    • [EXPIRED] LNM: Dredging to Begin, New Pass, Sarasota, FL, near GIWW Statute Mile 72

Last dredged in 2016, New Pass leads directly to the Sarasota waterfront and the entrance portion between the Entrance Light and Light 7 is constantly shifting. And note that the Coast Guard no longer recommends using New Pass due to significant dangerous shoaling. Hopefully, this dredging will change that recommendation.

FLORIDA – CHARLOTTE HARBOR TO TAMPA BAY – NEW PASS – Dredge Operations
Coastal Dredging will commence dredge operations within and near New Pass in the City of Sarasota, Florida from approximately existing shoreline outbound approximately 4,000 feet. Dredge slurry will be transported via floating and submerged high-density polyethylene dredge pipeline. Submerged pipeline will be placed within and adjacent to New Pass as well as (up to) 1,000 feet offshore from the existing beach heading southeast to the southern end of Lido Beach. Floating and submerged pipeline may be in the channel while construction operations are underway. The pipeline will be marked. Barge and pipe fleeting may occur west of the Intracoastal Waterway and north of the New Pass inlet beginning October, 2018 through March, 2019. Moored barges and floating pipeline racks will be marked. The Dredge CLEUTUS will monitor CHF – FM channels 13, 16 and working channel 8. Operations will run 24/7. Mariners are urged to use extreme caution in and near the areas mentioned, transit at their slowest safe speed to minimize wake, and proceed with caution after passing arrangements (via VHF channel 8) have been made. Approximately 2,000 feet of floating pipeline will be utilized directly behind the dredge and portions of this pipeline and submerged pipeline may be inside of the navigation channel while construction operations are underway. Recreational pleasure craft shall attempt to avoid the immediate area of operations and comply with posted signage/day shapes. All traffic requiring passage through the worksite(s) shall make passing arrangements
allowing sufficient time for operations to cease and for dredge equipment and pipeline to be relocated for safe passage.
