Gulfport Community Players Presents, Birds of a Feather A Comedy by Marc Acito June 10 – 13 & June 17 – 20 Catherine Hickman Theater The Gulfport Community Players present “Birds of a Feather” at the Catherine Hickman Theater. The Players’ first play of the season, this comedy by Marc Acito, recounts the story of Roy and Silo, two male Central Park Zoo chinstrap penguins who partnered, adopted an egg, hatched and raised a chick together. First Friday Artwalk Friday, July 2nd from 5 – 9 p.m. Downtown Waterfront District Gulfport’s First Friday Art Walk occurs each month from 5pm – 9pm. The downtown area comes to life with artists, musicians and art appreciators. The Gulfport First Friday Art Walk is free to attend with free parking. Hosted by the Gulfport Merchants Chamber, all safety protocols are met and exceeded to ensure a safe and entertaining night for the entire family. The City of Gulfport and the LGBTQ Resource Center of the Gulfport Public Library celebrated the annual Pride Flag Raising Ceremony at the first “Gulfport Pride” event on Saturday, May 29, 2021 starting at 4 PM on the south lawn of the Gulfport Public Library. In addition, the LGBTQ Resource Center’s ArtOut Exhibit at the Gulfport Public Library presented 17 local Gulfport LGBTQ artists with a variety of work from three dimensional art work to large fine photography and beautiful portraits. The ArtOut Exhibit is on display in the Gulfport Public Library during normal hours from May 28, 2021 thru June 30, 2021. Casino Dinghy Dock Temporarily Closed City of Gulfport, Florida Marina Director, Denis Frain has announced the Gulfport Casino floating dinghy dock in Boca Ciega Bay will be temporarily closed, until further notice. The floating dinghy dock will re-open when the necessary repairs and renovations are completed. Any unauthorized boats at the Casino dock will be towed to a safe location. All boaters are able to dock at the Gulfport Marina for a fee. |

Students ages 12 and up can get their Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines at three area high schools in June and July. The Florida Department of Health in Pinellas County (DOH-Pinellas) is offering the two-dose vaccine to students accompanied by a parent or guardian. Vaccines will be provided from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. by appointment only at the sites listed below. To make an appointment, call DOH-Pinellas at (727) 824-6931. COVID-19 vaccines are always provided at no cost. The first vaccination date at each school is for first doses and the second for second doses of the Pfizer vaccine that is administered 21 days apart. These are the dates and locations: June 22 and July 13 at Largo High School, 410 Missouri Ave., Largo June 23 and July 14 at Gibbs High School, 850 34th St. S., St. Petersburg June 24 and July 15, Pinellas Park High School, 6305 118th Ave. N., Largo The three high schools are among the five that have clinics staffed by DOH-Pinellas and funded by the Juvenile Welfare Board of Pinellas County. (The other two clinic locations are at Northeast and Boca Ciega High Schools.) The vaccination events are also supported by Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. |

VPK is FREE for children who live in Florida and who turn 4 years of age by September 1st. | 2021 Summer Recreation Program Registrations for the 2021 Summer Program continues for children who will complete Kindergarten thru age 14. The 7-week program (June 14 – July 30) cost is $495 for residents and $619 for non-residents, which does not include field trips. Program hours are from 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. (structured hours, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.) with extended hours available until 6 p.m. for an extra charge. Community Band Needs ‘Direction’ The New Horizons Band of Gulfport is seeking a Music Director for its beginning and intermediate concert bands. The New Horizons mission is to give adults an opportunity to play music with others, whether that person is just learning to play a musical instrument, returning to play after a long absence, or an accomplished musician. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting in an educational setting such as a high school and have some familiarity with appropriate repertoire. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: - select music for rehearsals, concerts and purchase
- prepare the band for public performances, via weekly rehearsals
- teach players of varying levels of ability and experience
- provide encouragement and instill confidence
