LNM: Key West Safety Zone, Sunset Run and Paddleboard Race, July 20
FLORIDA – KEY WEST: Safety Zone
The 35th Annual Hemingway 5K Sunset Run and Paddleboard Race event will be held on July 20, 2024, on the waters surrounding Key West, FL.
This event will consist of approximately 60 competitors completing a 2-mile racecourse starting at Higgs Beach in Key West, Florida, moves east
to the Edward B. Knight Pier, west back toward the seawall extending from Higgs Beach Memorial Pier, east returning to Edward B Knight Pier,
and west returning back to Higgs Beach. Participants will complete the course twice.
The safety zone listed in 33 CFR 165.786 Table 7.1 will be enforced from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on July 20, 2024. The safety zone encompasses
the waters in and around the racecourse.
During the enforcement period, no person or vessel may enter, transit through, anchor, or remain within the safety zone without permission from
the COTP or his designated representative.
A succession of not less than 5 short whistle or horn blasts from a patrol vessel will be the signal for any non-event participating vessel to take
immediate steps to avoid collision. Also, the display of a red distress flare from a patrol vessel will be a signal for any and all vessels, including
event participants inside the regulated area, to stop immediately.
Mariners are advised to abide by all Navigation Rules and proceed with caution in the vicinity of the course and event participants. For more
