Stopped in for a couple of days while transiting north in January, 2020. Can't say enough fine words for the cooperation and friendliness of the staff while servicing this newbie cruiser. Completely met all our needs and provided excellent advice. Adjoining restaurant offers fine fresh fish and burgers. Be sure to check in with Jamey if you want rides into town. Otherwise, Uber is available.
First time to Jekyll in a couple years. Marina under new management and services are good. The adjoining restaurant, DJ’s is closed, but being renovated by new owners and supposed to be open later this year. New town center on the island is beautiful with groceries, shopping and several restaurants – quite an upgrade from the past. It’s within walking distance, or the marina will let you use their golf cart for up to 90 minutes at a time. I required some engine work and they recommended Leo Ross, 912-266-1323, from Brunswick. He did a good and reasonable job and is also recommended.
If it were not for the exposure to the weather, I would have given this marina five stars. You are tied up to a face dock and wind out of the south can make things exciting. There can also be a wake problem when one of the jerks who can not understand the "no wake" sign come past.
Aside from the above the place is wonderful. It is right on the ICW, has fuel, a pumpout ($15.00) and the rate is reasonable. The staff is on the ball and will be happy to help you with any questions. There is a restaurant at the marina but for serious dining you want to head for the Jekyll Island Club. In fact, if you have the time a tour of the historic district is a must. You can find out how the rich and famous lived back around 1900.
They have made quite a few changes over the last few years. There is now a high end market available next to the convention center. It is well stocked and also has a few restaurants inside. Be forewarned, nothing on Jekyll Island is cheap.
Public transportation is very limited, so bring your bikes or be prepared to rent a car from Enterprise, in Brunswick, they will pick you up at the marina. If you rent a car, everything that you will ever need is in Brunswick.
If you like to ride bikes, the Island has over 20 miles of trails. The locals will stop for you where the trail crosses the road. Most tourists, not so. They will flatten you ass in a heartbeat.
We arrived in early December and ended up staying for the entire month. We will be back in the spring.
I highly recommend at stopover at Jekyll Harbor Marina for cruisers traveling the ICW. Located directly on the ICW, the marina is a very convenient stopover for the weary traveler looking for a couple days of R&R. If you haven’t visited Jekyll Island before you’ve missed a real treat. The beaches and Historical District are less than a mile away, easily within walking and biking distance. Or why not try one of the marina’s new complementary golf carts and explore the island. Jekyll Island is an unique coastal treasure. In Georgia it’s called the “nearest faraway place.” The onsite restaurant “684″ (formerly SeaJay’s) is under new ownership with a new chef. Two weeks ago I was traveling up the ICW from Fernandina Beach to St. Simon’s Island with another boat. We contacted Meagan at Jekyll Harbor Marina a couple days ahead to make sure it was OK for us to tie up at the transient dock over lunch hour. Hi Capt Larry, The dockmaster Scott Todd @ Jekyll Harbor Marina has worked hard with the owners to get two golf carts for boaters to use on the island. These are excellent vehicles to visit the Historic district and the shopping center on the island. In addition a new set of washer and dryers are now in our renovated laundry room. The Showers have been tiled and updated. Very nice and just in time for South bound cruisers to stop over on Georgia’s Jekyll Island. With 30 miles of bike trails you can ride one of the marina’s free and new bicycles to the beach, the forest or river view trails in safety off the roads.Enjoy! Sonny
Jekyll Harbor Marina is a great spot right on the ICW to spend the night, or spend several months. We are spending the winter here. Great facilities – pool, restaurant, bicycles available, dog friendly, the staff is friendly and always ready to help, and the General Manager, Scott Todd, makes it all run like a well oiled machine. If they don’t have what you need just ask and they will do everything they can to make your visit a pleasant one. Stayed two night here. The people are nice: however, when I expressed concern about them putting a boat 2 feet in front of me, I was told they would get me out at 5:30 rather then moving me while they had space. It did not go well because of a missed dock line which I was told to leave. $600 of gelcoat damage was the result. It can be hard to take care of everything in dark and fog.
We too stopped at Jekyll Harbor on our way to Charleston last month. I was pleasantly surprised at the service and the shuttle available. We didn’t have any issues with the strong current because they put us on the outside of the lay along dock. I also recommend this as a convenient stop either north in the spring or south in the fall. Every cruiser going north or south along the Georgia ICW will pass Jekyll Harbor Marina, just below the bridge to Jekyll Island at AICW mile 684. There is always a concern about currents or water depth as I pass this marina so I know looking over a marina is the last thing I want to do; I just want to get safely out of the area. Recently things were different and I needed a place to weather out a storm near St Andrews Sound and called the folks at Jekyll Harbor. They couldn’t have been more accommodating in every way possible. Not only did they do a great job of snatching me off the waterway in strong currents, they arranged a van to take several of us to dinner over at the Club that night. Their dock prices are reasonable and the staff is most helpful. The General Manager, Scott Todd, has even offered that if 6 or more boats come in together, he will personally cook supper for everyone. Make a note of that offer for the Spring migration northward. The Hot tub is Hot! Thanks Terry! The pool is always shaded by beautiful Live Oaks adorned with Spanish moss and is always Cold! The showers are clean! Thanks V! The new renovations are nice. Thanks Randy! The docks float and are concrete, the potable water is clean and each slip has a connection with a dock box. The WiFi is strong enough for NetFlix! Thanks Doc! The facedock is always full of interesting transients. The Parking is close by and shaded by the beautiful Live Oaks! The new bike trail is safe and goes over to the old mansions and “The Club” or the beach connecting to 25+ miles of bike trails. The market, post office and other stores are a short bike ride away. Our boat insurance rates are lower here than 60 miles south in Florida. We don’t smell the paper mills in Brunswick. Shark tooth hunting. Shelling. Watching the Bald Eagles and seeing Deer, Alligators and Raccoons on the bike rides. We have the most awesome sunsets over the marsh. The State park is a gated, state trooper patrolled community. The beautiful beaches are mostly deserted during the week days. Drift Wood Beach is remarkable in it’s beauty. Cumberland Island and other great anchorages are a short boat trip away. We are safe and secure at our homeport.
What we don’t like about being at Jekyll Harbor Marina: The no see ums that swarm when the wind dies down. The good side is they keep the “Disneyland” type tourists from visiting! The water in the ICW is dark brown from the silt and tannin. The good side is If the water was clear and there were no bugs then the place would be developed worse than any tourist trap in Florida. One of the Live Oaks fell and crushed a car we were fond of, but the insurance paid off so we could buy another. Thanks State Farm! Idiots that speed on the island! Idiots that speed on the water! Idiots that don’t stop or slow down for people on bikes even in the crosswalks. Fishing and catching stingrays. We fear that developers will some how get control and their greed will destroy this Jewell of the Golden Isles. It is 30 miles to downtown Woodbine Georgia the home of Capt. Stan’s Smokehouse. This restaurant needs to be onsite. We all have to die from something and I choose BBQ and fresh oysters! The onsite restaurant just does not get the message. The new traffic gate seems to slow the trip back on to the island instead of making things more efficient. Tourists that walk the dock looking into the boats and generally being annoying. Tourists that throw their trash out on the roads, beach and the water. There is no music on the docks since Andy and Diana have gone to the Chesapeake for the summer. Captain Sonny
I agree with most of the positives, but need to add a couple of negatives . . . several years ago we were at the dock when a tropical storm was approaching. At that time (and maybe now) the marina had a contract with a large river cruise liner. On the morning of the storm the cruise ship decided to return to the marina to ride out the storm. Three boats (included ours) were . . . told to leave. The result was that we were kicked off the dock in 30 kts of wind. No fun crossing GA sounds in that kind of wind. After a very trying day we anchored safely in Cattle Pen Creek. Since that incident we have not stayed at the marina unless the tides were unfavorable for doing Jeckyl Creek. Jim Smiley
We docked at Jekyll Harbor a few days ago, as usual the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. This can be a challenge when the current is running strong and the staff knows exactly what you should do if you have any doubts. Dinner at SeaJays was good. The night we were there the crowd was much greater then they had anticipated and they only had one wait staff and she was literally running to keep up. She did a great job and no one was upset with a little extra wait time. Prices were good and the food was great. Could have used a couple more shrimp in the shrimps and grits but it was great. Have stopped there many times. Four (4) days early 2013. Everything is good about this marina. What ever your needs, they can accommodate. Wife needed medical attention from a prior finger injury, no problem. Gave us their vehicle to travel to a Medical Facility in Brunswick, Ga. Also, very friendly and helpful live a boards. Raymond W. Claiborne, In response to your request for NE FL/Ga wish list items – here is Jekyll Harbor Marina: We spent two nights at Jekyll Harbor Marina starting on March 30, 2013 as part of our journey home from Marathon to VA on our 37′ sailing vessel. We were tied up on the face dock directly parallel to the waterway. Entry for tie was easy into the current with good help from skilled and friendly staff. Depth may be a problem here for some. We draw only 4.5′ and had no issues on the face dock. However, we did see as low as 5.8′ while tied up and another sailing vessel that also draws 4.5′ in a slip at a right angle to the face dock closer to shore and across from us told me they sit in the mud during many lows. However, this is their third year here as their home port and they “love the place”. There is clearly much to love here. We specifically stopped here because our 6 year old grandson was onboard for a four day visit. Don’t miss the Jekyll Island Club in the historic district for some great food, stop at the sea turtle hospital, use the many miles of excellent biking and walking trails for access all over the island. Driftwood beach on the north end is a special spot at low to mid-tide with massive exposed trees blown over that must be explored by kids and adults. There are guided 3 hour kayak tours operated from the Univ. of GA marine site south of the marina that we did not do, but heard good things about. Issues reported here with shallow water just north of the Jekyll Island bridge are true. We departed near low tide and expected to be OK with our 4.5′ draft. We spent a few nights at this marina on our way south earlier this year. The floating dock is easy to tie to, the facilities are clean, and the historic district is a short walk away. There are several liveaboards at this marina, and they are very outgoing, usually inviting transients to one of their many cookouts. We think that the food at SeaJays is not as good as it has been in years past, but they have a great happy hour every day, which we enjoyed. Captain Mary Intermezzo
Still a great stop and still has courtesy car. Price could be cheaper, but given they have a pool, car, etc, then the price is ok. Restaurant is still there and good. Water depths thru Jekyll Creek still shallow, but we see 5′ draft boats going thru threre at dead low tide. Some great things going for this place: ultra clean showers, wifi that actually works at the docks, courtesy car and loaner bikes. Just make sure you budget for the extra charges on dockage. Bravo, Scotty, for great service. We are currently staying here at Jekyll Harbor Marina on our journey back north and wanted to let cruisers know that they are charging for every foot your boat, dinghy, davits, anchor overhang, etc. take up on their face dock. We are a 37 ft. sail and they wanted to charge us for 49 ft. We negociated them down to 42 ft.
It’s about time I added my two cents’ worth. We began stopping at the Jekyll Harbor Marina in 1999. Fast forward 10 years, and we began to leave our boat here on a permanent basis. We don’t get to spend as much time on our boat as we would like, but this place just keeps getting better. Great dockmates, a customer-friendly new manager, the best potlucks ever and a whole island to explore. The JIA is agressively making improvements with miles of new bicycle paths, new convention center. The landscaping of walkways and bikepaths is beautiful. Jekyll Island and the Marina are very special. The new dock master, Jessie and staff are working hard to improve everything. The new walkway, clean showers and pool area under the live oaks are the nicest on this coast. A bike ride to the beach or the historic district is in order when you dock here. No problems with depth at the docks and the channel is clear. Jessie and the staff cooked a wonderful thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings plus homemade Clam chowder for the cruisers docked here on Thanksgiving.
Here’s an update since we decided to stay for a while rather than push on. Jessie, the new dock master, is busy with lots of maintenance and upgrade projects: replacing the wooden walkway to the floating docks, more powerful WiFi with repeaters to push the signal below decks, revamping the showers, and generally putting things in tip-top condition. They’ve started a boaters reward program with coupons for free laundry tokens, discounts on dockage, free bicycle use. No hassle to join, just give them your email or even just the boat’s name. Friendly community of cruisers, many of whom return year after year. There’s often an impromptu party on the dock around sundown that may then migrate to Sea Jay’s to listen to the live music. I echo Capt Diana’s comments. We’ve been at Jekyll Island Marina since February. Friendly people, great restarants. Since most transients tie up side-on to the east side of the river, there is an unobstructed view of the sunset. The ICW here is a bit tricky, but keep a close eye on the sounder and plotter and you’ll be fine. Sun Dog – 420 Sundancer
Jekyll Island’s specialness, and the many reasons that make Jekyll Harbor Marina a great stop along the coast, has been well-described here. I would like to add to it and make some corrections, however. SeaJay’s Waterfront Cafe and Pub is open year-round (not seasonally) seven days a week. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the entertainment is live, acoustical guitar music. And yes, the Wharfratz still perform, getting better every year. The place can get busy, but the veranda’s stunning view at sunset can make the wait more pleasant. Also just south of Jekyll Harbor is Tidelands Nature Center, easy to reach with one of the marina’s courtesy bikes. A courtesy van (island use only) also helps meet provisioning needs and takes guests to golf courses. The local grocery has nearly everything a cruiser might require, fresh and otherwise. Enjoyed our stay at Jekyll Harbor Marina. Highly recommend a tour of the mostly restored Millionaire’s Club area. Ate lunch and dinner at the club house. Both were excellent. Lunch was fairly cheap, but dinner very expensive, but worth it in my estimation. Also there is the Georgia Marine Research center which has a hospital for turles. One was having an operation!!! Jekyll Harbor Marina as always is a nice place to stop – $1.75 transient rate. But if you just buy a little fuel and perhaps have lunch at the delightful Caribe style restaurant, they’ll let you stay at the dock free for a couple of hours. Certainly an overnight stay is worthwhile if only to see the “Millionaires Club” where at one time (circa 1910) the Morgans, Rockefellers and Rothchilds formed the Federal Reserve. Now their less wealthy successors play croquet on the lawn – “keeping a stiff upper lip” as we Brits say. Captain Arnold
Good stay on 10/27 – for the first time the tides didn’t seem to be as strong, we had to mess around some to figure out what it was doing, but not quite slack. SeaJays was an outstanding place to hang out for the night, even with almost nobody around!

Our next stop was Jekyll Harbor Marina (in 2008 and 2009). This is a small facility with friendly competent service. The restaurant is open only seasonally, but the food is fine and on Friday and Saturday nights they often have live music and it can be a long wait for service (a good sign, but frustrating). We have been to Jeckyl a number of times in the last 5 years and stay at the Jeckyl Harbor Marina. Is always a great place to stay and do day trips from. SeaJays is not fancy but the food and entertainment is always exceptional. Do not know if they are still performing on occasions, but the WarfRats are great. David

snatching me off the waterway in strong currents, they arranged a van to take several of us to dinner over at the Club that night. Their dock prices are reasonable and the staff is most helpful. The General Manager, Scott Todd, has even offered that if 6 or more boats come in together, he will personally cook supper for everyone. Make a note of that offer for the Spring migration northward.

The Jekyll Harbor Marina is almost done with a major dredging project; the last of the slips are being finished this week. We will now have over 12-13 feet in some slips. None will be less than 9 feet. Thanks to Scott Todd and the Marina staff for working so hard on this project.

Cumberland Island and other great anchorages are a short boat trip away.

What we don’t like about being at Jekyll Harbor Marina:
The no see ums that swarm when the wind dies down. The good side is they keep the “Disneyland” type tourists from visiting!
The water in the ICW is dark brown from the silt and tannin. The good side is If the water was clear and there were no bugs then the place would be developed worse than any tourist trap in Florida.
One of the Live Oaks fell and crushed a car we were fond of, but the insurance paid off so we could buy another. Thanks State Farm!

We fear that developers will some how get control and their greed will destroy this Jewell of the Golden Isles.
It is 30 miles to downtown Woodbine Georgia the home of Capt. Stan’s Smokehouse. This restaurant needs to be onsite. We all have to die from something and I choose BBQ and fresh oysters! The onsite restaurant just does not get the message.
The new traffic gate seems to slow the trip back on to the island instead of making things more efficient.
Tourists that walk the dock looking into the boats and generally being annoying.
Tourists that throw their trash out on the roads, beach and the water.
There is no music on the docks since Andy and Diana have gone to the Chesapeake for the summer.

I agree with most of the positives, but need to add a couple of negatives . . . several years ago we were at the dock when a tropical storm was approaching. At that time (and maybe now) the marina had a contract with a large river cruise liner. On the morning of the storm the cruise ship decided to return to the marina to ride out the storm. Three boats (included ours) were . . . told to leave. The result was that we were kicked off the dock in 30 kts of wind. No fun crossing GA sounds in that kind of wind. After a very trying day we anchored safely in Cattle Pen Creek. Since that incident we have not stayed at the marina unless the tides were unfavorable for doing Jeckyl Creek.

We docked at Jekyll Harbor a few days ago, as usual the staff was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. This can be a challenge when the current is running strong and the staff knows exactly what you should do if you have any doubts. Dinner at SeaJays was good. The night we were there the crowd was much greater then they had anticipated and they only had one wait staff and she was literally running to keep up. She did a great job and no one was upset with a little extra wait time. Prices were good and the food was great. Could have used a couple more shrimp in the shrimps and grits but it was great.

Wife needed medical attention from a prior finger injury, no problem. Gave us their vehicle to travel to a Medical Facility in Brunswick, Ga. Also, very friendly and helpful live a boards.

In response to your request for NE FL/Ga wish list items – here is Jekyll Harbor Marina:
We spent two nights at Jekyll Harbor Marina starting on March 30, 2013 as part of our journey home from Marathon to VA on our 37′ sailing vessel. We were tied up on the face dock directly parallel to the waterway. Entry for tie was easy into the current with good help from skilled and friendly staff. Depth may be a problem here for some. We draw only 4.5′ and had no issues on the face dock. However, we did see as low as 5.8′ while tied up and another sailing vessel that also draws 4.5′ in a slip at a right angle to the face dock closer to shore and across from us told me they sit in the mud during many lows. However, this is their third year here as their home port and they “love the place”.
There is clearly much to love here. We specifically stopped here because our 6 year old grandson was onboard for a four day visit. Don’t miss the Jekyll Island Club in the historic district for some great food, stop at the sea turtle hospital, use the many miles of excellent biking and walking trails for access all over the island. Driftwood beach on the north end is a special spot at low to mid-tide with massive exposed trees blown over that must be explored by kids and adults. There are guided 3 hour kayak tours operated from the Univ. of GA marine site south of the marina that we did not do, but heard good things about.
Issues reported here with shallow water just north of the Jekyll Island bridge are true. We departed near low tide and expected to be OK with our 4.5′ draft. We did make it through but bumped several times starting just south of Marker 19″ .

In spring of 2010 we stayed two nights at Jekyll Island Marina. Fine place. We had a GREAT dinner at the Jekyll Island Club. Have not eaten at sea-Jays.

We spent a few nights at this marina on our way south earlier this year. The floating dock is easy to tie to, the facilities are clean, and the historic district is a short walk away. There are several liveaboards at this marina, and they are very outgoing, usually inviting transients to one of their many cookouts. We think that the food at SeaJays is not as good as it has been in years past, but they have a great happy hour every day, which we enjoyed.

Still a great stop and still has courtesy car. Price could be cheaper, but given they have a pool, car, etc, then the price is ok. Restaurant is still there and good. Water depths thru Jekyll Creek still shallow, but we see 5′ draft boats going thru threre at dead low tide. We did it at dead low tide in our 4′ draft and were nervous, but did fine (saw nothing less than 5′)

Some great things going for this place: ultra clean showers, wifi that actually works at the docks, courtesy car and loaner bikes. Just make sure you budget for the extra charges on dockage. Bravo, Scotty, for great service.
We are currently staying here at Jekyll Harbor Marina on our journey back north and wanted to let cruisers know that they are charging for every foot your boat, dinghy, davits, anchor overhang, etc. take up on their face dock. We are a 37 ft. sail and they wanted to charge us for 49 ft. We negociated them down to 42 ft.
It’s about time I added my two cents’ worth. We began stopping at the Jekyll Harbor Marina in 1999. Fast forward 10 years, and we began to leave our boat here on a permanent basis. We don’t get to spend as much time on our boat as we would like, but this place just keeps getting better. Great dockmates, a customer-friendly new manager, the best potlucks ever and a whole island to explore. The JIA is agressively making improvements with miles of new bicycle paths, new convention center. The landscaping of walkways and bikepaths is beautiful. Jekyll Island and the Marina are very special. The new dock master, Jessie and staff are working hard to improve everything. The new walkway, clean showers and pool area under the live oaks are the nicest on this coast. A bike ride to the beach or the historic district is in order when you dock here. No problems with depth at the docks and the channel is clear. Jessie and the staff cooked a wonderful thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings plus homemade Clam chowder for the cruisers docked here on Thanksgiving.
Here’s an update since we decided to stay for a while rather than push on. Jessie, the new dock master, is busy with lots of maintenance and upgrade projects: replacing the wooden walkway to the floating docks, more powerful WiFi with repeaters to push the signal below decks, revamping the showers, and generally putting things in tip-top condition. They’ve started a boaters reward program with coupons for free laundry tokens, discounts on dockage, free bicycle use. No hassle to join, just give them your email or even just the boat’s name. Friendly community of cruisers, many of whom return year after year. There’s often an impromptu party on the dock around sundown that may then migrate to Sea Jay’s to listen to the live music.

The staff and manager couldn’t be more helpful. The concrete face dock parallels the current so, making arrival and departure much easier. We enjoyed being a short bike ride from the historic district and spent several days exploring the island.

I echo Capt Diana’s comments. We’ve been at Jekyll Island Marina since February. Friendly people, great restarants. Since most transients tie up side-on to the east side of the river, there is an unobstructed view of the sunset.
The ICW here is a bit tricky, but keep a close eye on the sounder and plotter and you’ll be fine.

Jekyll Island’s specialness, and the many reasons that make Jekyll Harbor Marina a great stop along the coast, has been well-described here. I would like to add to it and make some corrections, however. SeaJay’s Waterfront Cafe and Pub is open year-round (not seasonally) seven days a week. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, the entertainment is live, acoustical guitar music. And yes, the Wharfratz still perform, getting better every year. The place can get busy, but the veranda’s stunning view at sunset can make the wait more pleasant. Also just south of Jekyll Harbor is Tidelands Nature Center, easy to reach with one of the marina’s courtesy bikes. A courtesy van (island use only) also helps meet provisioning needs and takes guests to golf courses. The local grocery has nearly everything a cruiser might require, fresh and otherwise. And the liquor store, bank and post office are conveniently nearby.

Enjoyed our stay at Jekyll Harbor Marina. Highly recommend a tour of the mostly restored Millionaire’s Club area. Ate lunch and dinner at the club house. Both were excellent. Lunch was fairly cheap, but dinner very expensive, but worth it in my estimation. Also there is the Georgia Marine Research center which has a hospital for turles. One was having an operation!!!

Jekyll Harbor Marina as always is a nice place to stop – $1.75 transient rate. But if you just buy a little fuel and perhaps have lunch at the delightful Caribe style restaurant, they’ll let you stay at the dock free for a couple of hours. Certainly an overnight stay is worthwhile if only to see the “Millionaires Club” where at one time (circa 1910) the Morgans, Rockefellers and Rothchilds formed the Federal Reserve. Now their less wealthy successors play croquet on the lawn – “keeping a stiff upper lip” as we Brits say.

Good stay on 10/27 – for the first time the tides didn’t seem to be as strong, we had to mess around some to figure out what it was doing, but not quite slack. SeaJays was an outstanding place to hang out for the night, even with almost nobody around!
Did not stay at Jekyll Harbor this year, but ate at SeaJay’s last year. I highly recommend the Brunswick Stew and Bourbon pecan pie.

Our next stop was Jekyll Harbor Marina (in 2008 and 2009). This is a small facility with friendly competent service. The restaurant is open only seasonally, but the food is fine and on Friday and Saturday nights they often have live music and it can be a long wait for service (a good sign, but frustrating). The store has very limited supplies.

We have been to Jeckyl a number of times in the last 5 years and stay at the Jeckyl Harbor Marina. Is always a great place to stay and do day trips from. SeaJays is not fancy but the food and entertainment is always exceptional. Do not know if they are still performing on occasions, but the WarfRats are great.
