The water really races out of Snow’s Cut into the river leading to a really strong current.
Since this marina is really a State Park, they are just not equipped to run it like one [a marina]. A good opportunity for privatization.

Occasional over-nighter at CBSP Marina
Yes, almost empty marina. When I called, I was told they had plenty of room on a t-head for my 34 ft. PDQ power cat with a 17′ beam. Told to go to c dock, turn around, and dock on outside. There is absolutely NO space to turn around, and the only reason we averted a catastrophe was thanks to two fisherman who pushed us off and caught our line. Current is swift going into marina, unlike what guidebook says. The workers are courteous, but know nothing about running a marina, and saying that they were only paid minimum wage and were not allowed to help with docking. They acted like they’d never seen a catamaran, and told us they didn’t know how wide it was. Now we’re here, docked on the outside finally, and praying that we can back out of here when we get better weather. Huge trawler right in front of us, narrow entrance, huge pole in the middle for an unknown reason. So worried yesterday about tearing up my boat or someone else’s, while staff just watched. Worst docking experience I’ve ever had.

Carolina Beach State Park is a hidden gem. Rob, the dockmaster, is worth the stop there. He has been everywhere, seen everything, speaks many languages and is fascinating. Our 42 feet was pushing it getting into a slip. Fairways very narrow and really not designed for boats our size although there is a face dock that might accommodate 1-2 boats our size. Pump out is $20 but just north of there at Joyner’s, it’s $5. The park charges $30/nite includes water and power. Retail, restaurants, and Food Lion is 1.5 miles away–just outside the gate of the park. The park, 700+ acres, has 6 miles of hiking trails, We were a short bike ride from old-timey Carolina Beach, Cure Beach, and Fort Fisher where the Civil War ended. We loved it there and hate to make its existence known—but what a great stop. Planned to stay one night–stayed three.

Oct 6 stopped at Carolina Beach State Park Marina, a real hidden gem, great price only $30 including electric, plenty of water and room for our 48 foot that draws 4.5 feet and then you are well positioned to time your trip down the Cape Fear River.

Having stayed at Wrightsville beach on the way south and finding the noise from the bridge too much we decided to give Carolina Beach state park a try. On 18th May 2012 in our Beneteau 50′, 6′ draft we stayed on the A dock ‘T’ head. We were initially assigned the B dock ‘T’ head but found the draft to be less than 6′ MLW so moved to A dock for deeper water (~7′ MLW). The park offers great walks, a quite night, power and water, just what we needed and all for $30. If you are skilled at handling your boat in tight place this is a good stop.
We stayed there earlier this week. We are 42ft and had no problem getting in or docking. Great Value.

Carolina Beach State Park (MM 297.1) at the west end of Snow Cut on the Cape Fear River, NC – the marina at this state park completed a $4 million renovation in 2011 with all new floating docks, dredged channel and basin, 30 amp power, water, and bath house. Cost was $30 per night including electric for our 41 foot trawler. Our 5 foot draft was no problem at low tide on 16 Apr 2012. There are walking trails and trash containers. Friendly staff. This marina has to be a best kept secret. It is newly dredged with all new docks for $30.00 per day including 60 amps and water. The state park is a nice place to walk. Vessle length is limited. We are 37 feet and we used all of the slip.
We are currently docked at Carolina Beach State Park at the west end of Snows Cut (ICW mile 292.5). Price $30/day w/240 electric and water. All new floating docks. After you enter the basin, getting into the slip is tight but not a problem. Overall we are about 48 feet and were able to fit into the slip with some hangover front and back.
We are the only boat on one of the three docks and there are only 3 other boats in the 54 slip marina. It’s restful, clean and a worthwhile stop.
The construction is very well done and they were able to leave just about enough room between piers so that we could fit across the fairway. You could get a 45 footer in to the 17′ wide slips and the only problem would be the wind. Twins or a bow or stern thruster would make it easier.

Completely remodeled facility with new floating docks in a protected basin. Peaceful, attractive place with very nice nature trails on the Cape Fear River. Friendly, helpful staff. Easy walk to Supermarket, restaurants, beach. Great value.
