Dismal Swamp Canal – Continued Closure Until May 5

Notice to Navigation Interests from the USACE Norfolk District regarding the continued closure of the Dismal Swamp Canal to maritime travel due to ongoing construction of the new Deep Creek Bridge. Closure is expected to last until May 5, 2025.
Visitors to Lake Drummond will be able to access the Dismal Swamp Canal via the South Mills Locks in South Mills, North Carolina or from the various boat ramps along the canal in NC and VA.
Vessels transiting the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway must use the Albemarle & Chesapeake Canal as an alternate route.
Keeping fingers crossed, construction will wrap up early and waterway can reopen sooner! We look forward to seeing our wonderful boating family & community very soon along the Dismal Swamp Canal.
