dockage basin lies on the upstream reaches reaches of Frenchmens Creek, east of the charted 22 foot fixed bridges – Frenchmans Creek is accessed off the northward running channel which leaves the Western Florida ICW at marker #14

Loggerhead is in close proximity to a Publix shopping center so you can stock up on food and supplies. The marina is clean and has basic amenities (fuel, pump-out, water, electricity, showers, and a simple store with the basics), but it lacks repair services. It is not accessible to sailboats as there is a relatively low clearance bridge at the marina’s entrance.

Called them twice in last week. Lowest price is $3.09 and NOT $2.09
The Maximo Marina on the east end of Boca Ciega Bay at Gulfport, Florida is accessed by a long channel that has just recently been remarked by new unlit daymark pilings which prevents deep draft boats from running aground as they enter Boca Ciega Bay when leaving Maximo Marina and turn north to go to the Gulfport City Marina. These unlit daymarks are not on any charts or chart plotters and the western most pair of the 3 sets of unlit daymarkers, green#7 and red #8, extend into Boca Ciega Bay as far as the pair of markers, #14 and #15, just to the south or them that mark another channel coming from Tampa Bay. Green #15 is a lighted marker, red #14 is unlit. The real confusion comes from the fact that the daymarks on the channel to the Maximo Marina, the northern channel, have the even numbered red daymarks on the right (as they should), and the southern channel coming from Tampa Bay, has the red marked pilings on the left as you approach the southerly channel from the west. The two unlit red daymarks that mark the two channels are less than two tenths of a nautical mile apart and look identical from a distance. Until chart plotters are updated, cruise carefully after dark on the west end of Boca Ciega Bay. David Burnham
We have stayed in Gulfport MM several times. The staff are always helpful and pleasant. It is a bit of a walk to Gulfport but if you have a car, parking is next to your boat in most cases. The last time we stayed (2012) a planned expansion was being considered for the shower area. The best part is Boca Ciaga Bay just outside the marina and a great place to anchor and dinghy in to see the art community, visit the shops or have a great mean [sic]. Gulfport is my favorite stop around Tampa Bay. There is also a nature park next to the marina and a sailing Yacht Club next door. Don’t miss it. Mike Liles Gold Flag 2011-2012 AGLCA Forum
You are so very right, Denis. When I returned from living in the Caribbean, and I found this little jewel, it felt like I never left the boating/cruising life. I love it here. Everybody can contribute to this area in so many ways….playing a role in helping with our multiple festivals, street fairs, and such worthy events such as Get Rescued, coming up on Feb. 28th. Something for everyone can be found here. And you’ll always find yourself among neighbors. Thanks for all you do. Margo Rose
We kept our boat at the Gulfport Municipal Marina for the past 2 years and cannot say enough good things about it. It all starts with the outstanding staff who understand customer service and truly like working there. We can’t say enough good things about Dennis, both Tonys and Larry(retired now).
The facilities and docks are good and the basin is very protected. We never worried about our boat when we left it in the slip for the past two summers.
The walk to the waterfront restaurants and shops is under a mile and we never had a problem. Most of the time there were many other people doing the same thing. The waterfront area is unique and well worth the walk. We even anchored there a few times and took the dinghy in. And the restaurants are outstanding. Even though we will not return there this year, we will still drive to Pia’s for dinner.
We have fond memories of this marina and will return!
In the 7th Edition to the Cruising Guide of Western Florida, Claiborne advises cruisers staying at the Gulfport Municipal Marina to use a taxi to get to town because of the neighborhood around the marina. My wife and I have walked to town the last two nights. There are lots of people out walking dogs, etc. and all have been very friendly. The marina is a great place as indicated in the guide. We look forward to returning here in the future. Steve Rutherford
Stored by boat here a few times while cruising. Secure fenced facility, floating transient docks. not really close to shopping. One of the cheaper marina’s around. Captain Sterling
It’s not what I would call “a long walk” from the Gulfport Marina to downtown Gulfport. Only moderate, about 8 blocks or so. Definately under a mile. Well worth the walk. There’s plenty of restaurants and lots of artsy shops. I often say, if I didn’t already live here, it would be a wonderful place to cruise to. Fuel is easy to get to in the marina, as long as your vessel is under 50′. Otherwise, it can be tricky turning around to leave. We have about 55′ overall, but we do it all the time. Stayed one night on our 31 foot sailboat. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They only have 50 amp service, but were able to hook up to their outlet. No showers, but is in a nice location when going to/from Tampa Bay and the Gulf Intracoastal. Manuel Farinas
We stayed at the Tierra Verde marina for one night. We have a Sea Ray 390 Motor Yacht. We called ahead and they had folks waiting for us and brought us into one of the floating docks. They have both floating docks and fixed docks. Please take Caution, the marina provides little protection from the elements, specially the extremely fast current the rips through the areas from east to west. This combined with a strong easterly wind made for a interesting docking experience. Also because of the location of the marina, most of the night our boat was rocking from side to side. We arrived just before 5 and everyone vacated the facilities promptly at 5. We were told where we could obtain shore power. However, when we connected in, power was not available. Two other transit boats came in after hours and were not able to obtain shore power either. Talking with the boat broker on premises, a lot of the shore power hookups do not work. Why they parked us at one I have no idea.. but we were able to run the generator all night long. I was expecting a discount on the overnight fee due to this, but I was told none was available. From what I have learned, the marina has just changed hands to a new owners who is trying to make improvements…. The people working there are great… but I think it is a work in progress….. We would recommend Pasadena Marina, in St. Pete. Safe secure, clean and very reasonable prices. Plus it is right across the street from the hospital, which we hope you won’t have a need to use. Our two night stay turned in to 3 weeks due to unusual circumstances, so we got to know the staff well and would stay again any time we’re in the area. Mark

SHARRYN BROWN- September 6, 2021 - 1:59 pm
My husband, Bradley and I Sharryn, had our puppies here. White schnauzers. We also caught a very large snook and I made dinner for the dock. Great people, great party . I would do it again! Miss This place a lot.
Take time to review this place. I called to rent dry dock space & flushing so we could use our ski boat while on vac. Todd Baker advised us there was a public launch near, which Egan Park is. After taking our money, he advised us the launch was closed. All the other launches are not equipped to handle tow rig parking. After wasting 3 days of our vacation, we moved our boat to another location with the amenities we originally sought. Todd was not only rude, he made us pay for 11 days before we came in and would not refund any of our money. He quoted us double the price listed here for a slip. We just could not believe the horrible service and nasty attitude. Go somewhere else, you won't be sorry you did. $208.00 we're out. Don't be us!
