5-4-16 Now at Morningstar Marina at St Simons. At MM590. One of my favorites. Restaurant at top of docks is very good- under new management and got liquor license last Thursday. Great app’s and a great margurita!! Make res’s as very busy. Mitch- dock hand- is the beat. Current can be very bad and combined with wind can make docking no fun. Listen to Mitch (or Chick) and he’ll get you in safely. Showers are very nice and laundry also. If on south end of face dock, long walk to take out dog, go to Coastal Kitchen or borrow the loaner car (but we need the exercise!!) A very nice CRV loaner. 1 hour limit. Of course best things are the muffins and newspaper delivered to your boat every morning– best muffins anywhere!!! one of our favorite marinas!! Almost forgot– if need diesel mechanic that I think is not only good but honest– ask for Wayne. He impressed me and that is not easy!! Charlie and Jackie on Traveler.
I have docked my sailboat at MSGIM for 7 years. They have a top notch staff and an outstanding sunset without the mill. The restaurant is fine dining. Dunbar Sales (on site) provides excellent service, especially if you do not live in the area.

Spent quite a bit of time at Morningstar Golden Isles off and on, I like the staff and it’s really convenient for a day sail. Good restaurant on the premises plus I like St. Simons Island more than Brunswick.

We stayed over the windy and rainy 2013 Thanksgiving weekend at this pleasant and well maintained marina. There were some challenges getting 30 amp electric service since the whole facility is wired 50 amp and there were no splitters available, but the dockmaster did his best and we were able to find a spot on the rack & stack dock with electric we could use. It was a very friendly crowd there, and the daily two for one happy hour at the onsite lounge was the place to meet up. Nice showers and other shoreside amenities, our only quibble was that the free morning paper and muffins never materialized.
I love Morningstar Marinas. and Golden Isles is no exception. We stayed three nights in late May, as we have done many times before. The staff are great, as is the free delivery of the paper and muffins in the morning. The showers are clean and maintained, and my favorite Catalina Dealer, Dunbar Sales, is on the premises.
We used the pool and the local restaurant, as well as Jekyll Club and a restaurant in St Simon’s and had a uniformly good experience. St Simon’s and Jekyll Islands are great tourist areas, so rent a car, and have some fun off the boat as well.
We are Morningstar Gold Members, and as such receive discounts at all their marinas. This program is worth looking at if you like their quality. Golden Isles, St. Simon’s is just a great example of their marinas.
We stayed here two weeks ago and had a very pleasant experience. The dockmaster is very adept at helping you with your lines, which is especially important with the tidal flow at this marina. The dock is in good shape and the shoreside facilities were clean. The marina also owns the pool, so if you like that, it is a great place to have a cocktail in the afternoon. We did eat at the on-site restaurant with another tramsient boater, and the food was excellent. All in all it was a very nice marina and experience, and reasonably
priced with a Boat US discount.
One other added feature that was nice, we discovered a couple of days later in Savannah. We stayed at another marina in Thunderbolt, called the Bahia Blue Marina. Once I told the dockmaster there that we had just stayed at Golden Isle, we received a .30 cent per ft. discount on our stay at Bahia Blue.

We stayed at this Marina from February until April, on our passage from Ft. Lauderdale, home to North Carolina. We could not have been more pleased.
From our initial phone conversations with Chris Ferguson, the general manager, we were impressed.
All the staff go out of their way to be helpful. There was not a single need that was not met. The office staff called us every time we had a package/mail to be picked up- and we have a lot of packages!! Mary and Penny were great!!
The facilities are clean and ample sized. The laundry is adequate and reasonably priced.
Use of the loaner car (free) is a big plus!!
We initially planned to stay only a few weeks- one month, but liked it so well we decided to stay another month.
We will definitely stay here again when we head back south for the winter.
Of note, Melissa is no longer the dockmaster, but Chick, Buck and Alfred took very good care of us throughout our stay.

Another enjoyable stay here. We biked over to St Simons there were 7 ft wide bike paths and came back to the marina and had a wonderfull dinner at the Coastal Kitchen. Also marina is offering a !0% for Boat US

This is a favorite stop despite the fact that one has to travel several extra miles to reach it (the bridge over the western passage is now the ICW channel), and one must travel all the way around the intermediate island to get to the marina. When I was there in the 1970s, the ICW passed right by the present location of the marina which, of course, is much changed. Golden Isles Marina is a first class operation with modern buildings and many services. The loaner car is one of these, and while it is a long walk to the showers and laundry, the facilities are well above average in convenience and
cleanliness. The dockmasters, Chick and Melissa, know their stuff and follow the lead of the captain instead of trying to take charge. We missed Melissa this stop, and the fact that we not only remembered her but also her name says much about our attraction to this marina. We like the town, too.

That small, friendly gasoline stop is now Golden Isles Marina, and we made a reservation for an overnight stay and a fuel stop. The drawbridge has now been replaced by a low fixed bridge, and the ICW is on the opposite side of the island requiring going a couple of miles beyond the island and doubling back to the marina. We didn’t mind. Melissa, the dockmaster, had time to chat over the radio and I explained how we wanted to dock. She got it the first time, unlike the bohunks at XXXX, and became our instant friend.
Melissa gave us the keys to the loaner car so we could go across the bridge to St. Simons and fill our propane tank and buy a few groceries. St. Simons is an attractive town, the sort of place one might like to live except it must be very hot in summer and the odor of pulp mills is apparent when the wind is from that direction.
There’s a restaurant at the marina, where we indulged ourselves with a fine meal. The showers are first class — on the second level reached by stairs or elevator. It is a great and friendly facility, and we would go out of our way to stop there again.

Chick gets it done!!!
We stay here coming and going every year and have always looked forward to this stop. Modern floating docks and a great staff. Excellent access to St. SImons with the loaner vehicle. Will continue to make this a stop whenever possible.

Just spent three days here waiting out the remains of IDA. Great staff (Melissa, Rose, Chick et al). Coastal Kitchen at the top of the dock had excellent cuisine. Rented a car at the airport (closeby) to visit St. Simons and Jekyll Island. Gonna miss the muffins and newspaper in the morning when we’re in a marina next.

I have stayed at Golden Isles, The lady who runs the docks is great. The current is strong so take notice. There is a great restaurant at the marina so enjoy. St Simons and Sea Island are both within miles. The Cloister at Sea Island is beautiful, expensive, and first class.

Free courtesy car which we used to go to West Marine and Winn Dixie ( a 5 minute drive). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the restaurant at the end of the dock. In the morning we awoke to muffins and a local paper on our deck.

We have had the pleasure of docking as well as using the dinghy docking privileges at Golden Isles Marina several times in the last 2 months. We found the dock facilities very good. We had kids aboard and they loved swimming in the pool. Melissa was a great dockhand and helped us with the current. If you call ahead and take her advice you should have no problem docking. We used the courtesy car a couple of times, very handy. The Coastal Kitchen was an excellent restaurant. We had two very good meals both lunch and dinner.
We anchored out a couple of nights too and dinghyed in. $5/day. Holding was no problem but the tide will swing you back and forth. Laundry was reasonable and convenient. Restroom could have been nicer but clean and functional.
Very close to St. Simons and Brunswick.

I do the US East coast 12-15 times per year and one of my favorite stops is at Golden Isle Marina in St. Simons. The dockmaster is Melissa and she is great. Fair fuel prices and good facilities. They will drive you to stores and restaurants and are very accommodating in all the services provided. The channel going in has been changed in the last year so make sure you are using a current chart. Very easy if you have the proper charts. Call ahead and either Melissa or one of her associates will give you very good instruction. Listen to what they say about which side to the dock since the current may be moving right along. Great floating face dock, no problem. Newspapers and Muffins every morning. (Yum). My favorite restaurant is Barbara Jeans on the island.
If you need a last stop in FL the work should all be done at Fernandina City Marina just inside at St. Mary’s. Have a great meal right on thedock at Brett’s.

Golden Isle Marina in St Simmons has new dock and new pedestals, although dockage went up a quarter to $2 a foot. still a good stop will leave later tomorrow to get thru Jekyll near high tide…

Cruising News: Stop in here if you are ever in the Brunswick, GA area. Great docks, super restaurant and and a very good dockmaster, Melissa Linton who will make sure you have a good experience. Mechanic Wayne Horne worked on my alternator on Mothers Day and did a great job. Got some help with our A/C water strainer fom a fellow boater. Very friendly crowd at Golden Isles and definitely on my “return here” list. Cruisers net marina sponsors have been exceptional from the Panhandle, down the west Florida coast, fom Stewart Florida up to Savannah…what a great resource!
