    • [EXPIRED] LNM: Potential Heavy Harbor Traffic, July 4, Charleston, SC AICW Statute Mile 465

A word to wise: a very good day to stay in your slip or leave on your trailer.

      POTENTIAL HEAVY VESSEL TRAFFIC
      Charleston Harbor, SC

Users of Charleston Harbor are reminded that boater safety and navigation are paramount in achieving a successful day on the waterway.

Each vessel should have major safety features to include, but not limited to, the appropriate number of life jackets and throwable floatation devices, engine cut-off switch, carbon monoxide alarm, marine VHF radio, fire extinguishers, sound producing devices, and visual distress signals. Also, amidst the current COVID pandemic, it is recommended that boaters follow CDC, State, and Local guidance on face mask wear, social distancing, and personal hygiene/handwashing.

Charleston Harbor users should anticipate higher than normal concentrations of recreational vessel traffic in the Lower Harbor (see chart below), especially this July 4th weekend and following three-day weekends. Namely, there will be a barge concert held in the Middle Grounds, taking place from 1430-2000. USCG Sector Charleston will implement a Safety Zone for the Middle Grounds from 1200-2100, designating that all persons or vessels within the Safety Zone must anchor or transit at no-wake speeds.

This MSIB can be viewed at https://homeport.uscg.mil/port-directory/charleston. For questions or concerns regarding this MSIB, please contact Sector Charleston Waterways Management Division at (843) 740-3184 or the Sector’s 24-hour Command Center at (843) 740-7050.
