[EXPIRED] Looking for Crossing Buddy from Lake Worth to West End, Bahamas
Tam and Craig are looking for company to make their crossing. If you are near Lake Worth and plan to depart for the Bahamas soon, let us hear from you!
Looking for Buddy Boat(s) or advice for crossing from Lake Worth/WPB to West End or Memory Rock. Thanks!
Today’s Date: Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016):
We have visited the Bahamas many times via air and have rented boats in the Abacos — but we will soon be making our first crossing in our 40-foot Heritage East trawler (cruising speed 7 to 8 knots).
Craig and I are all provisioned, located in Lake Worth, and waiting for a weather window in our boat IdleTheme. We know we should wait until north winds are very low, or nonexistent.
We would love to join someone (others) who will also be making the crossing — or can provide us with advice on crossing at West End or Memory Rock.
If you are also planning a crossing, we would love to hear from you. Any guidance would be appreciated.
Safe Passages!

There are a few boats in Ft Pierce waiting for weather. We do not see any window opening up this week. Hoping for something next week.
Tam and Craig,
I’ve made the trip from Lake Worth to Old Bahama Bay several times.
My speed was faster, but I would not hesitate to go alone if no one can join you.
Do wait at least 12 to 24 hrs on a wind with a southerly component before crossing Gulf Stream. Give it time to calm down. We have 12 footers but they were big swells and not any danger. The key is to let the stream have some time to lay down. We tried to find a buddy each time but they either wanted to go earlier than we were willing to our could not make it when all was okay. Allow yourself plenty of daylight for entry at Old Bahama Bay, so leave as early as you feel comfortable to start crossing. Good place to check with is the fishing captains who come into the large marina just south of you, “Sailfish Marina”??? my memory fails me at the moment. They are a good source of Gulf conditions. Enjoy . Wish we were going this year.

Thank you so much for your helpful experience.
Right now (Thursday afternoon), anchored out in Lake Worth (of course). We have been very tempted to go Friday, but it is just too iffy. Still looking for a buddy boat or two or three!
Thanks again —

Look for a 53′ Amel, S/V Indecent, passing southbound under the bridge to Singer Island at low tide today (Friday, about 5 pm). They are probably going directly across to West End. The skipper has local knowledge of the entry to Old Bahama Bay during nigh-time hours. indecent’s speed in the Gulf Stream can drop to 5 kts/ hr. or less, but she normally motors at 7 kph. If she is under sail, depending on winds, she can do 10 kph. I don’t think the skipper will adjust his speed for a buddy boat, but he is very knowledgeabke about he crossing.
Greetings! Today is Saturday, February 13, and we are still anchored in Lake Worth, waiting for a weather window. I am getting kind of nervous that we will be here forever! But, if you are also waiting in Fort Worth and interested in a boat buddy, let us know! Thanks, Tam Westover ( westover4@gmail.com )
Hello! We hope you’ll get a window soon and will miss us, but we are making our first crossing too. But we are still on the west coast and days away from Palm Beach, where we also planned to leave. I hope your trip goes well, and we cross paths at some point.
