       The long-term maintenance project was begun in 2018, see Maintenance Underway. Atlantic Beach Bridge is a fixed span with 65ft vertical clearance.

      Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (Bogue Sound) – SR 1184 (Atlantic Beach Bridge)

      NC – ATLANTIC INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY – MOREHEAD CITY HARBOR – BOGUE SOUND – REDUCE VERTICAL CLEARANCE
      An engineering firm, on behalf of North Carolina Department of Transportation, will be performing maintenance SR 1184 (Atlantic Beach Bridge) bridge, over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AIWW), Bogue Sound, at mile 206.7, between Morehead City, NC and Atlantic Beach, NC. The maintenance which began October, 2018, will continue to be conducted from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Monday-Saturday; through January 31, 2020. A crane barge, a material barge, several tugs, several work vessels and work platforms will be located in and around the vicinity of the bridge.
      During the maintenance period the vertical clearance will be reduced to approximately 60 feet above mean high water, at all times, and the horizontal clearance to approximately 50 feet, during work hours. Maintenance personnel, equipment and vessels will relocate from the navigable channel, upon request. Work vessels may be reached on VHF-FM channel 13. The project foreman can be reached at (571) 287-9269 or (703) 231-8589. Mariners should notify the work foreman no less than one hour prior to transiting through the bridge.         If so gonna mean a lot of Masonboro to Beaufort sailboats!
        Need to get the real skinny in this ASAP.
        Even a 50’ horizontal clearance is tight.
