Stayed over Christmas . Helpful staff, patient at directing me to a berth between the riprap and the pontoons, which I didn’t think could be the way in as it was so narrow. Never did get my iPad to hook up to the wifi, which the marina staff know is an issue for Apple products. They gave me a number for tech support, but of course on the afternoon of 24 December I never got a call back before leaving on the 27th. The Windows laptop did connect, but service was slow. Can’t believe their tech guys can’t figure it out.
Resort bar good for sundowners after a dip in the large pool and the hot tub.
Spent another month here (6/2011) as we try and do every year. John and his entire staff are welcoming and terrific at helping captains dock. Each slip holds ONE boat – no worries about hitting your slipmate! My husband waxes the hull each year during our stay. Close to all the action and super staff have made this our choice for over 10 years. K. Reilly
We go to Key West often since it is only a little more that 100 mile from here in Naples. We always stay at the Galleon Resort and Marina. It is very close to all the action on Duvall St., Mallory Square, etc. with many restaurants within easy walking distance, and several adjacent to the yacht basin. Mike
The Galleon Marina Dockage, Diesel, Gas, Restaurant & Bar, Pool, Rest Room, Showers, Gym, and Laundry for marina customers. Floating docks, all with a full-length finger peers. The Galleon is a time-share resort and marina customers have full use of the resort facilities. Like the other 3 privately owned marinas, the slips can be purchased “condo” style and leased out through the management company. Like Conch Harbor, the facility is secure at night. The docks at the Galleon stretch along the full length of the harbor’s breakwater thus, depending on the slip you are assigned, your walk from the boat to the shore could be long if you are lugging “boat stuff.” Current rates are $3.50/ft per day, or $60/ft. per month. All the best, Capt. Rich M/V Dancing Bear
Having spent the last 12 days weather bound by wind at the Galleon Marina in Key West, I think we qualify as fresh water conchs. If you have to be weather bound, there aren’t many better places! The dock hands at the Galleon are excellent at shoehorning large boats into small slips. Sometimes there is even room for fenders. Dock hands John, Fred, Susie, Heather and Mike have never met a stranger. They have unbelievable patience with even the inexperienced boater. They make the boat captain look like an old pro. The docks are all floating which makes for an easy exit from your boat. One should absolutely call for assistance when docking because they know all of the tricks for an easy docking experience. Don’t forget to ask for assistance when leaving because the wind and current can also present a challenge. One of our favorite places to spend the afternoon is the Schooner Wharf Bar. Michael McCloud performs most days and has a show not to be missed. His music is not exactly G rated, but gives you a good insight into the Key West lifestyle. An island cheeseburger is always welcome when accompanied by an adult beverage. Gary Riss M/V Far From Normal

R C Roberts- February 24, 2013 - 12:14 pm
I attended Fantasy Fest in October 2012 and pulled in A&B to fuel. I purchased 4K worth of fuel. I ask dock hand if I could load my tender while tied up since the wind was at over 20 KTS and he replied yes. The loading took around 30 minutes. Just as we were finishing the dock master showed up and told us we needed to get the f??k out of the fuel dock. There were no boats waiting to fuel. Needless to say I was not impressed with A&B and will never return. On a side note I kept a 55′ boat there for over a year a few years back and during FF had eaten at their restaurant. R C Roberts
Tina Turner said it best- “Your’re simply the best.” This describes A&B. Mark and his crew, plus the location make it so. Reservations most times are needed. Don’t miss it !! It’s worth the trip. Marsha & Bob M/V Threadbare
This past winter, we spent 5 weeks at A&B Marina in Key West Bight. It was wonderful, the staff, the location, and the price (for Key West in season). Staying at the Fleming mooring field only gives you good weather, not Key West and all its treasures. Most marinas are not first come first served but reservations well in advance. Tom Conrad
Absolutely Reservations Required..and don’t forget to eat at the AB Lobster House the food is to die for. And on a side note the VFW is a block away the cheapest drinking in Key West 2.00 mixed drinks and 1.00 beers. But beware the pool table is rigged.
The Commodore right next to A&B Lobster House is another excellent place to eat. They also have a cigar & wine room that overlooks the harbor. Also, “Damn Good Food” is close by and they deliver right to your boat. They have some of the best food on Key West and reasonably priced to boot. And note, the VFW has moved. They are no longer walking distance from Old Town Key West. They are located on Roosevelt over by the Key West Yacht Club. Duane Jenkins
I would highly recommend A&B Marina in the Key West bight. It is minutes by foot from Duvall Street & Mallory Square. We stayed 2 weeks there and hated to leave. Get your reservations in early. Most of the docks are transient but they fill up. Others will advise you on Marathon Jim & Judy Howenstine The Silver Foxes Mainship 400
A&B Marina Marina Dockage, Diesel, Gas, Rest Room, Showers, and Laundry for marina customers. Public restaurants, and a great martini bar at the top of the pier. One long floating pier with a single T-head at the end where the fuel dock resides. There are no finger peers between slips, so bow or stern mooring and egress is required. Slips are privately owned “condo style” and leased through the management company; there isn’t a secure gate at the top of the dock, only a rope barrier and a sign asking the public not to pass. Current rates are $3.00/ft per day, or $30/ft. per month. Availability is always the issue at this great marina.
We have stayed at Key West Bight Marina for three years in a row. Each we time we stay for about 5 or 6 months. The staff is great. The marina has great water and is close to downtown. We highly recommend this place.
KW Bight is a City marina and the staff must enforce the rules that are created by the City. We stay in KW for several months each year and always have found the Marina staff some of the best we encounter in our 1000 mile annual cruise. John McSwain
I wish to make you aware of the unfortunate experience I had in March at Key West Bright Marina. I reserved a slip for my Acadia 25 boat for two nights beginning on a Tuesday and planned to be there for both nights. My friend and I left Burnt Store Marina Monday AM heading for Marco Is. then onto KW Bright on Tuesday. When we got into the gulf Monday we found that the 4 to 6 foot waves were more then we could handle safely for the trip and the NOAA forecast was the same through Wednesday. As soon as we changed plans in late morning I called both Marco Is. and KW Bright Monday to advise that the conditions did not allow safe passage and we needed to cancel our reservation. When I made that called, both of the dock-masters at Marco Is. and KW Bright thanked me for calling and agreed that the conditions there were not safe for a 25 ft boat and assured me that I would be credited for my deposit. KW Brights advance reservation agreement states that they require 48 hours cancellation, my call was 36+ hours ahead. 48 hours would have been Sunday while we were still at Burnt Store Marina. Two weeks later, I noticed that my credit card still was showing the $88.69 reservation charge from KW Bright. I called them today to find out why the credit has not been issued. “YOUR CANCELLATION IS NOT WITHIN THE 48 HOUR TIME WINDOW THEREFORE WE CAN’T OFFER CREDIT TO YOUR CREDIT CARD”. The fact that the weather conditions were not safe does not matter “we’re not responsible”. They did try to offer a future credit should I wish to come in the next twelve months but being a snowbird and with other PGI cruise activities thats not a likely option. I wish to caution that ALL boaters should be aware of KW Brights unreasonable policy regardless of boater safety. We didn’t just change our plans at the last minute on a whim for another destination, if I had I would support the policy. THINK TWICE ABOUT KEY WEST BRIGHT. I’m really saddened by this experience as we were looking forward to our visit at KW. In all my cruising of the Great Lakes and here in SW FL this is the first bad experience I ever had when boater safety was the primary issue. Ralph Winkler
Key West Bight Marina City of Key West owned marina with Dockage, Diesel, Gas, Rest Rooms, Showers, and Laundry for marina customers. Four docking peers (A, C, D, and E … B dock is the commercial dock that holds the fuel dock, and the ferry to the Dry Tortugas. Full-length finger peers between slips on the A dock only. No finger peers on the other docks, so unless you get one of the very few “tie along-side” spots, you’d better bring a gangway. Key West Bight Maria controls the public dinghy dock for those visitors who choose to anchor out. Current rates are $6.00/day, $26.50 per week, $80.00 per month and a 13 ft maximum length for the dinghy. Current rates for slip dockage is $2.75/ft. per day or $44.00 /ft per month. There are higher rates during designated special events (Memorial Day, 4th of July, October Fantasy Fest, November Power Boat Races, Christmas/New Years, and KW Race Week in January.)
I stayed there earlier this month when windy weather kept us in port longer than planned. It is a good marina and a first rate staff. My only comment is it caters to the party crowd and that is not me. Nice pool at the foot of the docks, but don’t expect a quiet swim. They have a DJ playing loud music that was intrusive even inside our closed-up air conditioned boat halfway down the dock.and the pool area is packed with a singles bar atmosphere. If you like that this is the place to stay in Key West. However, if your style is more Jimmy Buffet than hip hop there are other places, even in busy Key West Bight that are a better fit for you. Brad Hines
Terrific marina, good staff. You can borrow a bike for free and washers/dryers are free as well. There is a little area with barbecue and chairs separate from Dante’s for marina guests only.
The only marina in Key West that I know of that is first come first serve is Conch Harbor marina and even they will take a reservation 3 months in advance. All the rest are reservation based and fill up fast in season. The end of October is Fantasy Fest and trying to find a marina right in KeyWest during that time will be a challenge. Duane Jenkins
Conch Harbor Marina Dockage, Diesel, Gas, Restaurant & Bar, Pool, Rest Room, Showers, and Laundry for marina customers. Fixed docks, most with a 12’ finger, a few with a full length finger peer. “Stern to” docking necessary so succumb to the over the bow pulpit two step dance. RIB inflatable “tug” can be arranged to help with maneuvering. Main peer is privately owned, slips are privately owned “condo style” and leased through the management company, there is a secure gate at the top of the dock that is locked at night, so your fishing gear, bicycles, etc are secure while you sleep. Current rates for boats under 65’ is $3.50/ft per day, or $60/ft. per month.
The location is fine, worth the 4 nm traipse around Fleming Key to get there if you cannot clear the 19-ft bridge. It’s equidistant between the old town to the west and the three supermarkets to the east – about 1 mi each way. There’s an excellent bus service right outside the marina with three buses to choose from – schedule at marina office – for $1 per ride. The negatives – the toilet for transients is open to the public and the two unisex showers are open at the top to the toilets with attendant smells and sound effects. Liveaboards and mooring field customers have their own facilities. My wife talked the marina office into giving us a swipe card for the former after supplying a graphic description of transient facilities for $1.90/ft. They also charge a $6.25/day “service charge” for electricity. When I said I wouldn’t plug in, they said I had to pay it anyway. I asked what the rationale was and they said they lose money on boats that have air conditioning and refrigeration and make up for it in this way. We have neither and I said I didn’t appreciate subsidizing those that do, especially since I buy ice from marinas so end up paying for my refrigeration and for others! The last marina we were at for three weeks was metered and for the 21 days I paid $5.85, or $.30 per day. Marinas need to install meters or determine what the power usage will be, and definitely allow clients to decline power. The marina has no gate and is near well-used public thoroughfares. A guard walks down the dock occasionally at night. I know of no problems but… Fair winds and following seas, Austin Whitten, s/y Discovery II
Garrison Bight City Marina Mooring Field located between Fleming Key and Sigbee Park has expanded to 100+ mooring balls at a monthly rate of $296 or daily at $16.75 w free weekly pump out that comes to your boat. Will accept up to and including 50 foot boat. Dink ride to Old Town is 10 minutes where one must pay $6 day to tie up OR use the free 2 hour dingy dock. The other dingy dock at Garrison Bight for those using mooring ball is free, but about a 15 minute ride and a long walk to Old Town. Call Dockmaster @ 305-809-3981 for details. We are quite happy here, planning to stay for two months….but where is everyone else? Not crowded at all. Sharon Larrison Stepniewski
There are two municipal marinas operated by the city. One is out front by Galleons and the other is around the bight behind the mooring field. We stayed in the second one [Key West City Marina on Garrison Bight]. We stayed the last two winters in this marina. We really enjoyed it but you must be able to get under an 18′ bridge. There are no amenities but its a third the cost of the other marinas. Its well located if you have a bike. Everything is about 4 to 5 blocks away. You must get a spot now if you hope to get in. Subject: Theft at dinghy dock Garrison Bight – Key West Cruising News: Another dinghy and motor were stolen from the dinghy dock at Garrison Bight on Friday (5/8) in the middle of the day. The couple was seen climbing over the seawall and using bolt cutters to remove the lock. By the time security and police arrived it was too late. The new bathhouse, laundry, and office is under construction and once complete it may help with this problem since it will overlook the dinghy dock. Until then cruisers beware!!!!! Capt. RL & Karen

To reduce time to get out to the ocean we moved to Key West Harbor yacht club on the ocean side of stock island, this only after finding out rates had been reduced to the same as Sunset Marina. This is a high end resort style marina with a fine restaurant, bar, pool, brick paver parking lots, nice new docks, and condos for short term rent. Also very clean and quiet at night. Second story restaurant has spectacular view of the Atlantic and best bathrooms/showers of any marina I have stayed at. I would highly recommend both of these marinas and a cab ride to Duval street was 20.00 one way and there is also a bus or you can rent bikes nearby. We chose stock island because annual slip rates are 50% or less of what they are in Key west bite and these two marinas were as good or better than any in Key West Bite. Jules Robinson

Sunset Marina on Stock Island just sold to a local developer July 1, 2013. We were there from November through July and loved the marina. The drawbacks are location and amenities. We overcame those with a car. It’s a $20 cab ride to/from Duvall St, but worth it if you’re drinking anyway. It’s about a 20-25 minute bike ride Downtown. I recommend Sunset Marina, it’s 1/3 the price if you stay a month or more. For just [same as] 2-5 days stay at A&B or Galleon. Bill Borchert
We stayed at Sunset Marina on the bayside of stock island for one year and were quite happy there, very nice clean modern floating docks, bathrooms / showers OK, very quiet at night, very clean and reasonable rates. Draw back was that in our slow moving sailboat it took a long time to get to a reef on the ocean side, Had to go around Key West to the west to get to the ocean. Navigation entering the marina is tricky but once we did it a few times it was easy. Also don’t mind the Sheriffs headquarters/jail and juvi detention center next door. These are new modern county buildings and don’t bother the eye. There was a homeless shelter on the grounds of the Sherriff’s HQ which caused the homeless folks to gather up the road from the marina which there were complaints about but they never bothered us, but I believe that shelter has been closed down as of this time but have to confirm.
