This cantankerous aging railway bridge in the heart of downtown Jacksonville requires constant upkeep and has plagued boaters with its numerous maintenance lockdowns and its closed vertical clearance of 5ft (!!) severely restricting river activities on the St. Johns, a popular AICW side trip, especially in the Fall.

FLORIDA – ST JOHNS RIVER – FEC St JOHNS RIVER (ACOSTA) RAILROAD BRIDGE: Temporary Deviation
Florida East Coast Railway (FECR) is authorized to temporarily deviate from drawbridge operation regulation, 33 CFR 117.325(b) that governs the FEC St Johns River (Acosta) Railroad Bridge across the St Johns River, mile 24.9 at Jacksonville, Florida. Under this temporary deviation, FEC is authorized to operate the FEC St Johns River Railroad Bridge during the designated times and under the following conditions:
-From September 27, 2021 through November 3, 2021;
-Each week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the bridge will be allowed to remain closed to navigation from 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 12 p.m. to 4p.m.;
-At all other times, the bridge will operate in accordance with 33 CFR 117.325(b);
