We have stayed here a couple of weekends with our boat “Keeper of the Stars” and we found it very nice and staff friendly. There are 2 things that we would like to mention, #1…We wish they had a general store on site instead of having to leave the property to buy soft drinks, cleaning supplies etc. #2 and most important to us….I wish they would make people put their dogs on LEASHES at all times….I have 2 small pugs that are on leashes and when ur big dog comes over and gets my dogs riled up…your dog better not cause me a problem, because I will protect them at all costs…so keep your dog on a leash!!!!!

My wife and I were recently visiting in Charleston and came across the Charleston Harbor Marina and Resort.
I was impressed with the manager Kelly Poe ( 843-284-7065) and his efforts to welcome new boaters. They are considering offering an AGLC discount and being sponsors. Although the marina is across the bridge from Charleston they offer shuttle rides every 30 minutes or so to and from Charleston. I plan on staying there this fall.

        Cruising News:
We are staying at Charleston Harbor Marina and find it an excellent facility. It’s really windy (20-30knots) but we are comfortable in a slip. Shuttle serve to Charleston was convenient. Enjoyed a nice light supper at the Reel Bar. Definitely recommend this marina if you can’t get in to the City Marina.

My husband and I made Charleston Harbor Marina our 1st stop in a month long cruise out of Southport. Capt. Stan, the Harbormaster, and his crew made our stay carefree and he even offered to make reservations for our destinations along our route. The breakwater out front does its job to deaden the wakes of boat/ship traffic and lessens any current, which makes the boat happy. The showers and bathrooms were clean, laundry on site and the hotel amenities and a shuttle to Charleston are available. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to stopping again on our return.

On a trip from SC to New England my wife and I stayed at this first class marina both coming and going. It is under new management and it certainly shows it. We were treated very nicely by the dock hands and the use of the hotel amenities are phenomenal.

Just stayed at Charleston Harbor Marina – can’t say enough about it. Modern facilities, resort amenities, friendly staff (especially Stan, the Harbormaster) and a great location. Will definitely be back!

We are doing the loop and arrived here at Charleston Harbor Marina and Resort June 1, 2011, departing July 6, 2011.

This is a great marina for many reasons. The marina staff is responsive, friendly and knowledgeable. The docks are well maintained and easy to dock plus they are floating. The marina is associated with the resort where you can enjoy the pool and restaurant. Shuttle service is available that takes you to the city of Charleston, Sullivans Island, Shems Creek (great places to eat) or the major shopping center.

The marina is close to many marina services for any type repairs.

We plan to return and winter here.

On May 10, 2011, “Hemisphere Dancer” stopped at Charleston Harbor Marina at Patriots Point. Harbormaster, Capt. Stan Jones, was happy to receive us, assign us a convenient slip to the showers/head, and provide us with information regarding this Charleston Resort. The breakwater surrounding the marina provided smooth, comfortable slips during my two-day stay, which included an early morning thunderstorm (no charge). The floating docks have water & electricity and free wi-fi. The showers and bathrooms are tiled, laundry next to baths, ice is available on the main dock, and the “Ollie the Trolley” shuttle van operates on the hour, free of charge, to downtown Charleston or Sullivan’s Island (i.e.Ft.Moultrie) from 10 am to 10 pm. Boaters have permission to use the Resort’s pool, spa, and restaurant for some very comfortable living. The restaurant features a private display of vintage, handcrafted, big game, fishing reels, two big TV’s to catch up on the latest weather or game, and free wi-fi. Attached to the Marina is Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum where for a small fee one may explore the USS Yorktown (CV-10), the submarine USS Clamagore (SS-343), a Destroyer USS Laffey (away in the yards), a Vietnam Support Base, Memorials, Gift Shop, and several movies documenting parts of WWII. Whew! I spent two days immersed in History! When I considered all of the services, luxuries, and activities available, I thought the marina transient fee of $2.00/foot was a bargain, and after receiving a Boat U.S. discount of 5%, I definitely plan to return.

We stayed at this marina for Charleston Race week. The service was responsive and prompt. Enjoyed the fact that here are many good restaurants within walking distance. Also Whole Foods and Harris Teeter for groceries. Starbucks is also close to the grocery stores. A visit to the Yorktown and a round of golf are near by.

I sure hope they’re better! We stopped here for a night right before we offshored to Beaufort, NC and while docking we found a 3/4″ bolt protruding about 2″ from their dock. It ended up gouging a hole down to the fiberglass (literally the day after we spent 2 weeks in 100+ degree weather every day compounding, polishing and waxing our hull) about 6 inches long. After MUCH complaining, they finally had us fill out a report and said they would “consider” paying for having it fixed after we got an estimate. We got the estimate, sent it to them and they never even would return our calls. We ended up eating the $600 bill ourselves. Decent place, but we’ll never go there again and we’ll never recommend them to anyone due to their attitudes both during and after the event.

Stopped by to refuel and I was impressed with the facility. The “attitude” of the entire marina seemed better than last fall and prior to that with the marina crew seeming to be happy to help with anything needed. I’m not sure what the change was, but the entire facility was more “user friendly” and I’ll definitely stop by again. Food was good and the “Reel Bar” is a blast. Customer service has definitely become “first class”.

We stayed here two years ago and enjoyed it. There is a water taxi or a hotel shuttle to take you downtown. But the currents in the marina can be fierce when docking. Ask about them before entering if you’re not sure.

Charleston Harbour Marina is a first class facility as can be seen by “Millionaires Row” – though expensive to dock. You can dinghy in for a limited time. Virtually all the marinas in Charleston are expensive compared to marinas north above Georgetown – $4 a foot for overnight, $13 per ft a month plus power is typical……. You can moor out opposite the City Dock in the Ashley River – but a strong current and a reputation for nightime stealing . Go further up the Wando or Wapoo Cut for more restful and secure locations.

Our final destination on our cruise south was the Charleston Harbor Resort Marina. We arrived with heavy winds, rough water on an incoming tide. Our call earlier to announce our arrival for both fuel and our assigned slip; we were greeted with a positive response that we will watch for your arrival and assist at the fuel dock with 3 dock hands. Once we made the starboard turn at marker 34 and then starboard into the entrance through the breaker wall, our concerns were brushed aside. We were assisted at the fuel dock as stated, and assisted with docking at our slip which was wonderful as we looked out to the huge Yorktown as it was directly in front of us. We spent 3 nights at this marina and the only down side was that the laundry room only had one washer working as the other was coin jammed and there was a long line to use the other. It was repaired the following day.
        Be well and cruise safe,
        Lou Schwartz
