In this Facebook posting on Bob423, Tom Hale describes his recent St Andrew Sound passage. St Andrew Sound can kick up nasty conditions in the shallows of the Waterway’s magenta line east around infamous Marker 32. Alternative routes have been explored and suggested as long as I can remember. See Robert Sherer’s alternate route for more on this often challenging sound.

Thanks, earlier this year a dredge was blocking the ICW in front of New Smyrna Beach City Marina. They wouldn’t respond to hails on 13 or 16. I finally had to yell at the worker on a tug operating off the dredge in the passage side. I was totally confused and understanding the daytime signals would have helped. I ended up squeezing between the dredge and the tug, but it was intimidating.

Our thanks to Roger Long for this information and advice referring to the upcoming dredging in Coquina Harbor scheduled to begin April 1.
I had a nice conversation with the Project Manager since we promised MBYC that we would return from New York and move our boat if necessary. Permitting is not yet complete. Earliest work could begin is two weeks but paperwork could delay that. Dredging will begin at the channel entrance and work back. Slips and marina fairways will be done after the channel is finished so not for a couple weeks after work begins. Don’t avoid inquiring about transient slips in this harbor because of this news item. It could be as much as a couple months before there is any significant disruption.
