Try dania beach municipal marina. It Is 2 miles south of port everglades inlet. Brand new marina, concrete floating docks. $750 per month annual I think $900 monthly. The price is by the slip not by the foot, slips can
        handle up to 50×17.

I’ll start by saying, this is beyond “you get what you pay for!” Spend the money, and go somewhere else! When we made the reservation, we were told that they had 50 amp electric. NOT! We pulled in late (at dusk), and there was know one to answer the radio. I had called ahead, and was given our slip assignment. Once in the slip, we discovered that they only had 30 amp. We found the “security” guard that checked us in, and asked about moving to where they had 50 amp service. He laughed and said: “don’t know what to tell ya, except you won’t use much fuel to run your generator!” Since it was dark at this point, we had no choice than to stay in the slip, and run the generator for power. This place is ridiculous! They also would not take cash! LEGAL TENDER!! Had to use a credit card!! Also, had to fill out 3 pages of legal mumbo jumbo! They insisted on a copy of our insurance! All this, and NO POWER! Ugh! Never again.

I would like to add (or subtract) from my previous post:
Since writing this review, I was contacted by the NEW dock master who very explained addressed each and everyone of my issues. Has also provided a full refund for the stay. This marina is in dire need of several upgrades, and he has assured me that everything addressed will be in the works (if not already) for updating and change. They will immediately start taking cash! I promised, I would return once I have heard of the changes. They are a very inexpensive marina, and in a wonderful location. If you want to give them a try, just ASK about power prior to booking 🙂

I have always enjoyed Hollywood as an alternative to Fort Lauderdale. I always try to stay in Hollywood when engaged in a boat project or taking a class at the Maritime school in Ft lauderdale.

We spent a few weeks at the City of Hollywood Marina and really enjoyed the area. It is 10 miles north of Miami and 10 miles south of Fort Lauderdale. We rented a car and explored the area. Hollywood has one of the best beaches and boardwalks on the east coast. Hollywood is a throwback to Florida before the 30 story condos took over the entire shoreline. Great bakery just across the ICW.

Stayed here several times. Nice marina, clean , fixed docks, walkable across bridge to old florida area, with bars, stores, beach walk, etc.
Rates higher in $ea$on, than summer.

Been here several times, has season and off season rates. Take a walk across the bridge to the beaches and shoreline shops and walkway, it’s a piece of old Florida just south of Ft. Lauderdale.
Several fun bars on the waterway, and a quick shop , all acesable by boat or dinghy.

We have always been comfortable at Hollywood municipal marina: Hollywood: Hollywood Marina, 700 Polk Street, P.O. Box 229045, Hollywood, FL 33021

Call ahead, they don’t have lots of free slips, but it is convenient and secure. You can rent a one-way car from the local Enterprise, be picked up at the marina and drop the car off at the airport, though there is a one-way drop-off fee usually.
There are lots of marinas in the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale area which you can find on the Web with just a search for Miami, FL marinas

Turnberry Isle, Aventura: Excelent high end facilities, pool, hot tub. They allow liveaboard. They have a free shuttle bus that runs to the mall and their beach club across the AICW. The beach club is included. For a long term stay it was going to be around $1000/month for our boat. The only downside was parking our old pickup between all the lambos and Ferraris.

      1. William Lawrenson -  June 4, 2013 - 2:45 pm

Stayed a night – planned on two, but decided not to stay. The marina facilities are OK, but needed a good clean when we were there. The help was fine. Access to South Beach is great, and that is a fun place. Access to the ocean is also great, and the ride from the ICW past the cruise ships is very interesting. Police security is active around the cruise ships, so keep your distance from both the patrol boat and the ships.
We were located on the south end of the marina, and had constant surge from (I believe) the ocean and tides, as well as wakes from boats. It was awful. You are right next to a ship’s channel at the entrance to the Port of Miami. The two boats next to us were long term live-aboard residents, who had all types of mooring lines from their boats (8 on one and 9 on the other I recall – I ended up with 6) all to no apparent avail. They said they loved the location, and you get used the constant surge, wakes and currents. We felt that at the prices they charged, there had to be a better place to stay.

      2. Jeff and Michele Prahm -  July 29, 2010 - 4:19 pm

On Thursday, July 15th, we bid farewell to our dockmates and took Hawks Channel northeast. We were going to run to Government Cut at Miami Beach, but the seas kept getting sloppier. So we headed west to Angel Fish Creek and took that across to Biscayne Bay. We took the ICW north to Dodge Island and ran east along the south side of the island toward Government Cut and Miami Beach Marina.
Soon we were in our slip. Michele promptly left the marina and jumped aboard the local bus to purchase supplies for when we would be on the hook at the regatta. I cannot say enough about Miami Beach Marina. The location is unbeatable. It is located at the southernmost point of Miami Beach, right at the mouth of Government Cut. Upon leaving the marina you can be on the Atlantic Ocean beginning your crossing of the Gulf Stream to Bimini and the Bahamas. South Beach is a short walk from the marina. Ocean Drive with the restaurants, clubs, and fun nightlife are a good walk or a short taxi ride. At the Marina, the restroom and laundry facilities are clean and well-maintained. There is a gourmet market, a ship’s store, a dive shop, and a restaurant and tiki bar with a pool. It doesn’t get much better than this for a cosmopolitan marina.
Now the negatives. It is VERY expensive. It is $3.50 a foot plus electricity. If they put you in a slip south of the dockmaster’s office, your boat gets rocked all night by the surge from cruise ships and freighters entering and leaving the harbor. Most transients get put on these docks. Sometimes you can beg for a slip north of the dockmaster’s office.

We stayed here for 3 nights in early Jan 2010. We will never stay there again! The rates are exorbitant. The bathrooms were cold. The laundry had only 2 machines.
Worst was the heavy current and the incessant rocking back and forth at the dock. We have a 42 foot sailboat and had out multiple lines, yet we slammed the dock pilings and could barely sleep for the motion and the noise of water slapping against the hull 24/7. We had one line that had chafe gear break during the night.
The fuel dock is handy, and that is the only service that we will use here again. This marina is just too exposed to the winds and currents and boat traffic of the heavily used Government Cut Channel.
It is an easy walk to the heart of South Beach, Publix grocery, Staples, Best Buy, Post Office, Church, and the south point park is beautiful for walking or jogging.
If you stop here, have a big wallet and be ready to open it wide.
