou Passage in Lake Michigan. ‘Manitou’ means ‘Spirit of the Water.’

I bought Sheila a new camera a couple of months ago. We found out your site when we were in Elizabeth City on Oct 22 at the Rose Buddys reception. We have been full time cruising for the last 2 years, 20,000 miles so far, first sailing from Cape town, South Africa then to Maine and back a couple of times. On our way south again. Haven’t decided how far. – Chris Bartlett
Beautiful subject and phtotgraphy! Have a safe journey anc come back to E.C. From a Rose Buddy.
Great shot. Brings back such pleasant memories of great hospitality and a really nice town. Elizabeth City’s the best!

We three sailed into Marathon Harbor after being hit by llightning and a hurricane our second day out of Galveston. Nothing on the 50′ Hinkley worked. No lights, engine, stove, centerboard, etc. It was all electrical and a trip to hell. So this shot of the peaceful safe haven God promised us brings me back to the Grace we experienced. This trip is documented in “the “First Arc of the Great Circle” on Amazon
Beautiful pic!
