Definition of Mandatory Evacuation Orders
From Oriental, NC
Good evening. We’ve had a lot of questions about MANDATORY evacuations. We can’t make you leave your home, however, Emergency Management during and after the storm will not be responding to personal emergencies if you stay. Once winds go above 50 MPH, NO fire/EMS/POLICE will be dispatched until the winds come back down below that level. In the aftermath, emergency services will not risk first responders’ safety to get to you. If a rescue is mounted before the evacuation order is lifted, you will be responsible for the cost of all assets used, according to State Statute. For your own safety, evacuate when told to do so.
