After going under the Seven Mile Bridge to the bay side we only had to travel about 5 miles in calm conditions until we were abeam of the Fanny Keys, where we then turned to starboard and headed between them. A short time later we docked at Harbour Cay Club. The slip that we are in is a little shallow, but the view from our dock is “awesome!” It’s a small place with a great group of people. We have discovered an unbelievable “secret paradise” here in marathon called Harbour Cay Club. They are a private club owned by the boat/slip owners but they rent any absent owner slips to [cruisers] etc. by the week or longer. The facilities and grounds are excellent. every slip is a lay along with W-E-Cable TV & pumpout. Laundromat, clubhouse, bike rack, tiki hut and the most fantastic unobstructed sunsets you can imagine.Very quiet and relaxing Short walk to many restaurants & bars (mm47.5) super markets and K-mart about 2 miles, easy bike ride.Very friendly and helpful liveaboard boat/slip owners.they usually have slips for rent. When we arrived we found 6 other loopers here. we like it so well we have decided to stay an extra week! Call Dock Captain ED SKINNER 410-570-5089 for reservations. Jeff & Cheri Conniff aboard Annie Lee III.
We’ve been at Harbour Cay Club in Marathon for 4 days and feel like part of the community. This is a great location for those who like to be away from commercial marinas. It’s quiet and close to shopping. Publix,Kmart, Winn Dixie ,West Marine, Home Depot are within 2 miles. Daffy Dan’s Dollar store is less then a mile away. There are no hills so walking and biking to the stores and restaurants is easy. Free self serve pump-outs are at each slip. The club house, has a laundry room (2w2d, an ironing station and bins for your detergent – yeah no more lugging) and 2 unisex bathrooms with showers). All areas are well kept. Several owners are not using their slips this winter. They would be happy to rent slips to Loopers at a very competitive fee. Cats are allowed – Sorry no dogs. I asked Ed Skinner, fleet captain, to provide the info below.
Harbour Cay Club is a private, non-commercial, marina located bayside in Marathon, Florida Keys. We are a not-for-profit corporation and our members have the option of renting their assigned dock space. This year we have several members not in attendance so we have some space available on a monthly and weekly basis. Please refer to our website at harbourcayclub.org for additional information and send me an email to fleetcaptain@harbourcayclub.org. Leave me a phone number and I will be glad to call and answer any questions. Thank You Very Much, Ed Skinner HCC Fleet Captain
We have no association with Harbour Cay Club . We’re just sharing info on a great place to stay. Andrew, Sallyann and Tut (Cats Rule, Dogs Drool) Looping Aboard: Freedom – American Tug 34
On Marathon, we loved the Marathon Cay Club because we had a slip at the end of the dock where you can watch the sun go down into the Atlantic every evening from your aft deck. It’s the first marina in from the ocean on the channel to Boot Key Harbor
Review of boat yard: did not stay in marina did have the boat pulled for minor repair out and back in the water in less than two hours as promised. Very professional would use again
We have stayed here several times and love it. The pool has the best view around and the people are friendly. Brought the boat down from Naples and booked a month and will go back and forth. I would recommend this marina highly.
Great Marina! We have pulled our trailerable Macgregor Sailboat from Atlanta to the Marathon Marina for the past 3 years. Each visit is a great one. The staff takes such good care of us, even though we are not a mega sailboat. Wifi works well throughout the marina. There is a great restaurant with wonderful food right on the premises. They have updated their pool to a lovely saltwater pool (no more blood shot eyes from chlorine). There are grocery stores, a West Marine, and plenty more restaurants, well within driving distance or a $5 taxi drive.
On our last visit we needed a haul out due to engine trouble. The crew operating the machinery were very professional. They took such great care of our boat and the rate was reasonable.
On our first visit to the Marina, my wife was getting ready to toss me a stern line when she fell into the cockpit of our boat and broke her foot. Judy from the office was such a help. She instructed us where we could get medical attention and offered to help in any way we needed.
For those who wish to attend a worship service on Sundays, there is a great church just down the road called Marathon Baptist Church. The Pastor is very caring and the congregation of locals are welcoming and warm hearted.
We continue to return knowing we will enjoy every day of our visit to this wonderful marina.
We stayed here a week-rate $613 with tax et all for a 40 ft cat. The staff was very friendly and fuel prices excellant. The residents are extremely friendly and the internet works well both at the dock and the captains lounge for non-wifi connection. Pump outs are tueday, wednesday, and thursday. The resteraunt is also excellent go for happy hour and appetizers(inexpensive). Would like to stay a month at another time(warning they book as far as a year in advance for a month dockage). Not as centrally located as the city marina, but with bikes, you can get anywhere.Publix(3 miles) and cabs are $5 for a trip on the island.
We brought Cabana to Marathon Marina and Boat Yard on 03/01/2010. We have made a monthly lease arrangement since we plan on using Marathon as our base for a month or so. The Marina is a bit run down but many repair and upkeep efforts are underway. The staff is very friendly, professional and helpful. The open views to the west come with a bit of vulnerability against west winds, so tenants have advised us to really secure the boat against strong western blows. There is a nice restaurant right on the premises, some kind of transportation (bikes in our case) is highly recommended to reach other restaurants or stores. My favorite is Marathon Marina. This is the first marina entering on Boot Key Channel. It is before the bridge. Best views of the sunset. Stayed here a couple of times. The bus to Key West stops at the end of the road. I have also used the bus to go to Boaters World, etc. Its only two stops but for $1 its cheaper than a taxi. Bus runs on a 1.5 hour schedule. We spent 11 days at the Marathon Marina at the entrance to Boot Key Harbor between 24 February and 5 March. The marina is pricey at $2.50 per foot and the monthly rate would have been a better arrangement for a stay of more than 10 days. The facilities are a bit run down and in need of some maintenance. For example, nearest power pedestal to our slip didn’t work…shower doors didn’t close…hole in the wall in one shower…rusty nails to hang towels and clothes on instead of clothes hooks…paper towel holders in heads went unfilled for a couple of days, etc. The showers, laundry, and heads were closed one day for plumbing problems and there was water backing up from a drain in the floor. We were told the parts for the water pump were back ordered. On the other hand, except for the one day, we didn’t have to wait in line for a shower like the folks on the moorings in Boot Key Harbor. There were no trash receptacles near the slips. Trash overflowed the one dumpster in the adjacent boatyard before it was picked up. The marina staff was very friendly and helpful…lent us two 30 amp power cords since the nearest working power pedestal was more than 50 feet away…had answers or a recommendation to most of our questions. Free, good quality coffee in the office was a nice plus every morning at eight. The unobstructed view to the west was appreciated and we enjoyed the benefits of the west wind and a personal “sunset celebration” each evening. We obtained fuel at the Panchos Fuel Dock. It is what it is, a fuel stop. It was fine, easy to dock and leave. Ron Hollander
Fueled and got water at both places. I liked Burdines, mostly because of the tattooed chick operating the fuel dock. George
When looking at Panchos from Burdines it seems that the remodeling work has been completed. There are a few boats in the slips but in general there is not much activity, at least not during the early November period. We’ll know more when we get back end of this month. Burdines is doing fine. All slips are taken. The Chiki Tiki seems busy, although in general we have noticed activities quieting down. The economy is no doubt taking its toll. For instance, last year Burdines and Ponchos were swamped with boats returning from the Ft. Lauderdale boat show. This year we saw one. A really big one. I am not sure that one big one makes up for the lack of many smaller ones Pam

Had a horrible experience at the Marina gas dock. They were unwilling to help a boater in distress. Even with easy information. They were rude and inconsistent with their verbal rules.

Burdine’s Marina in Marathon is nice, friendly people, and a great Tiki Bar/Restaurant. The reef just outside Marathon has mooring balls and is great snorkeling. Ken & Pat Goewey

We have spent 2 1/2 months in the City Marina. We were lucky to get a mooring right away although there are good places to anchor if the moorings are full when you arrive. The marina staff couldn’t be nicer and are very helpful. Laundry facilities are frequently very busy but it’s a good way to met fellow cruisers while waiting your turn at the 6 washers and 6 dryers (when all are working). There are plenty of activities like yoga, tennis, softball, crafts, games and music. Two large areas for dinghy parking are provided. It’s a mile walk to grocery shopping but West Marine has donated several shopping carts that you can take from the marina to the store and back for those larger shopping trips. We would definitely return here another year. Larry and Suzi
March 7, 2009 Web Cam: Boot Key Harbor Marathon, FL Keys by Charmaine Smith Ladd The Marathon City Marina has installed a web cam which pans Boot Key Harbor from east to west. Check it out. Awsome! An article is forthcoming on the newest improvements being made by the Marathon City Marina. The newest amenities include a new bath house, laundry facility with new machines operated by debit card. Even the landscape has changed at the Marathon City Marina. With the addition of a beautiful tikki hut and stone picnic tables placed in the large area immediately south of the Marina Office. It’s a great place to gather, watch the sunset, and just kick back and relax!
