Moss Marine has all new floating docks and is very nice. Their dock hands are extremely helpful. The one very important message is that Moss Marine monitor channel 14 on the VHF radio, so you need gas/fuel or dockage call Moss Marine on channel 14 not 16.

Very helpful staff. There is an air-conditioned boater’s lounge available to transients as well as permanent slip holders. The lounge has an extensive exchange library, and a television set. The air-conditioned showers are great. There are two washing machines and two dryers that were the hottest we encountered on our trip from Clearwater to Ft. Myers Beach. Both the showers and washer and dryers are all within the boaters lounge, so you can enjoy the lounge while waiting for your clothes to wash and dry.
We’re staying here now as mooring field is full. Marina facilities and people are very nice. A little difficult to enter when windy. Price was $2/foot with electric included, Steve McRoberts
If you are north of Ft Myers Beach heading south we wanted to let you know we found Moss Marine to be reasonably priced @ $1.25 per foot and close to the beach, restaurants, etc. Their fuel prices are $2.63 diesel and $2.67 gas (all taxes included) and if you stay overnight you can subtract another 10 cents per gallon, which brings their prices a little closer to fair market. Subject: Moss Marine-Ft Myers Beach Cruising News: I just wanted to tell anyone who needs amarina to stay at in Ft Myers Beach t consider Moss Marine. They bent over backwatds to help us with any and all requests. They allowed us access of their printer, copy machine and fax machine. We had a lot of paperwork to be taken care of. The casino boat does leave out of there but it is not an issue…it is not noisy. It was very convenient to all restaurants and the Ft Myers beach area. Their price was also more affordable than other marinas if you need a location to clean your boat, fill up with water and stay for the nite. Roberta Nunemaker
We’ve stopped into Moss Marine, Ft Myers Beach, Fl. . . . The dockage is very reasonable for this area at $1.25 @ft with a $2.50 @day flat electric. The harbor master, Blaine, is very accommodating and they have an excellent boaters’ lounge. It’s locked and the facilities include heads, showers, washers/dryers (1.25 for each), coffee maker, large screen TV, etc. A very nice facility with recycle for plastic bottles, aluminum cans, cardboard and paper. This marina is also the first you come to on the way in. There’s no AGLCA discount, but the prices are the lowest in Ft Myers and you can get a $0.10 @gal fuel discount if you stay at the marina. We currently have our trawler there for four months. We are home now and headed back down in a couple of weeks, but did stay on the boat there for several days before heading back home. It is a very busy marina with two restaurants with music until 9 or 10pm, boat rentals, a pirate boat, the Key West Express boat docked at the northern end of the marina, a rack storage facility, etc. We were at the Riviera Dunes Marina in Palmetto for 4 months with virtually no activity going on. I happen to like activity and don’t find it a problem. But, there is no easy access to a super market, etc. We have our car there as well so we can access such other needs. Salty Sam’s is on the mainland while Snook Bight is further south in Estero Bay and on the island. Pricing appears to be about the same at $15 per foot per month plus a small utility surcharge and metered electric. Tom Wemett

In Ft Myers Beach a great stop is Salty Sam’s-239-463-7333…..floating docks, fuel, wifi, fun restaurant with great food and entertainment at times. From the north proceed under the Mantanza’s bridge, turn to port and follow the channel past the shrimp boats to the marina. You can dinghy to 4 other restaurants from there, and there is a dinghy dock under the Mantanza’s bridge on the west side if you want to go to the beach. The Mooring Buoys are also reasonably priced and controlled by the Manatanza’s Inn Marina. You can reach them on VHF 16. Regards, Tom Jones m/v Marbles
Dear Cruising Writer, In response to your West Florida Wish List, I’d like to comment on an extremely satisfying experience I recently had at Salty Sam’s Marina. Our family decided to take advantage of some excellent Southwest Florida fall weather and boat to Parrot Key for lunch. As we approached the Marina and made our way under the Mantanzas Pass Bridge, the kids were having a great time looking at the large shrimp boats and various pleasure boats moving in and out of the busy channel. When we arrived at the new, state of the art, floating docks we were greeted by a courteous dock master. Our dining experience could not have been better. The restaurant had a nice crowd and our waitress was attentive and upbeat. The menu had a great selection of food items for the entire family and of course a great selection of cold beer for the grownups. If you want a great excuse to take the boat out for the day or weekend, Salty Sam’s Marina is a perfect family friendly destination. Tight Lines, Rob Ft. Myers
Subject: Ft, Myers Beach-Salty Sams Cruising News: If your visiting the Back Bay of Ft. Myers beach I would recommend trying Salty Sam’s Marina as a destination. The Back Bay is one of our favorite stops but we usually stay at one of the marinas on Estero Island for easy access to all the action and the beach. This past weekend we thought we would try Salty Sams and it was a great experience. The new concrete floating docks are long and much more user friendly than the fixed docks at the other marinas, expecially since the tide runs hard here. The dock staff is efficient and the adjacent Parrot Key Caribean Grill excellent. There is so much activity at this restaurant, the boat rentals and distant rack storage that is was enjoyable just people watching from our boat. If you’re there for a few days and want more variety of things to do all the island activity is a short walk over Matanzas Bridge. Greg Callaway
I highly agree with Greg’s assessment of Salty Sams Marina. I have had my holding tank pumped and their staff were very accommadating. By the way, be sure to visit Doc Ford’s Restaurant under the bridge where they do have plenty of place to tie up. Donn Brown Namaste

Sanibel Marina is like no other. It is family-owned and there is a lot of attention to detail, including great signage and beautiful flowers. This marina should be a definite stop in your SW Florida cruising adventures. Tom, the Harbor Master, doesn’t know a stranger, and he has a great team.
Gramma Dot’s is simply one of the best restaurants in the area. And, the food is consistently terrific. Take note, Gramma Dot’s is VERY BUSY (open for lunch and dinner) and reservations are not accepted. You must be seated by 8:00 for dinner or you will be heading elsewhere.
If you have a stand up paddle board or kayak, allow time to paddle around the canals and/or out into the bay. Billy’s Bike Rentals will deliver rental bikes upon request. The Ship’s Store has basics. A 1/2 mile walk to the east on Periwinkle will take you to Gepetto’s Beach Foodies for gourmet provisions and amzing pastries as well as to The Lighthouse Cafe for a great breakfast.
The marina staff is very friendly and helpful. Beware the channel going in which has a sand bar on the southwest side. There is plenty of water inside though the canal are tight for a sailboat. The rest rooms and showers are shared with the resteraunt so they are very crowed most of the day. Gamma Dot’s is pretty good though there are lots of eats on the island. I, personally, liked Trader’s Cafe. Bikes are extremely useful and available. The laudery is $2.00 for wash and dry(great) though the machine is next to Gramma’s. Overall, a pleasant stay.
We stayed for 2 nights here 11/12/11 & 11/13/11. This is a very well kept marina. It is fairly small with a limited number of transient slips. The staff was extremely accomodating and their ship store manager Tom is a great guy. Bike rentals are available but it is something you should set up in advance as the bikes are delivered to the marina by a local bike store. Gramma Dots has very good food and stays busy. There is little to do here at the marina itself and you are a ways from shopping so a bike is best. You can walk down to the south end of the island and see the lighthouse at about .5 mile each way (maybe a bit longer). Sanibel Island is a beautiful island but extremely busy in the winter season and is hard to access without transportation. The best part for me about this marina is that warm muffins delivered to your boat with a newspaper every morning! Great stuff! But again, there is little to do in the immediate area and you are a bit out of the way from the main area of the island. Coming prepared with your own bike/s is the best idea to really get around. The owner family of this marina has deep roots in ocean sailing (ie: America’s Cup, etc.). Mike
Spent three nights here in June. Coming from Stuart on the East Coast we wanted to stay close to one of the beaches. It is not easy to hoof it anywhere. Our slip mates broke out their dinghy and explored a great deal including the beach. All beach accesses require a 2 dollar per hour fee. They are dog friendly however. Gramma Dots restaurant at the marina was great but busy. We were part of the attraction as many patrons stopped to talk to us and snap photos. Each morning we were given a newspaper and warm blueberry muffins. The staff and esp dock master were some of the best. If you are looking for a quiet layover this is the place. Dale
Subject: Sanibel Marina Message: Last year we stayed at Sanibel Marina on our 44’ MY. Despite making reservations several weeks in advance and confirming that AM they had no space available until late in the afternoon and we had to stand off for quire awhile until the finally decided to put us at the west end of the fuel dock. The Frequent coming and going of fueling boats made this an undesirable location. There is a boat broker on site and that may have filled all the normal transient slips, I don’t know. There is no public transport on Sanibel so we walked many miles eventually arriving at Randy Whites restaurant which was fine then to the Ding Darling area then taxied back. Things are spread all over the island so getting about isn’t easy. Bikes will help but not much. Gramma Dots is OK but very busy and the entire Sanibel marina experience was not worth it, we wont be back. Bruce
Yes, great food – and the channel was dredged. You will bump on low tide if draw over 4 feet. The best water is starboard going into the marina and the dock master is terrific. Richard
Sanibel Island Marina – After spending a couple days on the hook we ducked into a marina to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas day. I cannot say enough about this marina as it has to be the one of the most well kept I have ever been to. Maybe it was just the fact that it was Christmas or it was just because it was Sanibel Island but, this is a great marina and certainly should be on your list of places to stop. Leave the Okeechobee Waterway/Caloosahatchee River at marker #92 and follow the marked channel into Glover Bight; break off to the northwest before reaching Tarpon Point Marina and follow canal through a LOCK for transient dockage (lock not required for the fuel dock) into Cape Harbour’s well sheltered dockage basin

This marina is, indeed, a gem for cruisers. My husband and I were looking for a spot with amenities where we could relax for week aboard our 47′ Sabre motor vessel. Cape Harbour grows on you each day. Transient dockage is along the sea wall. Therefore, you have plenty of water and privacy on one side. The foot traffic on the dock side is light, and friendly.
The pool is lightly used and cleaned each morning. There are four restaurants, including a coffee shop, in the marina village. Frank, the Harbour Master, is a great ambassador of this place. We also enjoyed this area for stand up paddling and touring the canals in our tender.
Note: Harbour Master’s office closes at 4:30, so call or radio ahead of arrival.
Clean, convenient showers, too. And, the 1-mile walk to Publix is a straight shot, and quite easy. Bicycle rentals are available in the marina village as an alternative.
The only disadvantage is the lock you must go through to get to the marina. We had to wait 40 minutes to get out of the marina when we were there last fall. James Angel

After talking with a number of long time Florida cruisers, I concluded this is the best kept secret on the West coast of Florida. Convenient, inexpensive dockage, low diesel prices, fun restaurants and shops right by the docks, and a very cooperative staff. Try it and you will like it. “I guarantee it.”

I live in a condo next to the marina and have a boat there. The marina is still mostly closed. The gas dock is fully operational, and a transient boat can dock on the G-dock across from the gas pumps for a few hours to visit the stores or restaurants. There is currently no overnight dockage. In fact, most boat owners have been told to remove their boats from the marina while repairs are underway. Of course, glover bight where the marina is located is a very protected and nice anchorage. It is anywhere from 12-3 feet deep depending on where you are in the bight. The bottom is mostly mud, so setting is ok, but not fantastic. Still, with it's protection, you don't need a really hard set. I'll update when the Marina is fully back in operation
Tarpon Point is one of our favorite marinas for many reasons. The location is beautiful and protected. Captains Candy and Ron in the Harbour Master’s office are friendly. There are two very good restaurants–Marker 92 in The Westin and Pincher’s–in the marina village. The shower facilities are very nice. And, the marina is immaculate.
Our favorite amenity is the recreation center–about a 4-minute walk–with two beautiful swimming pools! There is also a workout room and beautiful locker rooms with showers.
New this year: Marina Village Trading Co. which is a gourmet food store. Dee has a great selection for provisioning in style. And, Pincher’s restaurant has a fresh fish market!
We will continue to return to Tarpon Point when cruising SW Florida waters.
Overall, a very nice marina. There are tons of rules which mostly go unenforced. We used the hotel pool because it was closest. The pool for the marina was a goodly walk. We also ate at the hotel (good). One issue is there is no laundry and the bathroom/ showers may be a long walk, but would stay again. They did not say anything about Boat/US disount, but then I did not ask. The small deli is now closed so it is Publix 3.1 miles by bicycle. John Pholeric

We found this new, top rate marina convenient with shopping and a few restaurants on sight (Marker 92 was our choice) and for first time visitors who are BoatUS members the price is $1.50 per foot for the first night vs. their normal $2.00. Subject: Good Marina Cruising News: We just spent the night at the Tarpon Point Marina in Coral Gables, at the beginning of the Okechobee crossing from west to east. This is a first class marina with a professional staff and full ameneties. The approach to this marina is 8\’ plus at MLW, which is important to us as we draw 6\’ which excludes us from a number of marina\’s on the ICW on the west coast of Florida.
