We hear so many good things about this group; they must be doing many things right! These are not the first words of praise we have received for Burkey Marine and will not be the last.
We had a great experience over the phone being walked through our problem by Big Diesel Greg Burkey. All was well and the trip was salvaged! Some people care and yes we recommend the Greg Burkey Marine Group. Several phone calls later at no charge and we were fixed! Capt J

We were told the gasket was not seated properly on the impellor housing. After a quick snug on the screws we were off and free of charge at that, I would say my wife and I were happy and to date all is well. I would call them again given the need! Great day until our diesel engines ingested and something the boat overheated. A local dealer came out and couldn’t repair the boat for two days. Then we called a group called Big Diesel aka Burkey Marine on a Saturday after 7pm. These guys came out, fixed the blockage in our systems and we were on our way! My wife and I will always keep the number; you should too as they travel where ever the boat is! You may have to pay for airfare but Burkey Marine is our number one diesel service center for our boat. Sincerely Captain Tim Jensen FYI Burkey Marine Group 772-215-7663

Lake Worth/Lake Avenue Bridge crosses the Waterway at Statue Mile 1029, south of marker #33 and has a closed vertical clearance of 35ft. Our thanks to Skipper Johnson for this update!
As of May 1, 2015, Lake Worth Bridge is back to On Demand. Ted Johnson
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – If you were anywhere near the Intracoastal Waterway Thursday in West Palm Beach you probably saw a strange sight ‘“ a boat just sitting there apparently stuck. It prompted quite a few calls to our newsroom. NewsChannel 5 made some calls and found out that it ran aground earlier in the day. We also learned that a tow company, Boat U.S., was at the scene trying to help the boat out, but it was unsuccessful. It was the topic of the day for people walking along the Intracoastal. Much of the speculation focused on what happened to the boat and the people on board. `They’re in West Palm Beach somewhere,’ says Geri Vistein, who watched the boat from the shore. `They could be listening to the music over there at a fancy restaurant’¦who knows what they’re doing?’
This article by Angel Streeter in the Palm Beach Sun Sentinel outlines plans for a new drawbridge to replace the Southern Boulevard drawbridge, which has a closed vertical clearance of 14ft and crosses the Waterway and southern Lake Worth at Mile 1025 in West Palm Beach. Flagler Memorial Bridge, Royal Park Bridge and Southern Boulevard Bridge always present a challenge to a skipper’s patience if an opening is needed, especially during these continuing periods of construction.
State makes plans to replace Southern Boulevard Bridge in West Palm Beach By Angel Streeter Sun Sentinel Construction on new Southern Boulevard Bridge in West Palm Beach will begin in 2016.
The Southern Blvd Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway looking west from Palm Beach. The Florida Department of Transportation is unveiling its plans for replacing the Southern Boulevard Bridge. The new Southern bridge will cost about $78 million, and work is expected wrap up in late 2016. (Mark Randall, Sun Sentinel)
Another drawbridge is coming down in Palm Beach County ‘” but just until its replacement is built. The Florida Department of Transportation is unveiling its plans for replacing the Southern Boulevard Bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach while it’s still in the midst of building the replacement for the Flagler Memorial Bridge. Both bridges connect West Palm Beach to Palm Beach.
This time, the state hopes to avoid the pitfalls that have come with replacing the Flagler bridge. The state transportation department plans to build a temporary bridge to the north of the existing Southern Boulevard bridge to keep traffic moving between the mainland and the island.
This charted spoil area is on the eastern side of a narrow Waterway channel abreast of Lake Park at the southern end of Lake Worth. As with all narrrow channels in the Waterway, care must be taken to stay in the channel!

Lake Park Harbor Marina is on the west side of the Waterway, one mile north of Lake Worth Inlet. These comments from Skipper Pattison are from the AGLCA Forum.
Unless you can find a private home with available dock space, rates for most places in SE Florida are pretty silly. The farther north you go, the better the rates. We’ve used Lake Park City Marina for several years and find it to be a good place to keep a boat. Their amenities are not great but the rates are better than most and they have great floating docks. Here is the link to their website: http://www.lakeparkmarina.com/ Dockmaster Ken is knowledgeable and a great help for anything you might need. Tell him we said hi if you go there. Jim Pattison m/v Samba & Island Bound
Skipper Bessent’s information is correct as confirmed today by phone. The slip rate is $2.00 per foot per night for all vessel lengths, plus electric. Their former 25% BoatUS discount is reduced to 15%.
We are planning to stay at Old Port Cove tonight and possibly for the next few days. FYI, they have had a price increase and are now charging $2.00/foot and offering a 15% BoatUS discount. Robin Bessent
As the economy gets stimulated areas of increased expense are more and more prevalent . Now more than ever communication is key and king. Knowing before hand of a rate change, enables captains ability to budget and make way. Anticipated expense is just that. Bennett Brothers Yachts at Cape Fear Marina understands pricing sensitivity. No rate change here. Transient $1.75 / $8.00 pf monthly -electro metered. Change is enviable , change for the better takes effort. Cruise safe, have fun with challenge . PK
Peck Lake Anchorage, immediately off the AICW’s path and south of the Waterway’s intersection with the St. Lucie Inlet, had been virtually unusable because of the onsite equipment related to the dredging of St. Lucie Inlet. From earlier reports and now confirmed by Skipper Reeves, it seems that the dredge barges have been removed ahead of schedule and the anchorage is back in business.
Next stop was for a night at Peck’s Lake. MM992 No dredge in sight! South of tide station is very shallow. We went in at Green and stayed off the tide station a few hundred yards in 7-9 ft of water. Nice and quite on a Friday night. Very narrow beach to walk dog. Short walk across to the real beach where dogs are not allowed. I ran aground here 15 years ago, anchored in 6-7 ft and woke up on a sand bar the next AM. Called Boat US and was off in a few. If you have not run aground you have not cruised much. Sonny Reeves
The North Lake Worth anchorage dinghy landing is simply a small beach just north of Little Lake Worth bridge.
Good news! we anchored at this location, took [our] dinghy to the bridge and walked to all the local stores. No problems. It should be mentioned the landing for dinks is a high crime area and [we] highly recommended to locking your dinghy. I never had any problems [over] the years, but do not take a chance. No one has come to collect at anchor. A great area to rest. Plan B
I’ve anchored in North Lake Worth at least a couple of dozen times and have never heard of anyone trying to charge a fee for anchoring. It is good to hear that the dinghy landing near the bridge is once again available. This is a prime spot for those stocking up and making general preparations for a crossing over to the northern Bahamas’“just don’t listen to all the amateur meteorologists on the VHF. Judge for yourself when the weather is right for you to go. John Kettlewell

Hi Larry, Here is our review of Old Port Cove. NPalm Beach. Five Stars Easy in and out. No current in basin. The tall buildings cut the wind. Dock hand Kip came to us in a golf cart on the wide, clean slip free decks and fueled us up and guided us to one of the few vacant slips in this 200 slip marina. Many large yachts make this marina a home port inside the gated, guarded community. The finger piers are wide, with pump out near each slip. The deck cleats are large adjustable to accommodate any arrangement of ties. The facilities are first class, clean showers and laundry with 4 dryers/washers in the building with Captain’s lounge, fitness center and restrooms. The manager Mark greeted us in the office located inside the onsite restaurant. Mark had a bottle of wine delivered to our slip. Our fuel and slip were discounted for BoatUS to $1.42 @ Ft for our 40 ft trawler, $20.00 for 50 amp. and $4.35 a gal for diesel. The fare on Sunday was very good and reasonable in price. Wi Fi is free and we watched movies from netflix. Rode bike over to West Marine. We left Monday AM for Marathon. We will be back to stay at this safe, clean marina. Sonny Reeves
Dear Capt. & Mrs. Reeves, The entire crew of Old Port Cove Marina would like to take this opportunity to say `Thank you!’ for the review you posted here. We are all thrilled that you enjoyed your stay with us as well as our facilities and we look forward to your return. Have a great time in Marathon. Happy Cruising! See you soon. Look at Soverel Marina in Palm Beach Gardens. Very protected, gated, easy walking to restaurants, shops, Enterprise. I have a friend who has a 50′ vacant slip there. -Mike ‘One September’
The Peck Lake Anchorage immediately off the AICW’s path, south of the Waterway’s intersection with the St. Lucie Inlet, on the easterly waters of Peck Lake, east-southeast of marker #19. Our thanks to Captains Healy and Horowitz for these reports.
As of 11/14/2013, Peck Lake is ABSOLUTELY UNUSABLE by pleasure craft for anchorage. There is dredging equipment on station in Peck Lake, apparently related to dredging at the St. Lucie Inlet. The construction company has placed a network of stakes completely throughout Peck Lake, making it unusable by anything other than kayaks and canoes. It seems completely unnecessary to confiscate all that space, but they did it. Jim Healy
We passed Peck Lake SM 992 this morning, 17 Nov., and it appears that this is no longer a viable anchorage. Secured just east of the main ICW channel, we observed one tug, two barges, a dredge or pump barge, a dormitory barge, a floating, lighted pipeline extending from the dredge to the shore, and the lagoon populated with many white stakes. There were no other vessels there. This might be a staging area for the dredging of St. Lucie inlet. Mike Horowitz ALTAIR
12/9/2013 Claiborne, I am attaching a note from s/v Calypso, Captain Jeff and Admirable Wendy. There has been a lot of discussion about available anchorage in Peck Lake, FL, and some say you could “maybe” anchor 2 or 3 boats north of the huge barge, Capt. Jeff says he would not recommend it to any of us. For what it’s worth…. Judy and Dick
Most of the lake has PVC stakes which make it look like it has been surveyed. There is also a large floating pipeline from the barge to shore. From what it looks like they are bringing in barges full of muck for St. Lucie Inlet and then pumping it shore side. Maybe beach re-nourishment? Stay warm, Jeff & Wendy
Flagler Memorial Bridge, with a closed vertical clearance of 17ft, crosses the Waterway and Lake Worth at Statute Mile 1021, south of unlighted daybeacon #10. The former openings were twice hourly. Royal Park Bridge, with a closed vertical clearance of 20ft, crosses the Waterway at Statute Mile 1022.5, south of unlighted daybeacon #14. The former openings were on the hour and half-hour. Southern Boulevard – S.R. 700 Bridge, with a closed vertical clearance of 14ft, crosses the Waterway and southern Lake Worth at Statute Mile 1025, south of unlighted daybeacon #20. A big Thank You to Captain Healy for alerting us to these schedule changes. Now, even these schedules seem to be changing almost daily. See /?p=127999
Flagler Bridge (StM 1021.8): As of early November, 2013, bridge restrictions have changed. WORSE! MUCH WORSE! The bridge now opens hourly at the top of the hour. That’s it. Massive construction involving foundation rehabilitation is taking place at this bridge. Much heavy construction equipment is on scene. Saturday, 11/16/2013, the span was continuously open. Not sure if that’s the case all the time. Plan very carefully in this area!
Royal Park Bridge (StM 1022.6): As of early November, 2013, bridge restrictions have changed. Hopefully temporary. WORSE! The bridge now opens hourly on the quarter hour. Weekdays, it skips the morning opening at 08h15 and the evening opening at 16h15. This works well for Southbound traffic, but not at all well for Northbound traffic. That’s it.
Southern Boulevard Bridge (1024.7): As of early November, 2013, bridge restrictions have changed. The bridge now opens twice hourly on the hour and half-hour. Jim Healy
