Forbes Bay Anchorage – Claiborne’s Review

The only anchorage worthy of consideration by cruising-size craft on the Pasquotank River south of Elizabeth City is found on the broad stream’s southwestern banks northwest of marker #7. Here, Forbes Bay offers plenty of swinging room and 6- to 8-foot depths. There is reasonably good shelter from southwestern and western winds and fair protection from northwestern and southeastern breezes. Strong blows from the north or northeast call for another strategy. Please note that this is not an appropriate foul weather hidey hole.
Along the bay’s northwestern banks, set amidst moderate residential development, is a large brick structure which once served as a hospital.
