Fuel: They will charge you 2.25% if you use a credit card. (And they don't tell you. ) Posted price does not include tax. The Boat Yard is staffed with friendly but mostly incompetent workers. The travel lift is ancient and scary. I had to have extensive repairs done due to a grounding. It took 6 weeks. Again and again work needed to be redone. Finding parts eluded them. It is not a DIY yard so you can not stay on board. And my large bill would have been subject to 2.25% if I paid with a credit card. If you need a your hull painted ok otherwise stay away.
Marina is fine if you are close to a shower. Do not use the boatyard for repairs. The workers were inexperienced and took way longer than normal to handle repairs, and at significant cost (we were paying for their on-the-job training). The work was inferior…..I had to redo/correct much of it after we left. While the boat was in the shipyard, we were also charged daily marina costs for a slip; I’ve never had that happen at any other boatyard. Any work that was sent out (e.g. shaft repair) was marked up 30% plus an hour labor to take it out and an hour labor to replace it. There is no nice way to describe this experience. Ken Chute

Hi Chris, You mention the hurricane Hermes repair at Brunswick marina. Was there much damage done? how did the boats fair? We are considering the marina and would like to know just how safe it is as a claimed ‘hurricane hole’ I have written to the management but my request for information has been ignored. We experienced a tropical storm there a couple years ago. The storm passed south of us mostly impacting Jacksonville and St Marys which suffered lots of damage. At Brunswick Landing Marina we did fine with winds around 35mph and higher gusts. The water and floating docks rose to within a couple feet of the concrete piling tops. That gave us real concern if a strong wet slow-moving storm were ever to get close everything could float off.
You can walk into town and see a plaque on some buildings of the historical water level during a hurricane. It is shocking. Just too much watershed and a big river to make us feel comfortable leaving the boat there during a hurricane. Big rivers, large watersheds and large tidal ranges do not make for secure places to leave a boat in the water in the event of a strong hurricane hit. On the plus side, statistically GA has a low probability of direct hits.

I love this marina! As a delivery captain and salesman, for Prestige Yachts, I stop in many marinas. Brunswick Landing is in a safe hole, with little boat traffic, easy fuel, FANTASTIC staff, free beer, and bicycles to pedal around town.
The floating docks are great, the restrooms are very clean, ice at tge end of the docks, and coffee in the morning on the fuel pier.
I’ll be back in a few weeks. Thanks for the hospitality
The marina is the best in the area, and while the facilities are some of the best on the ICW, the staff – Sherri and Cindy – are the most welcoming and “make you feel at home” people on earth. The marina is well represented by these two young ladies as anyone that has visited will attest to. Without them, it would just be another struggling marina.
Great Marina. Stopped specially to fill LPG tank because it advertised refill on site. That is not the case, have to do 1-1/2 mile walk to refill tank. Bit disappointed with the refill situation but overall good experience with my stay.

We had the opportunity of staying at Brunswick landing twice during the month of may 2015. The rates are excellent for the services offered, such as low dockage rates, free laundry, clean bathrooms, and loaner bikes. Sherri the dock master has an uncanny ability to remember boats and names, and treats everyone like family. The marina also hosted a mothers day supper and several wine nights for all boaters. The town offers good restaurants, a great hardware store, and friendly courteous people. On our trip home we had the opportunity of having their mechanic (Wayne), work on our boat. He was an exceptional gentleman of character and knowledge and provided reliable repairs at a fair price. Overall we had a wonderful time there and intend to use this marina again.
We stayed here waiting on weather and had a great time. Sherry and not the Sherry were wonderful. Helpful, personable. Bathrooms clean, as was free laundry. Farmers market next parking lot. Wine get together several times a week. Reasonable rates and easy to get in and out. Nice little downtown. Not really a place to provision without a rental car but couldn’t ask for a nicer marina to stop at.

It was a very pleasant experience to return to Brunswick Landing Marina after an absence of several years due to illness and varying travel plans. Shelley is still a remarkable dock manager with a great memory of her customers, their likes, must haves and dis-likes. The lounge and laundry areas were meticulously clean. We really enjoyed the fresh produce at the Farmers Market on Saturday morning before we left to push north on the ICW. Although the Cap’n enjoyed his hike to the West Marine and grocery store and a local family gave him and his packages a ride back to the marina, a courtesy car (even one we had to donate to for the convenience and the fuel) would have been handy. Unfortunately we did have to miss the local restaurants this time due to having the newest member of our crew on board – Mocha is a GoldenDoodle pup and at 9 months is still mischievious enough to not be left aboard alone. We definitely will return and will tell all our boating friends about the good experience at Brunswick Landing.
We have spent the last 5 or 6 summer and fall seasons at Brunswick Landing and have found it to be a wonderful experience. As with many places we have stayed, the people, manager, dock office and cruisers alike make the difference. The new manager has been instrumental in completing the new boaters lounge that is second to none as well as working to restore the yard’s reputation. Proximity to downtown Brunswick, St. Simon Island and Jekyll Island provide much to see and do. The marina is well protected and provides good access to both the ocean and ICW.
Brunswick Landing is by far one of the finest marinas on the East Coast. Whether it’s for a night, or long-term. The staff and facilities are top notch and the boating community that gathers is a fun group. We have called BLM our home for over 12 years, and as we return each season from cruising, they know us, they know our slip and they welcome us with open arms. It is at the top of our recommended list of home port marinas.
I recently had Brunswick Landing Marina prepare for trucking across the country a 50′ cutter rigged sloop. Jim Hamrick the new General Manager and his crew did a excellent job in hauling and prepping this large and heavy vessel for shipping. I would certainly use this group again in the future. This is a very large live aboard approved marina with nice floating concrete dockage in a very protected off shoot of the Brunswick River. The heated and cooled cleaned daily secured private showers and bathroom facilities are very, very nice, and the washer & dryers free as well as wifi on every dock as well as 2 captain’s lounges, 24hr security on site, however not a swimming pool. Many insurance companies have 31 lat (Florida line) as navigational limit during Hurricane season. Thus many cruisers leave their boats here for the summer season due to it’s protected location just across the line within their navigational insurance coverage limits. Brunswick is worth a look around as it has a beautiful old court house and several older homes. St Simons is a class A inlet as well as St Mary’s. It is located at the Gateway to the Golden isIs with St Simon’s and Jekyll, and Cumberland Islands, short drives away and well worth a visit. However, you will need to contract with a diver for regular cleaning as hard growth will occur here. No very close supermarket however the Food Lion and West Marine is approx. 1 mile away and there are downtown restaurants within walking of the marina. Brunswick is a nice southern town that is undergoing an economic downturn but still has much to offer. The barrier islands of Georgia also offer beautiful unique cruising (i.e. Darien, Altamaha,) if the itch to move the boat hits you. We spent a couple months at BLM a few years back: If you are concerned about the hike to the showers, ask for a slip closer up or at least compare slip locations they are suggesting in both marinas. Odds are there isn’t a huge difference. We looked at GI but without a car it’s pretty isolated. BLM won out for convience to walk to things. (if you have a car this may be less of an issue). BLM is better protected. We tried to anchor near GI one time and with a strong south wind, it looked pretty bouncy. BLM has the advantage of being right next to the shrimp docks and farmers market. GI’s big advantage is distance to the open ocean for a sail boat. If you are weekending and have a car, that might win out. Valhalla360
When we spoke to the lady who is dock master at BLM she indicated that the former Yard Manager is no longer in that capacity and they have a new one who is great. They were aware of the reputation for bad customer service on having work done and have tried to address it. Thanks, Dave
Have stayed at both… Morningstar is a hike to the showers/restrooms too. BLM is closer to shopping I believe but still a mile from grocery, West Marine. A car is the equalizer and I believe Morningstar has a loaner (on a tight leash). I’ve never spent more than a night at Morningstar so I don’t have a feel for the residents of the marina…BLM has a large nmber of regulars and a local sailing association out of it for a whole gang of friends and activities (my friend in current commodore). pseelnd
I suggest a couple of cheap bicycles for the commute to the showers, etc. You can find them for ~$10 at GoodWill, yard sales, etc. We have had a pair of bikes passed around our marina for years. Kind of fun to track where they end up. Dale Hedtke
Also no experience with MGI but kept my boat at Brunswick Landing for three months and was very happy with the stay. Management was friendly and laid back, prices very reasonable, facilities were clean. The only negative, the place is huge. If you’re on the last dock towards the end of the pier it’s a bit of a hike to the restrooms or even the parking lot. Have also heard that this is not the best place to get boat work done. Problem going to the Brunswick Landing showers, the hike is mostly down a really long pier (at least if you’re on the last dock up the river) so not a good place to ride, even if allowed by the marina (most don’t). We just bought a Hunter 380 and are moving to St. Simons Island within the year. We need to move our new boat up from St. Mary’s Island and are undecided as to whether we want to keep it at Brunswick landing Marina or Morningstar Golden Isles. The difference is about 10 minutes further drive to Brunswick from our house on SSI, but probably at least an hour to open water by boat. BLM is slightly cheaper and offer more “free” amenities. Any opinions from people who have had experience at either/both marinas? Any thoughts on the social aspects? Customer Service? We plan to be in one or the other by the second week in April. We are spending our first hurricane season aboard here in Brunswick, Georgia. Close to Fernandina, Cumberland Island, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island. It’s a pretty good home base. Not a mooring, but the best slip prices that we found at $11.00/ft per month. Brunswick Landing Marina – A Full Service Marina in Brunswick, Georgia So many boats stripped down and left here for the season. Plenty of cruisers on their boats too. Great facilities. Great protection. Stores and restaurants close by. Easy, quick access to the ICW and Atlantic. Just a thought, if you weren’t aware of this place. RTB
I have stored EOS at BLM [Brunswick Landing Marina] for the past two years from mid May until November and have never had a problem except she gets a bit dirty occasionally from pollution from the nearby paper plant. Sherrie and Cindy, co dockmasters, are very helpful, and show a lot of concern for their “charges”. There is a large livaboard community, who will look out for all the boats on their dock, and the marina in general. Donovan Vezin
Just read Sara’s comment dated 16-8-11, and I couldn’t agree more. Well run marina but forget the boatyard. We had a similar experience with almost exactly triple the price of the estimate and again the combative nature of the boatyard manager was exactly the same. He even threaten a liable suit against us! I have also talked to fellow boaters who experienced the same thing. Boaters beware! Capt. RL
We always stay here coming and going. One thing to keep in mind. Transients may be slipped farther up creek than the office dock. On the spring tides, a fair amount of current flows under the floating docks without leaving much visible evidence at the surface. It is a good idea when departing to walk out to the end of the finger pier and get a read on what is going on with the current. Chris
The Brunswick Landing Marina in Brunswick,GA would be worth considering. We kept our boat there for 6 summers and falls. Prices are very reasonable and the very able dockmaster, Sherrie, has been there for at least 6 years. It is also one of the most protected marinas on the east coast which might be important as there usually some storms in the fall and early winter. The marina is often full in the summer and fall but spaces open up in Nov. as many insurance policies allow boats waiting to head to FL to leave after 11/1 or 11/15. St. Simon’s has a long, deep entrance channel. Few anchorages once inside, but there are a couple of good marinas. Brunswick Landing has good facilities, good rates, is very protected, and is in a better location if you don’t have wheels. PorFin
Stayed here April 14-15, 2012. We stayed the better part of a month in 2009 because we liked the town and the monthly rate.
The river on which it is built is considered a hurricane hole and many insurance companies may discount your policy for keeping your boat here durring the season.
Sherry still runs the marina. Her chihuahua, “Killer” has a new companion, “Danger”, another chihuahua.
They have installed a “dock-side” pump-out station at the gas dock so boaters no longer have to wait for high tide for Sherry to use the “Everlasting Gobslopper” which is now retired.
It’s a floating dock marina so drop your fenders to the waterline as you approach.
The town has a couple small grocery stores and the Grog Shop” liquor store are within (daytime) walking distance. Downtown (near the marina) restaurants come and go and there are a few decent ones as I write this. Further away, about a mile, West Marine and grocery stores await.
Taxi fare seems high to me but car rental companies will deliver a car right to the marina and I-95 traffic is close enough to see from the marina.
Every main pier has a gas grill for all to use so fire up some steaks and shrimp.
Clean restrooms and more books in the “leave one-take one” library than you could read in a lifetime.
I recently had my boat hauled out at the Brunswick Landing Marina boatyard, pressure washed, blocked, and the bottom painted. Along with this work they replaced the cutlass bearing, which turned out to be metric. They special-ordered a cutlass bearing in the afternoon and had it the next morning, and splashed the boat that afternoon. The total job took three days and I was very happy with the yard, the work, and the friendliness of the people who worked on the boat. It is a great marina and an asset to the boating community.
We had a bad experience with Brunswick Landing Marina. We were leaving the boat for a month to go visit family and friends. We decided it would be good to have the hull painted while we were gone, so we had the boat hauled out. They found some problems and gave us an estimate to fix them. We agreed, and the work started. They then contacted us with more problems. And then more. By the time it was over, the charges were over triple the estimate, and they said they couldn’t finish even finish the work. When trying to explain the last problem, the yard manager got combative over the phone instead of calmly explaining things. We are very unhappy with the services they provided, and we’ll never go back there for work. As for transient dockage, the docks are really nice concrete floating docks. The showers were nice, and the laundry was free. If we were just staying at the dock, we probably would have been perfectly happy.
Brunswick Landing about 40 miles north of the border is a good stop. We spent the winter there a couple years ago. They have a nice cruiser community and it’s walkable. There’s a WinnDixie and West Marine about a mile walk away. Tammy & Michael

Brunswick Landing is our home marina. This is our second long-term stay. It is very reasonably priced and is clean and safe as has been mentioned. For dining options, Fox’s Pizza (already mentioned) is great; there’s also Pronzo (?) Portside Deli, Arte Pizza (fantastic brick oven specialties – good stuff!) and as has already been mentioned, the upscale and fantastic Cargo. Some good breakfast/lunch places are close by as is a public library.Grocery stores and chandleries are available but are a drive, as is Home Depot, Target, etc. Marina access is easy, depths are good and protection from weather is decent. Two captain’s lounges are well furnished and clean, as are the shower/bathroom and laundry facilities. The marina also has wi-fi service throughout. The one downside is the papermill across the marshes to the west and north. There is a current and tidal range, but it is slight compared to many other places along the GA and South Carolina coasts. We have very much enjoyed our stay at Brunswick Landing Marina. Rates are very reasonable, it is clean, safe, appears to be a great hurricane hole. Sherry one of the dockmasters is great. They have lots of friendly live aboards with plenty of local knowledge. Wayne Horn is an excellent mechanic and they have a yard with travel lift. The floating docks are very solid, no current (rare in GA) and easy to get into. The Lounges are clean, large, nice. Amazingly Laundry is FREE! They have a daily special, several types of pizza, Stromboli, spaghetti, great wings, cute decore. Great prices. Our favorite. We keep coming back. Another more upscale place is Cargo Portside Grill. Food was more pricey but well worth it. They have a first Friday celebration where many stores stay open late. We had dinner on the sidewalk while being serenaded by a good guitarist. Another great marina we stayed at recently was Brunswick Landing Marina in Brunswick Georgia. It’s only a couple of miles off of the waterway and it’s a great place to stop. The dock ‘mistresses’ Sherry and Cindy are very helpful and it’s a short walk into a very nice little town. They also have free laundry and very nice bathroom facilities. ( I do feel a bit spoiled lately.) I think their daily rate is $1.25 plus $4 for electric. Brunswick Landing is a real find. Floating docks, no current to speak of, really clean restrooms, showers and laundry rooms. Walk to main street for good restaurants. “Christie’s” is the #6 restaurant in Georgia and the best I have experienced in a very long time. One note – do not arrive on Sunday hungry unless you have arranged transportation. Rolling up the sidewalks takes on new meaning here. At least three West Marine employees live in the Marina and give assistance if needed.

Stopped there Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend. The town was closed…not a store or restaurant open. The docks are fine and the dock mistress is very good! She knows what she is doing. Tomorrow (Mon) Palmetto Moon will be on the move North from (MM 680) Brunswick, Ga. This has been our spot to escape the chilly and strong winds of the past week. While in Brunswick, we were able to see some of the nearby sights and enjoy some goooooood meals in the revitalized downtown. This is worth the effort and off route miles for a great stop. The marina is very calm and the only noise is the occasional trains going to and from the paper mill. Almost every afternoon there is a meeting, convention and general gathering of Seagulls, Cormorants, terns, small shore birds and a few crows who think they are waterfowl, that use the T-head as their place to show who’s boss bird. Often times the little shore birds are the victors. Very funny sight watching these bantams chase the much larger away. Jim Cobb Palmetto Moon

The marina is the best in the area, and while the facilities are some of the best on the ICW, the staff – Sherri and Cindy – are the most welcoming and “make you feel at home” people on earth. The marina is well represented by these two young ladies as anyone that has visited will attest to. Without them, it would just be another struggling marina.
Unforunately, Sherri is no longer there.
Great Marina. Stopped specially to fill LPG tank because it advertised refill on site. That is not the case, have to do 1-1/2 mile walk to refill tank. Bit disappointed with the refill situation but overall good experience with my stay.

We had the opportunity of staying at Brunswick landing twice during the month of may 2015. The rates are excellent for the services offered, such as low dockage rates, free laundry, clean bathrooms, and loaner bikes. Sherri the dock master has an uncanny ability to remember boats and names, and treats everyone like family. The marina also hosted a mothers day supper and several wine nights for all boaters. The town offers good restaurants, a great hardware store, and friendly courteous people. On our trip home we had the opportunity of having their mechanic (Wayne), work on our boat. He was an exceptional gentleman of character and knowledge and provided reliable repairs at a fair price. Overall we had a wonderful time there and intend to use this marina again.
We stayed here waiting on weather and had a great time. Sherry and not the Sherry were wonderful. Helpful, personable. Bathrooms clean, as was free laundry. Farmers market next parking lot. Wine get together several times a week. Reasonable rates and easy to get in and out. Nice little downtown. Not really a place to provision without a rental car but couldn’t ask for a nicer marina to stop at.
It was a very pleasant experience to return to Brunswick Landing Marina after an absence of several years due to illness and varying travel plans. Shelley is still a remarkable dock manager with a great memory of her customers, their likes, must haves and dis-likes. The lounge and laundry areas were meticulously clean. We really enjoyed the fresh produce at the Farmers Market on Saturday morning before we left to push north on the ICW. Although the Cap’n enjoyed his hike to the West Marine and grocery store and a local family gave him and his packages a ride back to the marina, a courtesy car (even one we had to donate to for the convenience and the fuel) would have been handy. Unfortunately we did have to miss the local restaurants this time due to having the newest member of our crew on board – Mocha is a GoldenDoodle pup and at 9 months is still mischievious enough to not be left aboard alone. We definitely will return and will tell all our boating friends about the good experience at Brunswick Landing.

We have spent the last 5 or 6 summer and fall seasons at Brunswick Landing and have found it to be a wonderful experience. As with many places we have stayed, the people, manager, dock office and cruisers alike make the difference. The new manager has been instrumental in completing the new boaters lounge that is second to none as well as working to restore the yard’s reputation. Proximity to downtown Brunswick, St. Simon Island and Jekyll Island provide much to see and do.
The marina is well protected and provides good access to both the ocean and ICW.

Brunswick Landing is by far one of the finest marinas on the East Coast. Whether it’s for a night, or long-term. The staff and facilities are top notch and the boating community that gathers is a fun group. We have called BLM our home for over 12 years, and as we return each season from cruising, they know us, they know our slip and they welcome us with open arms. It is at the top of our recommended list of home port marinas.
I recently had Brunswick Landing Marina prepare for trucking across the country a 50′ cutter rigged sloop. Jim Hamrick the new General Manager and his crew did a excellent job in hauling and prepping this large and heavy vessel for shipping. I would certainly use this group again in the future. The yard is a little dusty being a dirt service but the crew is very knowledgeable and attentive.

This is a very large live aboard approved marina with nice floating concrete dockage in a very protected off shoot of the Brunswick River. The heated and cooled cleaned daily secured private showers and bathroom facilities are very, very nice, and the washer & dryers free as well as wifi on every dock as well as 2 captain’s lounges, 24hr security on site, however not a swimming pool. Many insurance companies have 31 lat (Florida line) as navigational limit during Hurricane season. Thus many cruisers leave their boats here for the summer season due to it’s protected location just across the line within their navigational insurance coverage limits.
Brunswick is worth a look around as it has a beautiful old court house and several older homes. St Simons is a class A inlet as well as St Mary’s. It is located at the Gateway to the Golden isIs with St Simon’s and Jekyll, and Cumberland Islands, short drives away and well worth a visit. However, you will need to contract with a diver for regular cleaning as hard growth will occur here. No very close supermarket however the Food Lion and West Marine is approx. 1 mile away and there are downtown restaurants within walking of the marina. Brunswick is a nice southern town that is undergoing an economic downturn but still has much to offer. The barrier islands of Georgia also offer beautiful unique cruising (i.e. Darien, Altamaha,) if the itch to move the boat hits you.
Enterprise rental car are available and JAX only 40 mins. drive time.

We spent a couple months at BLM a few years back:
If you are concerned about the hike to the showers, ask for a slip closer up or at least compare slip locations they are suggesting in both marinas. Odds are there isn’t a huge difference.
We looked at GI but without a car it’s pretty isolated. BLM won out for convience to walk to things. (if you have a car this may be less of an issue).
BLM is better protected. We tried to anchor near GI one time and with a strong south wind, it looked pretty bouncy.
BLM has the advantage of being right next to the shrimp docks and farmers market.
GI’s big advantage is distance to the open ocean for a sail boat. If you are weekending and have a car, that might win out.

When we spoke to the lady who is dock master at BLM she indicated that the former Yard Manager is no longer in that capacity and they have a new one who is great. They were aware of the reputation for bad customer service on having work done and have tried to address it.

Morningstar is a hike to the showers/restrooms too.
BLM is closer to shopping I believe but still a mile from grocery, West Marine. A car is the equalizer and I believe Morningstar has a loaner (on a tight leash).
I’ve never spent more than a night at Morningstar so I don’t have a feel for the residents of the marina…BLM has a large nmber of regulars and a local sailing association out of it for a whole gang of friends and activities (my friend in current commodore).

I suggest a couple of cheap bicycles for the commute to the showers, etc. You can find them for ~$10 at GoodWill, yard sales, etc. We have had a pair of bikes passed around our marina for years. Kind of fun to track where they end up.

Also no experience with MGI but kept my boat at Brunswick Landing for three months and was very happy with the stay. Management was friendly and laid back, prices very reasonable, facilities were clean.
The only negative, the place is huge. If you’re on the last dock towards the end of the pier it’s a bit of a hike to the restrooms or even the parking lot.
Have also heard that this is not the best place to get boat work done.
Problem going to the Brunswick Landing showers, the hike is mostly down a really long pier (at least if you’re on the last dock up the river) so not a good place to ride, even if allowed by the marina (most don’t).

Stayed at BLM for about a week a couple of years ago. Great marina, good pizza close by, farmers market on Saturday. Understand you don’t want any work done on your boat by them.

We just bought a Hunter 380 and are moving to St. Simons Island within the year. We need to move our new boat up from St. Mary’s Island and are undecided as to whether we want to keep it at Brunswick landing Marina or Morningstar Golden Isles. The difference is about 10 minutes further drive to Brunswick from our house on SSI, but probably at least an hour to open water by boat. BLM is slightly cheaper and offer more “free” amenities. Any opinions from people who have had experience at either/both marinas? Any thoughts on the social aspects? Customer Service? We plan to be in one or the other by the second week in April.

We are spending our first hurricane season aboard here in Brunswick, Georgia. Close to Fernandina, Cumberland Island, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island. It’s a pretty good home base. So many boats stripped down and left here for the season. Plenty of cruisers on their boats too. Great facilities. Great protection. Stores and restaurants close by. Easy, quick access to the ICW and Atlantic. Just a thought, if you weren’t aware of this place.

I have stored EOS at BLM [Brunswick Landing Marina] for the past two years from mid May until November and have never had a problem except she gets a bit dirty occasionally from pollution from the nearby paper plant. Sherrie and Cindy, co dockmasters, are very helpful, and show a lot of concern for their “charges”. There is a large livaboard community, who will look out for all the boats on their dock, and the marina in general.

Just read Sara’s comment dated 16-8-11, and I couldn’t agree more. Well run marina but forget the boatyard. We had a similar experience with almost exactly triple the price of the estimate and again the combative nature of the boatyard manager was exactly the same. He even threaten a liable suit against us! I have also talked to fellow boaters who experienced the same thing. Boaters beware!

We always stay here coming and going. One thing to keep in mind. Transients may be slipped farther up creek than the office dock. On the spring tides, a fair amount of current flows under the floating docks without leaving much visible evidence at the surface. It is a good idea when departing to walk out to the end of the finger pier and get a read on what is going on with the current.

The Brunswick Landing Marina in Brunswick,GA would be worth considering. We kept our boat there for 6 summers and falls. Prices are very reasonable and the very able dockmaster, Sherrie, has been there for at least 6 years. It is also one of the most protected marinas on the east coast which might be important as there usually some storms in the fall and early winter. The marina is often full in the summer and fall but spaces open up in Nov. as many insurance policies allow boats waiting to head to FL to leave after 11/1 or 11/15.

St. Simon’s has a long, deep entrance channel. Few anchorages once inside, but there are a couple of good marinas. Brunswick Landing has good facilities, good rates, is very protected, and is in a better location if you don’t have wheels.

Stayed here April 14-15, 2012. We stayed the better part of a month in 2009 because we liked the town and the monthly rate.
The river on which it is built is considered a hurricane hole and many insurance companies may discount your policy for keeping your boat here durring the season.
Sherry still runs the marina. Her chihuahua, “Killer” has a new companion, “Danger”, another chihuahua.
They have installed a “dock-side” pump-out station at the gas dock so boaters no longer have to wait for high tide for Sherry to use the “Everlasting Gobslopper” which is now retired.
It’s a floating dock marina so drop your fenders to the waterline as you approach.
The town has a couple small grocery stores and the Grog Shop” liquor store are within (daytime) walking distance. Downtown (near the marina) restaurants come and go and there are a few decent ones as I write this. Further away, about a mile, West Marine and grocery stores await.
Taxi fare seems high to me but car rental companies will deliver a car right to the marina and I-95 traffic is close enough to see from the marina.
Every main pier has a gas grill for all to use so fire up some steaks and shrimp.
Clean restrooms and more books in the “leave one-take one” library than you could read in a lifetime.
Laundry is still free.
I recently had my boat hauled out at the Brunswick Landing Marina boatyard, pressure washed, blocked, and the bottom painted. Along with this work they replaced the cutlass bearing, which turned out to be metric. They special-ordered a cutlass bearing in the afternoon and had it the next morning, and splashed the boat that afternoon. The total job took three days and I was very happy with the yard, the work, and the friendliness of the people who worked on the boat. It is a great marina and an asset to the boating community.
We had a bad experience with Brunswick Landing Marina. We were leaving the boat for a month to go visit family and friends. We decided it would be good to have the hull painted while we were gone, so we had the boat hauled out. They found some problems and gave us an estimate to fix them. We agreed, and the work started. They then contacted us with more problems. And then more. By the time it was over, the charges were over triple the estimate, and they said they couldn’t finish even finish the work. When trying to explain the last problem, the yard manager got combative over the phone instead of calmly explaining things.
We are very unhappy with the services they provided, and we’ll never go back there for work.
As for transient dockage, the docks are really nice concrete floating docks. The showers were nice, and the laundry was free. If we were just staying at the dock, we probably would have been perfectly happy.
Brunswick Landing about 40 miles north of the border is a good stop. We spent the winter there a couple years ago. They have a nice cruiser community and it’s walkable. There’s a WinnDixie and West Marine about a mile walk away.

Brunswick Landing is our home marina. This is our second long-term stay. It is very reasonably priced and is clean and safe as has been mentioned. For dining options, Fox’s Pizza (already mentioned) is great; there’s also Pronzo (?) Portside Deli, Arte Pizza (fantastic brick oven specialties – good stuff!) and as has already been mentioned, the upscale and fantastic Cargo. Some good breakfast/lunch places are close by as is a public library.Grocery stores and chandleries are available but are a drive, as is Home Depot, Target, etc. Marina access is easy, depths are good and protection from weather is decent. Two captain’s lounges are well furnished and clean, as are the shower/bathroom and laundry facilities. The marina also has wi-fi service throughout. The one downside is the papermill across the marshes to the west and north. There is a current and tidal range, but it is slight compared to many other places along the GA and South Carolina coasts. There is a full service boatyard attached to the marina.

We have very much enjoyed our stay at Brunswick Landing Marina. Rates are very reasonable, it is clean, safe, appears to be a great hurricane hole. Sherry one of the dockmasters is great. They have lots of friendly live aboards with plenty of local knowledge. Wayne Horn is an excellent mechanic and they have a yard with travel lift. The floating docks are very solid, no current (rare in GA) and easy to get into. The Lounges are clean, large, nice. Amazingly Laundry is FREE!
We have had several tasty meals at Fox’s Pizza Den 1429 Newcastle Street Brunswick GA 31520 (912) 265-4490. They have a daily special, several types of pizza, Stromboli, spaghetti, great wings, cute decore. Great prices. Our favorite. We keep coming back.
Another more upscale place is Cargo Portside Grill. Food was more pricey but well worth it. They have a first Friday celebration where many stores stay open late. We had dinner on the sidewalk while being serenaded by a good guitarist.
The 4th of May Café is great too and even closer to the marina.

Another great marina we stayed at recently was Brunswick Landing Marina in Brunswick Georgia. It’s only a couple of miles off of the waterway and it’s a great place to stop. The dock ‘mistresses’ Sherry and Cindy are very helpful and it’s a short walk into a very nice little town. They also have free laundry and very nice bathroom facilities. ( I do feel a bit spoiled lately.) I think their daily rate is $1.25 plus $4 for electric. We were there for 3 weeks doing some work on our boat so we paid the monthly rate of $9/ft (35 ft min) plus metered electric.

Brunswick Landing is a real find. Floating docks, no current to speak of, really clean restrooms, showers and laundry rooms. Walk to main street for good restaurants. “Christie’s” is the #6 restaurant in Georgia and the best I have experienced in a very long time. One note – do not arrive on Sunday hungry unless you have arranged transportation. Rolling up the sidewalks takes on new meaning here. At least three West Marine employees live in the Marina and give assistance if needed.
This marina is very popular for those who have insurance that require them to have their boats north of 31 degrees north latitude for the hurricane season. Call ahead for reservations – way ahead for June thru October.

Tomorrow (Mon) Palmetto Moon will be on the move North from (MM 680) Brunswick, Ga. This has been our spot to escape the chilly and strong winds of the past week. While in Brunswick, we were able to see some of the nearby sights and enjoy some goooooood meals in the revitalized downtown. This is worth the effort and off route miles for a great stop. The marina is very calm and the only noise is the occasional trains going to and from the paper mill. Almost every afternoon there is a meeting, convention and general gathering of Seagulls, Cormorants, terns, small shore birds and a few crows who think they are waterfowl, that use the T-head as their place to show who’s boss bird. Often times the little shore birds are the victors. Very funny sight watching these bantams chase the much larger away.
