    • Bill aiming to tackle abandoned boats passes in NC Senate

A bill aiming to remove abandoned vessels from waterways in North Carolina has recently passed the NC Senate unanimously. Now, SB 465 is currently in the NC House, where it’s one step closer to becoming law. Our thanks to Ted Arisaka for bringing to your attention.

Up in North Carolina, in this year's legislative session, there is a bill SB 465 that just passed in the Senate which attempts to address abandoned boats. While I would agree that abandoned and derelict vessels are a problem and the intent of the bill, reasonable, the language contained therein seems to give "dock owners" decision rights on whether or not a vessel can anchor in adjacent navigable waters. That is a problem.
